Can't believe I didn't realize it was exactly 40 years until seeing a post here just now! We put up our old 2022 episode on LRP on Youtube and found a ton of cool photos to go with it. Cheers.

Chatting Pepper at Liverpool Philharmonic Dining Rooms. What's YOUR most loved & least favourite on it? -The Quarrelmen

What’s your most loved and least favorite song on the Beatles' legendary eighth album, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band?! We travelled across the pond to the source to discuss the big one. While Adam and We Will Rank You host Jim were in England to see Blur play Wembley Stadium back in 2023, we arranged to record an episode up in Liverpool! Beatles City podcast hosts Laura Davis and Ellen Kirwin agreed to chat with us with almost no notice and the historic Philharmonic Dining Rooms let us reserve a beautiful, private room to record in. Paul McCartney famously surprised fans there for an episode of Carpool Karaoke but now the pub will TRULY be legendary! Because this was recorded long ago and researched while on holiday, it's different and less fact-filled than usual but still easily one of our most special episodes ever. Getting Laura and Ellen's fascinating backgrounds meant that there's not a single musical edit for the first half hour while we hear about their origins, their amazing Beatles audio oral history and Laura's uncle, Quarryman Rod Davis. Local musician and sound engineer Cal Williams (Hink Studio) set up a mobile recording studio for us and chimed in with his Pepper favorite too!  Listen now at QuarrelmenPod.com, Apple, Spotify, Youtube and Pepperland.

Best 80s Scottish album? What's your most loved/least fave on Lloyd Cole & the Commotions' Rattlesnakes? -We Will Rank You

What's your most favorite and least-loved songs on Lloyd Cole and the Commotions' debut classic Rattlesnakes? Mister Cole politely declined to rank his own record but you can hear him kindly chime in on our Highway 61 Revisited episode. Even better, we got Camera Obscura's Tracyanne Campbell to tell us her favorites along with Mike Remoll, the Cool Brother Hall of Famer that introduced Jim to the Commotions 40 years ago (stay tuned & listen post-credits!). Hear it at WeWillRankYouPod.com, Apple, Spotify, Youtube and on Charlotte Street.

Beastie Boys' unreleased holy grail "Jerry Lewis" imagined

THE TWO MAIN SAMPLES FROM PAUL'S BOUTIQUE OUTTAKE "THE JERRY LEWIS" PLUS GRANDPA GEEZER TELLING HIS WHOLE DAMN LIFE STORY!

Was curious what the Beach Boys' "Do It Again" would sound like mixed with Dino, Desi and Billy's "Baby Scratch My Back" (Martin & Lewis pun intended?) after hearing they were the main samples in the BBoys' most famous outtake, thanks for a 2014 Rolling Stone article. A little birdy played me an unmixed version and years later I thought maybe I could recreate it with zero DJ skills. Cool combo that sounds something straight outta Beck's Odelay. Meant to put it up online and.....old man forgot.

Last month, our grandkids Pollywog Crew asked me to step in and be Mike D for one show (July 31st at Garden Amp in Garden Grove, CA). They're pretty much the greatest Beastie simulators on earth besides Geezer. Sounds fun but I've been Adrock my whole life. I'm an actual Jewish Adam who used to DJ as DJ Adrock SD so yeah they're heroes. I've been rapping Horowitz's parts with Geezer for 15 years. Should be interesting being "Mike G" for the night. Shout out to my OG grandfather, Michael Gimbel! Come early or you won't get in, folks!!

Since I'm studying like crazy and obsessing on Beasties, I went through our old scrapbooks and photo albums and found some fun BBoy memories to look at while you listen to two minutes of this sick beat. Don't blink. It all comes fast and furious!!!
• Recreating the Gratitude video in Pompeii
• Wearing a Black Flag/Beach Boys shirt with the BBoys
• Getting a free shirt from Mike D himself and posting with his plumbing trucks (he loved seeing a truck of his in Check Your Head's photo collage)
• Cutest dog on earth in front of the most amazing welcome mat typo EVERRR
• and on and on.....on and on....on and on....

What's your most loved and least favorite song on Best of BGs (1969) -new We Will Rank You podcast

What's your most favorite and least-loved songs on this first collection of Bee Gees hits from 1969? Adam chose this childhood favorite from his parents' shelves, pulling one of the most annoying music snob cards: I prefer their earlier work. Sorry, disco fans. We're talking about the super sad orchestra classics from the Brothers Gibb. Australia's own Angie Hart from Frente! chimes in from down under with her favorites. Hear it at WeWillRankYouPod.com, Apple, Spotify, Youtube and Massachusetts (one place I have seen).

