Newly diagnosed

I went to a psychiatrist wanting a mood stabiliser bc when my SSRI works, its great, but i still have pretty bad dips in my mood. Came out with a surprise ADHD diagnosis. Honestly has never ever been on my radar.

I've seen psychiatrists in the past. All 3 were men, and all 3 were so dismissive. First one decided within 10 minutes i had bipolar disorder (my dad literally just died and was in a deep depression), put me on lithium and effexor straight up, didnt end well. Second one i saw a few times and then one day said to me "do you even want help? Why are you here if you dont want help?" Bro. I was in yet another deep depression, it was hard enough to get to that appointment. Third one I saw during my first pregnancy and seemed alright. Saw again during my second pregnancy and he offered an anti-anxiety med. I said no, id like another option because of the weight gain (huge trigger for both my anxiety and depression) he said if i dont that that exact medication then there is nothing else he can do. It was the only option offered to me.

So, I was hesitant to see another psychiatrist. My wonderful therapist said I need a mood stabiliser, desperately. My mood just slips so bad. So she recommended a female psychiatrist, so i thought id give it one more go.

And she was great. We talked through my history. She asked a lot of questions. At the end she said "I think you might have ADHD inattentive type". Huh, never even crossed my mind because i'm the laziest person i know.

She had a chat with my mum a couple of weeks later, had my base line bloods and ECG done and a script for Vyvanse.

Today is only day 2 on 20mg so I know its very early days but I actually have energy. Today is meant to be day 3 but I forgot to take it day 1 lmao. Anyway, yesterday at work, I got through the entire day and didnt feel like i was falling asleep at my desk by 10am. I didnt feel restless, like I had to get up and walk around every 2 minutes.

Today, i painted a room i have been meaning to paint for about 4 years.

I don't feel like im buzzing or manic or anything. And I know 2 doses of 20mg is nothing, and its probably a placebo at this point. But even if it is, its working and hoping it continues.

High titer, eveything else negative

33yo F. When i was 16/17 i had a burn that just wouldn't heal. One of the many blood tests they did was an ANA. Came back as 1:1280 speckled. DsDNA, RNA, ENA negative. Everything else, negative. No symptoms of anything except slow healing and takes a bit longer to get over viruses. Also have had a killer backache since I was about 12.

A couple of years later I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. I asked if that could be the reason for high ANA, he said not likely but let's test again anyway. Same titre, same pattern, everything else negative.

A few years later my back started playing up, same story. ANA 1:1280, speckled. Everything else negative. Saw a rheumatologist who basically said idk and diagnosed me with undifferentiated connective tissue disease.

This year, my back was hurting a lot again, GP testing for ankylosing spondylitis but that was negative. Rheumatic tests were negative.

I had my ANA retested this week and itll be very interesting to see what it comes back as. My guess is the same lmao.

I dont really have any symptoms. My fingers feel stiff at times, especially in winter. My back has been hurting for over 20 years. I still take a little longer to get over viruses but nothing significant.

Has anyone had anything similar? Can you tell me what happened?

Acrylic Splashback

Doing a budget kitchen reno, and looking at splashback options. Acrylic seems to be the best budget friendly. I really dont want to do tiles.

I was told today acrylic will burn, melt, warp behind a cook top. I'm certain we have an acrylic splashback at the moment and it hasnt warped or anything. Does that only apply to gas cooktops? We will have an electric oven and cook top

Syndesmotic disruption

I broke my fibula nearly 10 years ago. I tore the interosseous membrane but it wasnt picked up on for 6 months. I had the two screws between the two bones, which got removed 12-ish weeks later.

Ankle has never been the same. It clicks and feels uncomfortable. It also feels a lot weaker than the other one.

About 6 weeks ago, I started getting pain in my ankle again. In the front towards the fibula is where it hurts when its poked. Its swelling, although not massively.

I had an x-ray and ultrasound done. Ultrasound was normal except for some fluid and swelling. X-ray showed "syndesmotic marginal may be secondary to injury or chronic syndesmotic dysfunction"

Does this mean the interousseous membrane never healed (or I've re-injured it)? How would this be fixed? Ive been going to physiotherapy for 4 weeks and hasn't helped a whole lot

Pantry plans

We have a little nook in our kitchen we'd love to turn into a pantry as we don't currently have one. The area is 1730mm wide, the shorter wall is 960mm and we can go about 1800mm up the other wall. Any ideas?

Why do i get what feels like a pressure area on my heel?

33F, mildly obese (am working on it), otherwise healthy.

Every now and then i get what feels like a pressure sore/area on my heel. Sometimes it is just one heel, sometimes its both.

