Thrifting third
My job gave us the day off on the third since the holiday was on a Saturday. So I stopped by a few thrifts on my way to get groceries. Picked up a couple, and found a bonus third (the tiny vase at the end).

Had some time to kill before Pathfinder session today. So I stopped by a couple thrifts. Found this comal for $6. Into the lye tank!
I had a chance to hit the thrifts today. Nothing came home, but it was nice wandering around and meeting all these fine felines.
From this past weekend. I didn't bring anything home this time. Kitty in the last pic must be shy.
I was just trying to make the bed. Billy decided I wasn't doing something correct. So he had to jump in and correct my technique.
Got a reply.
The Valley Regional DEQ office received and investigated a fish kill on Black’s Creek. This is the synopsis and status:
“This fishkill was reported to DEQ-VRO by the City of Harrisonburg on Friday evening. After further investigation by VRO’s PREP program, it was determined that a powder form of “Snake Stopper” was generously applied around a small, Rockingham County-owned building that is surrounded by a streamside gravel parking lot. The application occurred just before a brief rainburst, which washed it into Blacks Run, and immediately killed 400-500 fish, the median length of which was about 3”. A clean-up contractor has been procured and paid for by the City of Harrisonburg and vacuum work is continuing through Monday. The active ingredient in the “Snake Stopper” is still TBD. VRO PREP and the City have been in touch with the Rockingham County public works staff and judicial department (who work out of the building and requested the treatment). As of Saturday morning, there were live fish in Blacks Run in other places and the impacted reach appears localized.”
I was working today, and wound up along Black's Run near the parking deck. While waiting for a co-worker, I noticed the intense algae buildup. Then I noticed all the dead fish. Has something gone wrong? Or is this normal summer behavior in the Run?
I passed on the first one, but I'm a sucker for a good book-end. Especially when he looks like an arcane investigator in some ancient library searching for forgotten knowledge.
All cleaned up. 3 rounds of grapeseed oil. Ready to go. I love the swirls in this one.
Had a few minutes to kill on the way home from work and was gonna pass right by a local thrift. Only cat I saw this time. Catch and release.
The flounder was flavored with Mrs Dash lemon pepper seasoning. The sweet potatoes were pan fried in a bit of butter, salt, and black pepper. Diced onions and jalapeno added toward the end. The green beans were just from a can, with a bit of added jarlic.
Our saleswoman where I work was out thrifting this weekend. She knows I like restoring old cast iron. Apparently she was able to grab this little skillet for only $1. Can't wait to see it all cleaned up.
Brought home the last 2 pics. The cougar (panther, mtn lion) needs a better fitting frame. I almost got the Amish kids with cats, but decided against it.
Swung through a couple thrift stores today. In the last one, found this thing just hanging there. It seems to be the earlier version Lodge released. I have the newer (rough) skillet in 10". It's losing it's coat of nasty right now, but I'll post an update once it's done. So far, it's definitely thicker and heavier the my M&S in the same size. It's smooth under the crud, not like the newer version. And the handle is longer. No warping that I can tell so far.
I was headed to my local game store to see a couple friends. Since I had a little time to kill I stopped at Goodwill. When I walked in, I noticed a thick stack of 45s. I wasn't gonna bother at first. Decided to take a look. First thing I find is Culture Club in the sleeve. OK, going through the whole stack. Last one is Patti Smith Group. Ended up with about 30 singles for $0.10 each. They all need a good cleaning.
