Creating a larger patio by overlaying pavers on a concrete pad?

Already have a crappy 8’x6’ or so concrete patio pad that was part of a spec house build. It’s snugged right up to a sliding glass patio door. I’d like to extend that “patio” out into the yard to make say, a 13’x13’ paver patio with pavers overlaying the existing concrete pad and transitioning smoothly out into the yard. Of course, the challenge is maintaining that “smooth transition” in the pavers between the edge of the pad and the non-overlay area.

The pad is graded to drain, and is also under an overhang roof meaning it gets little to no direct rain/snow. I would simply demo the pad, but one corner of it is the footing for a post that holds up the aforementioned overhang.

But still, I want to design in some safeguards to keep any runoff from water that manages to seep under the overlay pavers. What precautions should be designed in at the edge of the pad where water would runoff?

Or is this just a really bad idea to mix overlay and non-overlay pavers and expect them to remain relatively smooth?

Looking for a nice one page gameplay description for beginners?

I'd like a printout/graphic to leave with the boards that mostly just describes gameplay and scoring. I searched a bit for this with limited success... for example you don't need a quarter of the page describing that boards must be 27 feet apart.

Undermount, Bottommount sliders with detachment?

Excuse please, my slight confusion over the terms "undermount", "bottom mount", and "basemount".

I'm having a problem finding drawer/shelf sliders to this specification:

  • Mounts to the bottom of the cabinet (not the sides).
  • Mounts to the bottom of the drawer with a detachable mechanism such that the drawer/shelf can be easily removed/reattached.
  • 12 to 13 inches long closed.

This will be for a small slide out shelf (say 13" x 13") that sits below the kitchen sink. Which is why it cannot attach to the cabinet sides, although if absolutely necessary I could add a false side strip of wood.

I found an undercount slider from Vedania but it requires the rails be permanently attached/screwed to both drawer/shelf and cabinet. Which makes installation in the bottom of sink cabinet so near the floor problematic. Besides I like the idea of being able to remove the shelf for cleaning underneath if necessary.

TIA.

Half-frame bag for road riding?

Caught glimpse of a roadie with a minimalist half-frame bag that looked road-specific as opposed to chunkier bikepacking gear. For example it had stiffened sides presumably to keep it sleek and slim.

Any recommendations for such a bag?

What are options for cat proof and moderately secure windows in the USA?

Living in a very moderate climate, our windows are cracked open pretty year round. We have indoor cats that need to stay indoors. I'm not comfortable with the idea pet-resistant screens which simply pop-in place. Currently have horizontal sliding windows that can lock-in cracked with about a +2" crack.

Was thinking about normal windows that would stay shut with additional smallish transom windows up high enough that the cats simply could not reach them. Would be happy to hear what others have come up with?

Some here rightfully fret about this sub becoming just about posting quotes...

... but during my rewatch after many years, a couple have really stood out... I'm not sure why? 🤷

"The bigger the lie, the more they believe."

"Woe to them that call evil good and good evil."

Guess it's just me.

Weapons of The Wire

Random observations:

First, the best show ever… and on each rewatch reveals more… ergo this post… I love this show, but also, maybe too much time on my hands…

I think early on, Omar is using a double barrel shotgun? But he is coming up on his first victims in season 1, I can swear, though the weapon is hidden… it makes the distinctive cocking sound of a pump shotgun. Or maybe I am full of shit, certainly a possibility.

When Omar has his standoff with Brother Mouzone, both with weapons drawn and discussing each other’s hardware not too dissimilar to Montgomery Cliff and John Ireland’s homo-erotic chat in the western classic movie “Rio Grande”. Bro Mo mentions he is using a Walther PPK. Now, being James Bond’s preferred sidearm, one wouldn’t think there would be much need to say much about such a legendary firearm. Anyway, Bro Mo goes on to point out it is a “double action”. Presumably he is letting Omar know that he doesn’t need to cock it before firing? (But maybe this is where Omar says “I keep one in the chamber” and the response from Bro Mo is completely in context?

When, McNulty leans over the guy that Prez shot in the dark and says “it’s a Glock”… now realizing this is the first clue that Prez shot a police.

Any more weapon fun facts to know and/or puzzle over?

Why weren’t the nails flush with the plywood?

Looks like there is a small collar just under the head of the nail keeping it from driving in flush to the plywood? Or is this technically a fastener… so what is the difference between a fastener and a nail, and what applications would not matter if the head was flush?

Come to think of it, seems like some traditional concrete nails might have what looks like a second “head” just below the top head.

Mushroom Propane Patio Heater and Thermocople replacement access?

Have a basic patio mushroom style heater that the thermocouple seems to have failed on.

I’ve see other of these style heaters that have an access panel of sorts, looks like a cheese wedge, on the backside, just opposite of the front panel controls. Does this access make replacing the thermocouple easier?