It never progresses past this red, slightly swollen spot. Its sore, like a bruise. Lasts about 1-5 days.

I am mobile, I walk a bit with my job (it is an office job but still walking around a bit there).

It has happened since I was a teen, so I dint think its is my shoes.

Also yes, my feet are dry af

Burning nearly 10 years after break?

Back in 2018, I broke my ankle and had a Weber C break. At first it was treated as a Weber B because no one bothered to do a CT scan. I had surgery 6 months later after a non-union.

I had my plate removed in 2021. Haven't had any issues with the ankle since

For the last week or so, ive noticed a burning pain though the end of my fibula during ankle aduction and when i walk putting the weight through my toes. I have never had this before. No recent injury. The pain feels deep like it is in the bone, not superficial like nerves. No swelling or discolouration. No tenderness

Has anyone else had this? Do I need to see someone about it or will it just go away?

Edit to add: i did need a bone graft during my ORIF but I cant remember if it was cadaver or artificial

It hasnt moved to my kidney has it?

Ive had pyelonephritis before. The crampy feeling in my flank feels very familiar.

I woke up on Tuesday with the usual painful wee and the bladder pain when it empties. Sheer luck got me into my GP on tuesday afternoon and started trimethoprim for 3 days.

Thursday my back started feeling crampy and the weeing hurt way more. I called my GP office because it was meant to be the last day of the abs so I wanted to know if I just kept going with it or need a different one. She said the abs should be working from the culture. She changed me to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid. Also said if I dont feel any better after 24h I need to go get IV abs

I felt much better yesterday. This morning ive had that cramping feeling come back. Feels the same as the last two times I had pyelonephritis, but not as intense. No fever (didnt have one last time either), doesnt hurt to wee any more, not even the intense cramping at the end. No blood. Still taking the abs.

Hoping the back pain is from kids sleeping in my bed last night and not another kidney infection but wanted to get opinions

Edit to add: i did a dipstick test at home this morning and it is still positive for leukocytes (70+) but neg for nitrates

Uh, thats your catheter.

I work in a hospital. I was on the old peoples ward and heard this conversation go down when a patient walked up to a nurse with his catheter in his hand.

Man: excuse me, what's this?

Nurse: uh. Thats your catheter. Did you pull it out?

Man: did i?

Nurse: it looks like you might have. Did that hurt?

Man: i guess we better put it back then

Nurse: no, we'll get a new one, we cant put this one back in

Man: oh, okay.

Regression/progression

I started potty training my 3yo at christmas time, he was 2.5. We went naked for a week and although he didn't get it right away, we made slow progress. Since mid-february we have had weeks where there are minimal accidents and then a few days or a week of frequent accidents.

He did really well although April, told us when he needed to go, asked for help, etc. But the last two weeks, it has been accidents every day. Refusing to use the toilet at home and at daycare. Poops in his undies within minutes of getting off the toilet.

He turns 3 in a few days. Nothing has changed at home and i'm not aware of any changes at daycare.

He has recently been to an OT for assessment due to behaviour concerns, and they have said he is a little delayed in fine motor skills, but I didnt think that would come into play too much if he was doing well with the toilet until now.

It is so hard not to revert back to nappies but he will pee right after he has sat on the toilet.

Sometimes he tells me his penis hurts and when I say let's go to the toilet, he says no and within a few minutes will wet his pants so I think it hurts because he needs to wee rather than a UTI - he hasnt had any symptoms of a UTI either.

Is it normal to have periods like this?

Also, we are in Australia so it is starting to cool down now as we come into winter. So I thought this might come into it, but he also will run around naked refusing to put pants on so 🤷‍♀️

I posted in AskDocs last night but didnt get any replies.

33 year old female, other than being overweight (which im working on) i'm healthy.

Yesterday I noticed I had a bit of an ache/crampy feeling in my ribs, didnt really think anything of it, it didnt hurt much it was just there. I went to the gym and did a short workout, still no pain.

On my way home, I got a sudden sharp pain in the area. It was coming and going but it was very sharp and probably an 8 or 9 out of 10, ive never felt anything like it before. Nothing I did helped it or made it worse, except breathing out did made it slightly more painful.

I took an NSAID and it helped a bit, it stopped the sharpness of the pain. It has been about 12 hours since the onset of the sharp pain, i'm still in pain but its not sharp any more and its constant, not waxing and waning.

- I have a bit of a head cold, just a blocked nose really. I'm short of breath but I think thats due to the cold.

- no injury to the area, no falls, nothing.

- i feel a little nauseous this morning.

- medications are an SSRI, IUD and estrogen.

The pain is just below the breast and over on the side a bit. Left side of the chest
