How to prepare toddler for the new baby?

My son is 17 months and understandably has zero understanding that I’m pregnant. Baby will be here around 2 weeks before he turns two.

How did y’all prep your toddler for their sibling? I was thinking of getting him a baby doll that he can practice holding and being gentle with and I’ve gotten him some big brother books that we read regularly.

Any other ideas? Things that worked for you?

I need to get a new doctor after this experience, right?

So I went in for my 8 week confirmation appointment two weeks ago and I can’t stop thinking about multiple things that happened.

This was all in Florida, for what it’s worth.

First, the intake nurse asked me a lot of very invasive questions about my sex life ONLY AFTER I said that my partner and I weren’t married. She wanted to know exactly how many sexual partners I’ve had in my life and when I was like “idk?” She looked me dead in my eyes and went “so more than 20?” EXCUSE ME??

Second, I have POTS which subsided almost completely during my first pregnancy but have come back during this one. I brought up having a 145 heart rate to the OBGYN and she said “oh that’s normal, pregnancy will have your heart rate be 100 at a minumum” yeah pretty sure that’s not true

Third, I made a comment about wanting to wait 18 months between pregnancies but I didn’t expect to get pregnant in our first month trying so it’s 15 months instead. I was talking about how it’s best to let your body heal for at least 18 months and she said “oh that’s not true. That’s just for c-sections, you can have vaginal babies as close together as you want”

So uh yeah I need a new doctor right cause this is insane???

Double stroller or wagon?

I have a 16 month who will be right around 23 months when his little sibling is born next year.

I’ve been looking and the mockingbird 3.0 and the Jeep wagon and I cannot decide which would be better. I’ve seen people modify the wagon so that one half is like a bassinet but it seems so big to take into stores, where the mockingbird is much slimmer.

I’d love to hear people’s experiences with either of these and what other people have done and what’s worked best for them because I genuinely cannot decide. Thanks!!

First trimester symptoms so much worse the second time around

Symptoms are so much worse this time than my first pregnancy

I had some mild morning sickness but otherwise I was mostly just tired during my first pregnancy but this time around I feel like I’m dying. I’m 6w4d today and I’ve been having severe nausea, acid reflux, aversions, smell sensitivity and exhaustion for the last 2 weeks.

I stopped taking my prenatals for the last 3 days because they were making the nausea worse (I’m going to try taking them at night instead and see if that helps) and I can barely eat anything which also isn’t helping. Tums aren’t working for the reflux, ginger makes me sick and I’m not sure what else to try at this point.

I’m basically just laying down constantly in my toddlers room while he plays because I can’t manage to do anything else. Anyone have any advice?

Also, my husband keeps joking it’s twins because he heard that darker tests and worse symptoms means twins 🫪

Cosleeping with a toddler and newborn?

I recently found out I’m pregnant with baby #2 and I’m SO excited but now that the initial excitement is starting to wear down I’m starting to think about logistics and idk what to do. I’ve bedshared with my 15 month old since the day he was born and I absolutely love it. I cannot sleep without him even though he can sleep just fine without me. He’s also still breastfeeding and I’m planning on continuing that even when my newborn is here if I’m able to.

Our current set up in our two bedroom apartment is one not at all baby proofed bedroom that my husband currently sleeps in and then our other room is a fully baby proofed toddler bedroom with a floor bed that has all of my sons toys and books and everything in that he and I both sleep in.

I know that he could go sleep with my husband but 1: I feel horrible making my son lose his bedroom and having me and the new baby sleep in it, I don’t want him feeling replaced or like the baby is taking things from him and 2: I don’t want to quit cosleeping with my toddler.

I feel like the best option is to baby proof the other bedroom as much as possible and have my husband sleep with our toddler in his room and me sleep with the new baby in the other bedroom for the first few months until we can all share a bed? Or could I just start out with the newborn in bed with my toddler and I?

Anyone have any ideas or advice?

Pregnant on the first try???

So I have a 15 month old and my husband and I wanted to have an 18 month or so gap between our kids. We started trying this month because I know it usually takes awhile and I’m going to be 33 this year. WELL IT HAPPENED THE FIRST CYCLE WE TRIED.

My due date is 2 weeks before my sons birthday 😂😭

Anyone else had this happen? Also any tips for 2 under 2 (barely) lol

When to start introducing toddler toilet?

I was able to get a little mini toddler toilet, the one that looks just like a small version of a normal toilet, on sale so I grabbed it. My son is newly 15 months so I’m not going to try actual potty training just yet but I wanted to start introducing the concept to him.

He is aware of when he pees and poops because he’ll come and get my attention and pull at his diaper until I ask “did you go potty?” and he wants his diaper changed.

What’s the best way to introduce it? I was thinking of just putting it right next to the toilet in his bathroom and when I get up to go to the bathroom in the morning setting him on his potty to start building that association?

Developmentally appropriate response to hitting/throwing for a 15 month old?

We regularly joke that our son is gonna be the next world famous MLB pitcher with how much of an arm he’s got on him and his weird accuracy aiming. However, he’s reaching the tantrum stage and has begun hitting and throwing things at us when upset.

It is HIGHLY triggering for me and I’m working on my own regulation when dealing with these situations, but I think what’s causing me to have to tap out and have my husband take over is that I don’t know the best way to handle it.

I used to teach kindergarten through third grade and I’ve dealt with hitting/throwing A LOT just not with children this small so I feel like the tool set that I have doesn’t apply.

Anyways, long story short. How do you handle anger, hitting and throwing with a 15 month old?
