Growth

I've been diagnosed with bipolar 1 for almost 3 years now, and I finally had a glimmer of growth today. One of my hypomania cues is that I buy a cleaning spray (random I know but it's happened every. Single. Time.). I realized it last night, and also noticed I went on a shopping spree yesterday. I also checked my handwriting and saw my hypomania writing.

So this morning I gave my husband my debit card, turned on my app blocker on my phone to block my shopping apps for the next week or so, and I started to take my relaxing teas before it gets worse

I'm just happy I noticed early and went into "lock down mode." It's shown so much growth for me and I'm really proud of myself. "Don't let a slip turn into a slide."

Hope you all have a good weekend ❤️

Snack cheese alternative?

Hi! I (31F) am not 100% vegan, but I'm trying to reduce my dairy and meat intake for health and environmental reasons. I usually pack my daughter nuts, fruits, veggies, something crunchy, and lastly, cheese, for snacks etc.

Do any parents of young children here have any suggestions on cheese replacement for snacks? Also, Id love to hear any other cheap snack ideas too! The less processed and cheaper the better, thank you! 🙏🙂

Considering OAD? Tubal removal?

(I also posted this on r/fencesitting bc I didn't know this sub existed)

Hi, I (31F) am debating about tubal litigation or not.

I have a 4 year old and I've had two miscarriages plus an ectopic pregnancy which led to a tube removal. I suffered from pp psychosis, ocd, and depression. Post partum with all my pregnancies were really really difficult to say the least.

I got diagnosed with bipolar 1, and I'm stable and medicated. I've been thinking a lot about whether or not to have a second child. Btw my husband is fully included in these conversations and he's also doubtful too. I just saw my OB for something different but asked about tube removal. Being around pregnant individuals and newborns in the waiting room caused me to start crying and gave me a lot of anxiety.

Am I being rash? Would this feeling go away? I look at an infant and while I think how cute they are, I also think "I'm good."

Anyone experience something like this? I always thought I'd have at least 3 kids, preferably 4.

Starting a no buy

Hi! I just turned 31, and my family and I are in a tough spot financially.

I've always tried to be a minimalist, but I struggle with mental health diagnosis that lead me to inconsistent moods and thought patterns (bipolar 1). Also, this diagnosis is known for blowing money like there's no tomorrow.

Anyway, I have two giant donation piles, and I realize just how much I actually buy. So, I. Going to start a no buy maybe... Month?

Here are my rules so far:

-fast food once a month (ideally id like never but let's be realistic, I'm a sucker for fries and chocolate shakes). Also, going to get coffee once a month (I have to have a tumbler and plan it in advanced. One to be more intentional, and two to create less waste).

-if I need to buy something I need to have it on a shopping app for 3 days. I have autism so I often do drive up pick up bc stores really stress me out. This includes hair products/ mascara when I run out, and any health stuff my daughter needs.

-sticking to library's of course

-meal planning with my husband and food prepping on Sundays. Only buying the food we need

- use my yarn before buying new to crochet

- create my gifts to others. I'm good with flower arrangements, making cards, and giving abundance from my farm.

- really try to stop scrolling... Not sure how to go about this

Anyway, I wanted to post so I can have some accountability :)

How to Water Garden?

Hi, I don't live off grid but I have a need I think my best be solved through off grid thinking.

I live on an acre, and I only have one water spigot at the front of my property at the well house. This makes it extremely hard to water plants.

We're building a backyard fence to section off our sheep and chickens, so we can finally have a garden.

But I don't really have a way to water it.

Would a gravity rain barrel system work? I also had a dream last night that I had a rain barrel with a solar pump on it that pumped water through a drip irrigation system. Is this even a thing?

Anyway, any advice is welcomed! Thank you!

Feeling reinspired

Hi everyone! I (30F) planted a few trees today and the plastic I found was saddening.

For one, one of the cedar trees I planted I rescued from my school. It has been growing under the play structure oddly, and so I took it out to plant it on my property. When I looked at the roots, I saw bits of plastic, even a button, on the roots.

When I used my auger to dig a hole, I ran into a miracle grow bag about 4 inches down.

I have been slacking a bit on my plastic consumption because, well, life. Seeing this made me sad, but it's rekindled the desire to reduce my plastic waste.

I'm sorry I don't have pictures, I didn't really think about it in the moment. But I wanted to vent a little bit

How do you course correct?

Hi, I (30f) have been trying to create a slow life for years now. Lately I've been in survival mode though: work, a young child, death in the family, pure exhaustion, and chronic mental health struggles (I have bipolar 1. I'm relatively stable and treated but it's still hard sometimes). These past weeks, even months, felt not so simple.

Anyway, I know I am just doing what I have to to get by at this stage in life, and I'm slowly trying to get back to slow and simple living. I guess what I'd like to hear about are different experiences, and how you got back on track. Any advice or anecdotes would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you ❤️

4th of July Fireworks?

I was talking to my cousin about bringing our girls to see a fireworks display. Where do people usually go? Are there any less crowded shows?

Thank you :)

Took a Walk Near Home

Took a walk near home with my nieces. We meandered a bit and found lots of birds, snails, mushrooms etc. we also wandered under an old pier and found a starfish stuck out in low tide so I threw him back in with his friends. We also got splashed by clams which was a lot of fun.

Just thankful for where I live, living close to family, and having safe outdoors nearby. It's all so lovely ❤️

Beebox location?

Hi, I'm new to beekeeping and bought a whole set for $50. I have a small farm and have been wanting to bee keep for years. I'm an educator so I have summers off and wanted to work on it during my break.

I wanted to ask advice on location? I have two spots in mind. One facing north/ south, not much surrounding it, but trees behind it on the Northside.

The other is closer to our animal shed, facing east/west, with the shed and trees on the north south side. It gets ample sun as there's nothing blocking the east side.

Which one would be best?

Thank you!

Ps, I know the hive is probably not set up correctly but I'll fix that when I get it's permanent location. And any blogs or books that are your favorite would be much appreciated! Thank you again!

Learned Solitaire

Finally learned how to play solitaire so I had something to do in a lull. I've been obsessed! Also happy that I can easily bring a deck of cards with me wherever I go.

I've also taught my almost 4yo daughter how to play garbage and slap jack. ❤️

Money is tight so I decided to challenge myself and learn a new skill. My daughter and I went around our property and my family's nextdoor to make these floral arrangements for an early mother's day with my family.

Its my first time, so it's not perfect by any means but I'm sure I'll get better as I practice. I'm feeling proud of them ❤️

u/walkingwillow16 — 2 months ago

Hi! I know this isn't edible foraging but I hope it fits. I challenged myself to make foraged floral arrangements for the first time, for an early mother's day gathering with my family.

We're on a tight budget so I thought I'd take the opportunity to learn a new skill and have some fun

My 3 yo daughter helped, and we went around our property and my family's next door. We're also gathering dandelions to make jelly while we're at it.

If you have any advice I'd love to hear it ❤️ but go easy, I'm sensitive 🥰

Ways to Used Up Carrots?

Hi guys! I have about 1 lb of carrots I need to use up. What are some ways I could use them up? Preferably someone I can batch cook and freeze for later. I also have an almost 4 year old if that helps anything.

Thank you!
