Hijab, but i wanna feel pretty

Hi guys! I'll be attending uni soon. And my mum has been encouraging (not forcing) me to wear my hijab. When i was younger i used to be an on and off. Then at the age of 16 i never wore back.

Im a haircare girly, and have dark blue hair. People always tell me how beautiful my hair is because i take care of if soo much.

I do wanna wear hijab. But im scared because i dont feel pretty in it.

Also, last year i did try wearing hijab. But my mom was lowkey telling me that the pashmina doesnt look good on me, and etc. So i was so pissed off and never wore it again as protest. Its so annoying.

So to my hijab girliesss, how to change the mindset? I wanna wear hijab, but after being told that pashmina doesnt look good on me and stuff. I feel really conscious. I genuinely want to wear, but i also wanna be pretty.

Ukm dresscode

Hi. I will be attending ukm next month. And i would like to ask regarding dress codes.

- Can we wear jeans to class?
Tbh, if cant, its not a problem because since my diploma days in uitm, i always wear skirts. But ive heard from some people that officially, jeans arent allowed?

- Can we wear knee length or below knee like mid length skirt (basically shorter than a full length skirt) to class?
I googled it said, its not allowed, however, i couldnt find the full dresscode description.

- Can we have colored hair?
My current hair color is very copper, and Im planning to re-dye my hair midnight purple. Since i'll be dying on top of bleached copper hair, the dark purple will show up. May i know if can we have colored hair?

Thank you soo much

Im losing my best friend

Funny story, so my bestest friend is a guy i met in a dating site. Haha yes. Not app. But site. I was influenced by my friends to did it, so thats where i met him. Obviously we met in a place for dating, so initially at one point i kind of liked him. But him, i dont really know. There's times i tried to make him notice me or signals i like him. But he would ignore. Even gaslit me saying like 'i never knew you liked me and stuff.' Even tho that text cam be searched in the chat. So i just realized at one point, we are much better as friends and have been friends for 3 years now.

But i dont know for some reason he always treats me like im one of his situationships or something. For example, he would ghost me out of nowhere, which just like any other friends i dont really care. Because as friends sometimes we leave conversations hanging or accidentally ghost. But it never mattered cause we'll still find each other back. Tho if i left his conversation hanging, he'd get mad. And say things like 'you left on read first.' And i was like bruh. We're not in a relationship where every single conversation starts with a 'hi' and ends with a 'bye.'

Throughout our friendship, we both have gotten with other people. He had a few girlfriends, while i did talked to some men but none of them ever become anything official. (Im quite picky in having a bf). My friend used to shun me for talking to guys or meeting them. Which was annoying cause i supported and respected every relationship he had been in. He gaslighted me with so much, to the point where i had to stand my ground and said things like 'i am your friend, not one of your girls. Stop treating me like one.' It became super uncomfortable because a lot of things regarding him is a red flag to me. From his political beliefs, his negative opinions on feminism, even mocked women.

A few days ago, he suddenly texted me and i replied as usual. At that night, we played roblox. Everything was going great. Until the next day he became weird back. He was mad that i unfollowed him from tiktok, and I unfollowed because i haven't spoken to him for over 3 months. So i was like 'okay, fine. I'll follow you back.' And until today that text was left hanging, and he never approved my request back. I dont know if this has anything to do, but prior to all this he once asked me to beg my dad into giving him an internship. My dad is a chairman for a company, so all of his friends are ceo's and directors. But obv i told him that's not possible, cause even my older sister is struggling to find a job after graduating from bachelor's degree cause my dad didnt want to use nepotism.

Tbh i hate how he treats me this way. I talked about it to my best friends and they said there's many reasons. Cause i even asked him why does he treat me this way? Im his friend. He was able to treat all his ex girlfriends kindly and sweetly. Even his other friends he treats nicely. But to me, he's so rude. Im so tired of this. If he doesn't like me as a person, just tell me.

Is there any way to salvage this friendship?

Does Extensive Reading Lead to Better Writing Skills?

