Base for 12x8 Resin shed

In the north east USA, looking for the easiest enough base for a resin shed that I’m putting together.

My 2 thoughts currently are;

  1. gravel pad, framed with PT 4x4s. Nonwoven? Cloth and 3/4 clean gravel at least 3 in. And then put resin floor direct on that
  2. pavers. Nonwoven geotextile again, unsure what gravel to base there, and then 1in of sand before laying pavers. We have leftover polymeric sand to finish. For a shed that size is it better to do 12x12 pavers or something larger like 24s?

Thanks for your advice. Just want to plan out everything currently, and pick whatever’s easiest to do over the weekend.

Tree of heaven and lantern fly help

Abandoned private property by me has a massive 80ft+ tree of heaven right on his side of the property line. It is absolutely teeming with thousands of lantern flies, and the sap and shit is raining down into my yard and onto my corner shed and causing huge ant and big infestation problems.

What the hell can I do? I can’t poison and chop down the tree as it’s not my property. I’m happy to spray the tree down to kill all the foul bugs but can’t reach that high anyways. I don’t think the state authorities here care about either the tree or abandoned property, so I’m just at a loss at what to do. I’m going to sprinkle a shit ton of milkweed next season, but in the meantime I’m looking for advice.

Thanks!

Fantasy with Female dwarf leads?

Coming off a Hobbit reread and kick, looking for fantasy books that have dwarves as lead(s), preferably female dwarf warriors as I never see them. My overall preference is dark fantasy or grimdark but I’ll take anything that features fighting or adventuring dwarves, again with any FMC.

Thanks!

Support beam noticed crack

Help guys. Noticed this crack in our primary support beam. The middle one seems to have cracked but can’t see how far up. The outside one cracked at the eye as well.

Our inspector was amazing, he didn’t take any pictures of the beam or anything so unsure how long this was. I feel like I 1000% would have noticed it in our walk through 2mo ago, so I feel it’s new but can’t prove it.

I think I’m spooked enough to call a structural engineer next week to check it out. Based on how it looks, wanted to get feedback and if I should emergency jack it now instead of waiting.

Advice on color match and overall job

First time homeowner, we got our flat portion of our roof re-done. The guy came over, walked me through what to expect, and said they offered dozen options. I told him he’s the pro/expert, match it how closely you can and we’re set. I never received the color options, either via email or a pamphlet. He just flashed the options during that convo.

The contract comes in, I sign it. I didn’t even think to double check the color as I didn’t have a color list to compare to, and focused on the rest of the contract. Job comes, guys show up and it’s sub contracted so little to no chit chat, so I leave waters decide to go to work.

First 2 pics are old roof, then what they did. I gasped when I saw it and my wife is beyond furious. I called for clarity and the guy doubled down saying my roof isnt/wasnt grey, he claims it’s brown, and that what he chose is the correct match. I didn’t know how to proceed arguing colors so I moved on. the owner gets back to me and says the color will wear off over time and slowly match. He says it wasn’t odd to pick that color for our roof, hence no flags raised. He said he can come back in a month and take pictures to see if it fades, and offered to seal it in a darker silicone to make it match better at that time.

Now I know I legally signed the contract for that color being the idiot I am. Is there anything else I can do? Am I truly colorblind and that is the right choice? Is the colored sealant my best bet down the line, or is that a waste?

Thanks for the help. I’m not trying to screw anyone over, but I feel like I’m being extremely gaslit by them while also being legally on the hitch for it.

Philly Area Pine ID request

Have this large pine tree I was hoping to keep in our new yard, however I’m concerned it may be a toxic yew to our dog. Took shots of the bark, pines, and underside.

Thanks!

~1 foot space between retaining wall and sidewalk, what to do?

As title says. Unsure if it’s worth mulching and planting some flowers here, worried about the spill off as we have 4 retaining wall drains across the wall. Perhaps gravel or river rocks with small bushes, but is 1 foot enough? Any other ideas to make this look nicer?

Theres also some sort of plastic fishing netting underneath the soil, anyone know what that could be?

Dead vines in and out of ac drain, low siding

Previous owner apparently never went outside, the side of our 2 story house where the pipe for the ac from our attack goes down had a dead vine wrapped inside of it poking it. I’ve cleared out the bottom, cut the roots and killled everything. Is it worth ripping out the dead vines out of the pipe? I’m wary of damaging the wire and siding.

Same on the low siding, there’s dead vine stalks inside the siding, is it worth ripping that out? It seems imbedded in the foam/pieces underneath.

