I was already scared but now severe thunderstorms in forecast. Please talk me off the ledge!

I’m already a very scared/nervous flyer but tomorrow I’m taking my first international flight WITH MY KIDS and I was really hoping to be brave for them. We’re leaving at 6 pm out of Newark going to Zurich, and they’re calling for thunderstorms all evening. I really want to keep a brave face for my kids but I’m freaking out.
Please remind me that pilots won’t take off if it’s not safe, and that there must be some kind of sophisticated tracking system that lets them know it’s safe?? I need a mantra I can repeat to myself AND my kids 🙏 🙏 😭

Zurich airport to Luzern - how crowded are trains

I know this will vary depending on day, time, etc. We are visiting Luzern for the first time in late July, which I know is peak tourist season. We’re flying into Zurich Monday morning, and are planning to take the train immediately to Luzern. We will be 6 people with luggage, and I’m just wondering how crowded the trains will be? Do they ever get to the point where it is standing room only or sold out ? And if so, is it worthwhile to upgrade to first class?

I ask because I live in a city with very crowded public transit, and 6 people with luggage would never be able to get onto a peak rush-hour train (or would be standing at the very best case).

Thank you! 🙏

Low-performing employee sending emails in middle of night

I have one employee who is not performing well in both the “what” (deliverables, metrics) as well as the “how” (stakeholder feedback, peers don’t like him, etc). This is very well documented and I won’t go into all the issues because there are many. I’m working on a PIP but it takes forever in my company.

One issue (of many) that is relevant for this question is that he has the lowest output of anyone on my entire team. He only has one project that should only be about 75% of his time (really 30-40% for most people), and he still consistently just misses deliverables and doesn’t do things. He also shows up significantly later than everyone else and leaves significantly earlier, but this is not something I officially manage or mention because my entire team is salaried and we don’t have strict working hours. And the rest of us aren’t in the office long (no more than 8 hours).

With that background my question is this: He has a habit of sending out emails all hours of the night and weekend. They are never urgent, and usually they’re not even something I need to see. It reeks of “look how hard I’m working - I’m sending emails at 2 am” because he KNOWS he’s in trouble with performance. A couple times I’ve tried responding right away with questions, and he either doesn’t respond until much later the next day, or doesn’t respond at all. So I don’t think he’s even working, I think he’s just logging on, sending an email, and then logging off. This wouldn’t usually bother me, but coupled with his lack of performance it is an irritating behavior. Another team I manage is on-site 24/7 and OCCASIONALLY has off-shift emergencies so I do monitor my emails for that reason, and this just adds noise.

Would you mention this to him in a 1:1 and/or add it to the performance issues log? I’m cognizant of the fact that I’ve been dealing with his issues for a long time and my patience is next to zero, so I’m trying not to fall into the trap of being overly picky just because I’m annoyed.

Do you worry about grades in middle school?

My oldest kid was always a straight A student. She worked hard and got a scholarship to college and is now doing well there. We never really had to push her.. she just had an innate strong work ethic, and always loved school and learning in general.

My youngest is very different. She has diagnosed ADHD and a 502 plan, and while she is smart, she doesn’t like school and doesn’t study, and trying ti get her to read books js like pulling teeth. She HATES it. She’s in middle school now and is pulling mostly B’s, some A’s and usually one C.
Knowing she struggles so much with school, I’m constantly telling her that I’m super proud of her and in my mind, this is “good enough”. But I’m wondering if I should be pushing her more? She really doesn’t study at all because she’s so burned out by the time she gets home, and I just let it go. Should I be pushing her to try harder to get A’s?

I want her to enjoy childhood, but I also want to set her up for success in the future. What would you do?

My mom said “if she could go back and do it all over again she would only have 2 kids”

I’m her 4th kid.

But it’s ok, because she said “nothing personal” first 🫤🫤
(Since the post needs to be at least 100 characters long, I’ll add that she says ignorantly hurtful things like this all the time)

Some lower sagging - will filler help?

This is so incredibly awkward to post pictures of myself, but this sub always gives great advice so I’m going for it 😆
I’m 46 and reasonably happy with the upper half of my face, but the lower portion around my mouth is showing definite aging signs. I’m not really good at even describing what I don’t like, but those weird lines and divots near the corner of my mouth weren’t always there and they bug me. I think part of the issue is that I have a very narrow mouth (too many teeth pulled as a kid 😞)

Anyways I’m thinking of trying some upper lip filler to balance things out, but wondering if some of this is sagging that could be slightly helped by cheek or other filler also?

Other notes - I currently use tazarotene and the Jan Marini skin system for skincare, and I’m going to try microneedling next month for texture. My skin itself isn’t great but I’ve worked on it a lot and it’s way better than it used to be so I’m pretty happy. It’s just the jowls and skin sagging that are bothering me most. I’m 46 now and I do plan on getting a face lift in about 5 years.

Trip to Switzerland with kid afraid of gondolas/cable cars

Hello! As the title says, we’re taking a family trip to Switzerland in July - hotels and flights are booked. We’re spending a few days in Luzern, and a few days in Wengen as home bases.
We’d like to hit a couple of the more touristy peak attractions (Mt Pilatus, Rigi, Titlis, Jungfraujoch, or Grindelwald First), but it looks like all or most of them involve a cable car, and I’ve got one kid that has just now expressed a deep fear of them 🤦‍♀️

So my question is - which of the common peaks/destinations are accessible by train only? It looks like Jungfraujoch and Pilatus may fit that description but I wasn’t sure about others. Or alternatively, are there options where the cable cars are not as scary (i.e. large, spacious and not too high off the ground)? If I talk her into facing her fears, are there any that are extra scary that we should avoid?

I’m also googling pictures, videos, etc, but would love insight from anyone with first-hand experience.

I’m thinking of upgrading from my current base model Cayenne to a GTS in the next year. Other than the higher sticker price and increased gas cost, will I also be paying a lot more in maintenance? I just had to shell out a fortune for just my base model because I needed 40k mile service, 4 new tires, and brakes all at once and now I’m a bit more hesitant to take the GTS plunge.
And please don’t tell me I can do some of it myself - I’m not that kind of girl 😂
