New Physics-based Combat Paradigm Showcased (Mouse and Keyboard)

This is a SLOW-MOTION CLIP (50% SPEED) | Technical Alpha Trailer Here

Moving the Mouse Cursor directly controls the sword. This is not VR

In this video, there are 0 animations. Its pure physical interaction and every collision is unique. You can re-direct your move at any time.

The Math
Rather than using standard vector math to apply physical forces to weapons, I'm using Aerospace Control Theory to simulate the sword's motion. The sword's stiffness is governed by a Multi-Modal Harmonic Oscillator, allowing the sword to vibrate at multiple natural frequencies simultaneously. This allows for very organic, tactile interactions that emulate the stiffness of materials.

This gets rid of the "dead", "damp" "sloshy" feeling of collisions in standard VR games, and altogether circumvents the "Drunken Puppet" feeling of non-VR physics-based combat games. Here, the elastic recoil makes the sword feel truly alive as it actively bites back into the opposing weapon. It feels incredibly snappy, fluid, and responsive. This brings us much closer to modelling how energy reverberates and dissipates through objects in video games.

I've written 3 blogs about the Technology and Design Philosophy of this game on the HyperMad interactive Blog.

The Magic:
I'm using Unity's built-in Physics but I'm only using AddForce() and AddTorque() to control the sword. My formulas simply tell Unity exactly when, where, and how much force to apply. I'm Using Unity as the engine and my Bloodfall Harmonic Resonance Model as the driver. The Math is so precise that it stabilizes the sword without adding drag, friction, or joints to stop the sword from overshooting. The sword is essentially a super advanced alien spacecraft that can fly better than any man-made object to date.

I never manually change the momentum, speed, or location, or use joints. Physics are always acting on the sword - not only during impact. I don't even use OnCollision callback when the weapons clash, as nothing specific happens in that moment. This is a continuous, non-abstract simulation.

From a gameplay perspective, this means PC gamers will finally experience Speed, Precision, and Physics in a single PC game. I can confidently say this is the Holy Grail of Melee combat.

The Technical Alpha is currently accepting play-testers on Steam. The game is called BLOODFALL (Recently Featured by IGN and viral on Twitter). You will be able to test the Physics and controls while progressing through a defensive gauntlet. Full combat System to be showcased in a subsequent official free demo on Steam, when its ready.

My Raccoon is polite, beautiful, and nice and she has a baby confirmed!

Follow up post! Shes'e not as scared of me anymore after I kept giving grapes in the mornings. I posted before about how she moved into this box to raise her babies. Look at the baby! Ps, this morning she and her babies left. Maybe because the weather is getting hotter they need a new spot? Or maybe the baby is now old enough that they just walked away??? How old doe the baby look? the baby is on her stomach. Anyways she is soooooo cute and beautiful and nice. Very good person

How to add an image to my games YouTube card?

When someone posts a video of my game, YouTube recognizes the game and adds this info card right below the description. But its a placeholder image. Other games have the actual games' cover art (Steam library Capsule i think). How to add it?

How to add Images to YouTubes auto Generated "Card" of my game?

I'm talking about the vertical image that's auto generated when YouTube recognizes which game a video is about, right below the video's description. Mine game is currently represented as a grey box, but some other games have an actual image

I'm working on a physics-based computer sim where you can fight with speed and precision using the Mouse & Keyboard. There are no pre-baked animations, so you can just move the weapon around by moving the mouse cursor. The idea is to make it as fluid and responsive as possible, so that you can feel like a true martial arts master once you get good. This isn't necessarily intended to re-create accurate fighting techniques of any specific time period, but its supposed feel detailed and responsive enough to allow for high speed reflexes. Now players can feel the vibration, tension, stiffness and elastic recoil of every impact. The idea is to move away from arbitrary rules or combos of standard computer games and closer to a system where you can intuitively express yourself, and focus on geometry/timing instead of memorizing combos. Would love to hear your thoughts and observations!

She's staring at the camera in a weird way isn't she? Its a bit unsettling. I have no issues so far with her living here. But what is going on here? Why is she staring back at the camera? Is she aware she is being recorded? Or checking for predators? I gave her 3 grapes this morning. She was in the box as usual during the day, but not sleeping. She spends all day in the box, like 16 hours a day. She only seems to leave at night for a few hours. Does she look pregnant? Does she look male or female? and how old?

Ok so theres a Racoon in a box in my backyard..... we found her yesterday evening, and she is still there today.... were not sure if she is just chilling there during the day, which is fine. we dont need the box so she can use it. However, we are wondering if she might be trapped in the box and unable to open it? should I leave the box open so she can get out?

Also does she look injured or sick or rabid? also how old does she look?

I thew her half an apple in case she was starving or something.... Were just confused what to do.

Please advise

EDIT: Ive opened the box and left it open. in case she was stuck and wanted to escape. but maybe im ruining her shade? confused
