In a sharing mood. “Rover’s Return” Uncle Tony - Chef’s Night Out. Signed at the Hunger Tour Denver, CO, November 18, 2016, at the Bellco Theatre.
Published pre KC in 1998. You can see the making of KC. Highly recommend for anybody wanting to read his earlier stuff. I told Uncle Tony it was one of my favorites. He signed it with a big smile.
Anthony Bourdain — more needed today than ever, no?
June 8 is not going to be a good day this year.
Hasn't been, to be honest, since June 8, 2018 — but this one is going to seem particularly bittersweet. Emphasis on the bitter.
Tony, the world needs you! Now more than ever.
Going tonight a candle that day. Somehow, I get the feeling I won't be alone.
I met Irvine Welsh today, and he signed me the introduction of Kitchen Confidential 🙂
What a great guy btw :’)
Why haven't I heard of this? No Reservations CHANNEL on Amazon Prime. Bourdain all day.
You're welcome if you haven't heard of this.
If you have heard of this, I'm angry with you for not sharing. 😂 🔪
Less and less Bourdain restaurants still open
One thing that is heartbreakingly real: the longer Tony is gone, the fewer restaurants there are left that he visited and/or recommended.
I live in NYC, so there are still a few. But that list is shrinking. Many have closed. And for the ones that have remained open, the name of the restaurant is the same but the chef and food have drastically changed.
I walk past the former Les Halles quite a bit. Restaurants have routinely opened then closed at that location. Chez Francis was actually pretty good but it's gone now, too. And watching that location struggle to keep its doors open - a place that used to hold so much energy and promise - is sad.
This is normal with the passing of time, I know.
But it reminds me how much I miss the world with Tony in it.
Whoever suggested I watch Big Night - thank you
I watched Bourdain’s Parts Unknown Sicily episode then put it on after. I’m obsessed.
J’s Oyster
In Portland for the weekend, had to stop by J’s Oyster
Anyone going Saturday?
Cool Bourdain-themed event happening in New Jersey Saturday. Anyone going?
Pomme Pavé
Not from the Les Halles cookbook, but I made Pomme Pavé
He Would Not Have Wanted This
Hi! big time Anthony Bourdain fan here since forever- Food service background, ne'er-do-well, world traveler inspired by Tony.
He just would not have liked this. I hate this so much.
Help me select the most exemplary episodes of Parts Unknown
Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time posting.
I am working on an academic piece that uses Parts Unknown as a case study. Specifically, it examines the kind of travel practices the show advocates for, its philosophy of travel.
I have been a long time fan of Bourdain so I’ve watched quite a few (around 30) episodes of PU. However I’m struggling with decision paralysis when it comes to selecting which episodes are the most exemplary of Bourdain’s and the show’s attitude towards travel. My text will focus on how language frames this attitude (through his interviews and narration), but also how visual and auditory techniques mediate Bourdain’s encounters.
Which episodes for you showcase his approach towards travel the best?
At Cafe Tingis in Tangier
This was my favorite episode in Parts Unknown. It was so surreal to actually be here
Cheers Chef. I miss you.
Tony was always visceral in real time. But now looking back… I feel his comments were guarded. I really want to know his thoughts leading up to his death. When ever I find myself drinking too much and depressed… I watch one of his series. It immediately picks me up. I really wish we as fans picked him up too.
His Affect
Anthony made me want to travel and see places I never thought about visiting. He made me want to try food I didn't even know existed. He made me look at people in a way I never had before.
He changed my view of the world, and I feel like he made me a better person, and I am grateful for that.
Help settle a marital argument: would Anthony bourdain enjoy/like pasta salad? (Pasta, peppers, olives, deli meat etc.)
Context she thinks it’s below his tastes and I think a burger and pasta salad paired with a cigaret and cold beer is right up Anthony’s tastes.
Paris with his eyes
“The vacation gone wrong in Paris is almost always because people try to do too many things. Most of us are lucky to see Paris once in a lifetime. Please, make the most of it by doing as little as possible. Walk a little. Get lost a bit. Eat. Catch a breakfast buzz. Have a nap. Try and have sex if you can, just not with a mime. Eat again. Lounge around drinking coffee. Maybe read a book. Drink some wine. Eat. Repeat. See? It's easy.”
