How much doubt/questioning is normal in a relationship?
I (F23) have been with my gf (F23) for almost a year now. We love each other a lot, we have similar ideas for the future, I never saw myself in a serious relationship this young but since I met her things have progressed consistently and throughout I’ve continued to feel like I want to be with her and have a future together. When things come up we’re always able to hear each other out and work things out, we always come to the conclusion that we love each other and we’re going to communicate and put each other first.
Yet sometimes I have doubts that we’re entirely compatible, I’m guilty of comparing her (not to her face) to my friends who’ve known me a long time, which ofc we can’t control when we met. She talks less than I do and while I’m more extroverted, sometimes I feel that I have no idea how she feels about things, deeper things like our relationship. I don’t know if it’s my own trust issues because she’s very affectionate and I don’t doubt that she loves me or wants to be with me. But sometimes I’m like, is this really working?
How much doubt and confusion is normal in a healthy relationship? Are people in love always convinced it’s the right and perfect thing? I know love is compromise and not always perfect. But how much compromise/imperfection is okay, and when does it become, like, is this truly making me happy all the time?
TLDR: I don’t know how much doubt is normal in a relationship, especially when the relationship seems like it should feel good all the time.
