Are there any surviving folk tales concerning the Proto Indo European invasions or migrations?

The PIE invasions (or migrations) seem to be a pretty profound historical chapter for enormous tracts of Eurasia. Yet, it seems as though there is very little oral or written stories regarding it. Have any survived? Or was the PIE displacement so comprehensive and complete that all was erased or highly modified to fit evolving PIE cultural norms and beliefs?

Question about Bill c-9

I am seeking a clarification concerning Bill C9 and the display of symbols identified in the Bill. If given Royal Assent would the bill define the mere display of these symbols as violating Section 319, or would the symbol have to be used in conjunction with a violation Section 319?

For example - if some bozo flew a swastika on his front lawn, would that in and of itself be a crime?

Question about paying back FTHB plan

I withdrew $17k from my RRSP to contribute to my down payment. I withdrew this amount in January 2025. From my understanding this would mean I need to start paying back the amount withdrawn in 2030 (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I have an old pension plan I deferred about 10 years ago and requested a termination package. I have the ability to transfer $8580.34 to an RRSP now.

Once I start paying back the amount I withdrew under the FTHB I will need to contribute $1133.33 every year for 15 years by my estimation ($17000/15).

My question is:

- If I contributed the $8580.34 now, could I, starting in 2030, just allocate $1133 per year from that amount within the RRSP, or would the repayment require new contributions per year?

I hope this makes sense, my apologies if it does not.

I feel like I inadvertently made the most Montana hat ever made

Live in Lethbridge. We have a real good view of Chief Mountain and Glacier NP. I just moved back to Lethbridge from BC and in my euphoria got this hat custom made. Just got it today... And realized this may actually be the most Montana hat ever made.

Does anyone outside of the prairies call purpose built earthen ponds "dugouts"?

I'm curious if this is just a prairie thing or not. What do you call these in your region?

Do any Americans call excavated earthen water reservoirs "dug outs"?

On the Canadian prairies, especially here in southern Alberta where it is semi-arid, we call small earthen reservoirs that collect spring runoff and summer precipitation "dug outs". The term is short for "dug out reservoir". They're used mostly for agricultural purposes, but at times can be used for domestic water purposes as well if the land owner has a proper purification system and lack of well water / county or municipal water supply.

Do any Americans call these things dug outs? Or is this a uniquely western Canadian term? What do you call these things?

What is the funniest German accent in your opinion?

I'm Canadian and have many friends from Newfoundland who have migrated to here in Alberta. We find their accents really funny. It got me thinking - I wonder if Germans have a region with an accent or dialect that the rest of the country think sounds humorous.

Just moved back to Alberta and fell in love with Castle Provincial Park all over again. So stoked to be back home.

Castle Provincial Park, Alberta, Canada

Only soul up here today. Either that or my singing to distract bears also detracted people. It's one of my favorite provincial parks in Alberta and a wonderful place for hiking.

Are hot water heaters commonly rented out where you are?

I'm in Alberta and I learned today that some people in Ontario rent their hot water heaters. I've never heard of that in my 40+ years. I can safely say I know absolutely no one that does that here, and I never even knew it was a thing.

Is this a thing in other parts of the country, is Alberta unique in that respect? Or is ON unique in that respect?

I'm Canadian. Hockey here is like soccer there. It's more of a religion than a sport. Given that I strongly believe ice hockey is the best sport ever devised by our species, I was wondering if this sacred game could potentially gain more fans in Italy? Do you think ice hockey will ever become nationally popular?