What's your most loved & least favorite song on Revolver? -new Quarrelmen

What’s your most loved and least favorite song on the seventh Beatles album, Revolver?! Grass Valley singing sensations the Moore Brothers join us with their psychedelic harmony expertise to talk on and on about the album some consider the finest ever made. The brothers met Adam during their brief time together in the incredible East Bay music world late last century before releasing a string of quiet, irresistibly off-kilter albums that have had critics reaching for their Ctrl + quirky + eccentric buttons for decades. The boys' stories literally never stop from getting Beatlesque with Joanna Newsom in Europe to meeting George Harrison himself. Surprise guest ranker and longtime musical brother Eric Shea chimes in via satellite. Listen now at QuarrelmenPod.com, Apple, Spotify, Youtube (tomorrow with photos) and float downstream.

Damnit, wish I'd used this sub looking for this mystery 80s musician!

D'oh! Found him after 18 years this week. Can't think of a group of folks that will appreciate the tale of finding him more than you! I might've even posted here awhile back after hearing about Ulterior Motives. I'd come back to searching every couple of years and searched for good subReddits to post the mystery photo just last week but it looks like, understandably, a lot of subs now prohibit it for privacy reasons. Anyways, enjoy!

UK's Hey Pixies singer weighs in on Doolittle with Pixies montage for We Will Rank You

Speaking of our recent Pixies episode, it’s up on Youtube at https://youtu.be/Sw-dKV85YDo with fun pics, including a couple of UK’s top Debasers, Hey Pixies. Stones N' Roses played our very first UK show with them and blew our minds. Singer Benedict McManus was kind enough to send us his thoughts on Doolittle! What are YOURS!?

“Ok ok. So…

My most/least favourite seems to change for me. So I’m going to give you two examples. One as a pixies fan. As a teenager growing up in Penrith in the early 90s. Hearing pixies for the first time and having my world forever changed. And then a version of me as the front man of Hey pixies and what it means to me playing them live.

1990 Ben

Favourite.
Here comes your man.
It was like listening to something from another world but written by the Beatles and played through Frank, Kim and the team. It’s open, raw and pure bubblegum melodies and flow. Up till that point I was deep in my Seattle sound with a bit of Mr Bungle thrown in. So this cut through and changed everything.

Least.
Silver.
I wasn’t ready for it then. It’s lynch’ian in its images it creates. I went on from here to consume mountains of Breeders, belly and throwing muses. But back then, I wasn’t ready. Now I adore that track.

Now…

Favourite
Crackity jones.
It’s got everything. 1min 20 something. Balls. Beef. Some Spanish (this is a guess) and barking. When playing live I get to be proper daft. Totally over the top and an explosion of energy. Plus the ending is the chefs kiss.

Least.
La la love you.
Again, I love it and it’s different. Plus I get to crooone. But normally by this time in the set, I have no moisture and therefore can’t wolf whistle. So there’s this whole embarrassing dad moment where I can’t whistle. The audience do their best, I xend up laughing and then try and regain any composure to sound like Johnny cash again.”

Check out Hey Pixies all over the UK this year!

MYSTERY 80s musician. PLEASE Help!

MYSTERY MAN PHOTO. With the sad passing of San Diego radio DJ Steve West, it got me thinking of our many interactions. I always meant to put this mystery out to the public. This photo comes from the collection of Dwight Arnold, who took TONS of fantastic backstage photos at 91X shows. That's him on the right and Steve in the middle. Who's on the left? Dwight is pretty sure that they were in the opening act at a show likely at the San Diego Sports Arena, date unknown but it had to be 1985-91 when Dwight was producing interviews though he thinks it's late 80s and a British man from an opening band at the San Diego Sports Arena. Steve thought it could be Keith Strickland from the B-52's NYE 1989 show I went to but Dwight says no.

CONFIRMED NOT TO BE HIM: Damon Albarn -Bluh, Michael Been (The Call), Jello Biafra , Phil Collins, Rob Dickinson (Catherine Wheel), Thomas Dolby, EMF singer, David Faulkner from Hoodoo Gurus, Gordon Gano (Violent Femmes) Bruce Hornsby, Kemp bros (Spandau ballet), Ed Kowalczyk from Live, David Loverling (Pixies), Dave Matthews, Andy McClusky (OMD), Mr Mister's Richard Page, Faith No More's Mike Patton, Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Simply Red singer, Sting, Curt Smith (TFF), James Taylor. Lots of horrible guesses not worth mentioning.
Ai says it's Mark Hollis (Talk Talk), Richard Butler (Psych Furs) and members of INXS. It is none of those.

The RBI subreddit that solved a mystery band photo for me a couple of years couldn't figure this one out so i'm trying some music subreddits. Any advice on other places to post?

Talking with Alex Maizel 20 years after being a Pixies video star n director

Highlights of my interview with early Youtube star/Pixies video director Alex Maizel weighing in from Vietnam about her "Hey" lipsync that led to her and her childhood friend Adi directing the band's "Ring The Bell" video for We Will Rank You's 50th episode. Listen to hear how two young Israeli girls became two of the first viral sensations airbanding Boston's finest. It was so fun that we decided to put up video for the first time ever.