GFCI bathroom lightly buzzing when lights on, works fine though

As title says; noticed the GFCI is lightly buzzing when the bathroom light is on. Test works fine, reset it, all working but the buzz is worrying me. It stops buzzing when I turn off the light. Thoughts?

Replacing Google nest with ring

Replacing previous nest with ring wired doorbell gen 2. In pic attached, previous owner had the whole next puck connector within the doorbell housing. Do I need to replace all of this with the ring jumper or leave as is?

Help: new home owner and mice and other critters in attic

I’m looking for help. Wife and I just moved into an older home that was remodeled ~10 years back. 2dtory, Walk up attic making the third story, blown in piles of insulation surround the hvac. They added an extension to the back of the house with a flat roof.

We saw a mouse in the attic, exterminator confirmed mouse tunnels all through the insulation. Set up traps in basement (didn’t find any droppings but plenty of entry holes) and attic. Been 2 days, 0 bites. I know they’re there, should I begin sealing the basement and exterior siding with stainless shell wool and foam anyways? Or wait for some hits? Exterminator wants to try poison but I don’t want mouse corpses littering my wall.

As mentioned, attic is blow in insulation so I can’t seal any crack there without replacing the whole damn thing. It doesn’t smell, so I don’t want to, but I’m at a loss of preventing more.

NEXT big problem. Master is 2nd floor extension, right under the flat roof with no immediate attic access. We heard LOUD scuffling mid day across the ceiling. Then at night I stayed up all night hearing lil steps here and there, sounds of stuff dropping and rolling. What the hell can I do with this, given I don’t have any access to this part of the roof unless I remove all of the blown insulation to check and see if I can even access that part? I did a visual of the siding/ roof from the bottom and don’t see any holes, I’m going to ask a guy to go to the roof. But I’m at a loss at what to do, and if this is a squirrel or what?

Thanks so much for the help, I’m spiraling a bit as you can see. In New Jersey

Mortgage: how far stringing along separate bank and lenders

First time homeowner (NJ); finally signed with a 2mo closing. Our realtor recommended a local lender who’s been outstanding with explaining the process, getting us preapproved and finishing the underwriting super fast. Transparent on all costs as well. Issue is, he hasn’t locked us into a rate yet as he was hoping to match a 5.9 rate we saw. He’s truly one of the best local lenders and our realtor who’s incredible uses him as his go to, but understands business is business

I was separately mortgage shopping; most lenders wouldn’t lock with such a long closing but found a bank that did, and at 6% with minimal origination fees/extras, no points. We signed with them as a hedge (our broker recommended that).

Now we’re approaching the 30D window, and I’m unsure how to proceed. I’m going to reach out to our broker by end of week to get a sense of his thinking. However the bank we signed with is asking for full submission for underwriting and to then connect with our realtor.

Should I continue the process with the bank, and see how it plays out? Or do I need to make a decision now on who to go with? I’m essentially stringing them along as my safe option, and want to ensure I don’t overcommit/burn both bridges

Edit: we’re also already working with an attorney (through realtor and broker). If we go with a new lender, do they simply use ours?

[Unsouled] anyplace to get cheaper audiobooks?

As title says, anywhere to get the audiobooks cheaper or at a discount? I’m obsessed, but I’ve already used up my audible credits and can’t justify near 100$ for the remainder of the audiobooks, especially when they’re only 8-10hours each. And my library doesn’t have anything past unsouled :/

Thanks!

Spoilers up to Ghostwater…….

Damn they did RenFei dirty. I was hoping to see more of her, she seemed like such a cool character and POV with the gang. And even the hints that she may be more powerful than they thought since it was only her and Bai Rou guarding them all confidently. Goddamnit Will why’d you just cut her in half so nonchalantly

▲ 12 r/NJGuns

Originally got my FID and 2 pistols + those documents in NJ. Then I moved to a state that doesn’t require ANYTHING. Now I’m moving back… and I’m looking for a bit of guidance on what to expect and also how to handle owning pistols with my wife.

Moving back; do I need to reapply fully for my FID? do I need to list all the guns or just pistols I have? I’ll make sure they’re all Jersey legal, but unsure on how much work and how intrusive it’ll be.

Wife: I’ll ask her to get a fresh FID. I’m confused about pistols. Do I have to register each pistol (old and now when buying new) to a single individual? Does that mean she can’t use my night stand pistol for self defense on property?

I was going to also just call the towns police dept and ask some of these, but I wanted to get guidance before over sharing with the law lol