I'm a graduate of diploma english language studies, and currently waiting for application results to continue in English language studies degree. I have a question that I have been dying to ask. To fellow aspiring sociolinguists (like me), linguists, grammarians, and etc. Is it true that to be a good writer, you have to consume fictional books?

Ever since school, I constantly get full marks on my essays. I publish a few critical pieces on medium, and letterboxd. I also have a portfolio of my writings to be used in my resume and cover letters once I graduate.

And one thing that Mum (who's an English teacher, aka in ELT industry) constantly tells me to read fictional books. She always tells me that reading books inspired her to become a teacher, and etc. But that's the thing. I dont want to be a teacher. My dream is to become a sociolinguist, or film critic.

And I write great critical pieces. So my mum constantly belittles me omregarding reading books does hurt me. Because I do read, I subscribe to The New York Times, i follow tons of other authors, i learn grammar, sociolinguistic, linguistic, academic writing, and so much more. And i manage to get A's and all.

So genuine question, does reading traditional literature arts, and creative writing is the best way to actually be a great critical writer?

Why is sue heck so hated? Any reasons?

When I first started watching on Netflix, i used to watch the clips on tiktok. And the comments are always people saying how they hate sue, and how the further the series, the more annoying she becomes.

Because watching it, I realized I really liked sue, not just as a character but also as a person. Sue heck is so kind, and polite to everyone. And of course, just like other characters, she does have a downside, which for sue i think is her childlike behavior and childlike innocence.

The hate really bothered me because sue was generally a good person. She's not just 'nice', she a real good person who's kind and polite to everyone. Despite how everyone acting like she never existed, and etc.

I need people to learn more from sue heck. Because as we become adults, we started to stop caring about other people, and stop treating people with politeness and kindness. I swear if sue was a real person, i would love to besties with her

Sean donahue

Omggg. I feel soo bad for sean donahue. Im on season 6, and im on the episode when sue doesnt have a date for her senior prom. It shows a scene where sean drove up back to orson for sue after his mother told him that sue doesnt have a date to prom.

I know there was a similar scene in season 5, but i didnt think much of it. And now it happening again, I DONT THINK SEAN DID IT JUST TO BE NICE TO SUE. He actually likes sue. No, not like. BUT HE LOVED SUEEEE SO MUCH. I didnt understand in season 5, why sean was quite pissed off when sue chose another guy to go to prom, instead of him, she chose some 4 other guys.

And i think about it, BROOO HE LOVED SUE SOO MUCH. And from the looks of it, he probably liked sue for such a long time. I just know how much pain he felt when darrin chose to pursue sue, and sue chose darrin. Even almost married him.

And now in season 6, he came back, driving 6 hours and all. THEN SUE CHOSE ANOTHER GUY AGAIN?!?! WHY DID SEAN HADDD TO COME LATER?!?! I was soo mad at sue when she turned him down.

Goshhh I know sean and sue end up together. (I mean, its an old show). But ive been craving for sean and sue's moments. Especially knowing that sean probably liked sue for sooo long and had to endure putting his friends, axl and darrin first. Like respecting axl as his best friemd, and seeing sue and darrin being lovey dovey together.

I just wish sean would be a little selfish regarding his love for sue. ESPECIALLY THAT SUE HAD A CRUSH ON HIM IN SEASON 1.

Trina and robbie's theatrical act

Am i crazy? But why does the show ans director of the play acted like the scene of trina vega and robbie's acting here is bad? I just rewatched it and it's actually good. Im pretty sure the teen actors weren't able to act as a terrible actor

I wonder why they didnt maintain the characters with the same characteristics as in the book?

For the people who haven't read the book franchise, what i mean is Chuck being gay, nate and serena end up together, eric as serena's older brother and end up with blair, vanessa being the edgy scene girl instead of the typical girl next door, vanessa and blair's friendship, and so much more.

The novel had the typical rich kid preppy style. But the series focused much more on their socialite lifestyles, and mature adult dramas.
