Worst planned season in a long time?
So you are telling me that the board that have been hired, solely to bring football back into the forefront of everything we do, have
Decided that despite our only striker being out with some freak ankle injury for all of preseason, that we don't need a backup and that 9.5 Zirkzee is enough.
Decided that Luke Shaw, despite his abysmal injury record will be enough depth at left back, with his backup, being a makeshift left winger. All because he had a miracle season last year where he remained fit.
Spent £50m on a backup DM, who clearly isn't part of the plans of Carrick (83 minutes so far in 6 games).
That money could have easily got us a decent (not top, like Hall) left back option or a backup striker.
It's almost like they didn't think they would end up getting Baleba, and maybe panicked after we lost to Hull.We decided to not fully back Carrick, when he was going to be expected to play in multiple competitions, multiple games a week, with an already thin squad.
After losing Casemiro, Ugarte (obviously not their fault), we have added just one player to our squad depth, with that being one of the 3 midfielders, our squad has grown by one player.
How exactly are we supposed to judge Carrick when he's been thrown under the bus by the board who have spent the last 9 months twiddling their thumbs.
We were told by Berrarda that we had "A clear plan" going into this window. That we would "remain flexible... not allow the market to dictate our spending".
How on earth is it seen as remaining flexible that, once we realised we weren't getting our left back target, that we just forget we ever needed one to begin with.
Where is this clear plan?
Revamping either the attack, midfield or defence each season?
Because so far we've,
revamped the defence under Ten Hag (Yoro, De Ligt, Mazraoui)
revamped the attack under Amorim (Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo)
revamped the midfield under Carrick (Tielemans, Santos, Baleba)
All those revamps where made to fit that managers style of play.
We came into this season with momentum, and we knew we would have to play 50+ games as opposed to 40 last year.
It is the negligence of the board and owners as to why this season is already a dumpster fire.
If Carrick does go, and it looks more probable than not week after week. The board need to go with, if not sooner.
