Why are their disturbing songs so catchy?

Spiel mit mir has a lovely melody and rhythm. The lyrics, though...

Did anyone else think Angst was a racist song when they first heard it?

Since "alle haben Angst vorm schwarzen Mann" means "everyone is scared of the black man", I was horrified when I first heard it.

Then I looked up the song, and apparently the "schwarzen Mann" refers to a Boogeyman figure rather than a literal black man. Which makes them singing about things like nightmares make a lot more sense in hindsight.

Did anyone else have this horrible misunderstanding? 😂

Do any of you have tips for remembering the gender of words that actually work?

I'm late B1/early B2. But I'm still constantly using the wrong articles for words. I mean, how does one remember the genders of thousands of nouns?

This has probably been asked before, but does anyone have tips?

Edit: I know there are some rules, like words ending in o are generally das, and words ending in -ion or -ung are generally die. But, what about the ones that don't have clear rules? Just the fact that Gabel, Löffel and Messer all have different articles drives me crazy.

Have any of you had your arm go numb?

I donated for the 11th time last week, and when they stuck the needle in, I lost both feeling and movement in my arm for about 10 seconds, and then it slowly came back. It's never happened to me before, and it was quite bizarre. Has anyone else experienced this?

Has anybody here been in an abusive friendship?

You don't often see abusive friendships talked about. I was in one for seven years, left it seven years ago, and it still affects me.

This scene has Dan written all over it

It's really weird watching this scene as an adult, especially with what we know about Dan Schneider now.

Do American high school kids really make out in the school hallways?

I see this so much in American shows and movies. I'm a South African, and generally in high school, any romantic physical contact between students is not allowed on school grounds. Students absolutely sneak off to secret locations to make out, but they'd never dare do it openly. So... is that a real thing in the US? If so, I find that wild.

Do you guys think characters like Crazy Steve and André's grandma would be considered politically correct today?

If Drake and Josh and Victorious aired today, would those characters be included? Yes, they were very entertaining... but also clearly had mental health issues.

I love how you can clearly see Allison Scagliotti wants to laugh and clearly hear Jerry Trainor wants to laugh

I do not remember the scene in Victori-Yes where the girl asked André to smell her foot

Dan was not subtle at all, was he?
