Help with paint color for vintage bathroom :) 💙

We just bought a super cute 1950s home in the PNW, planning on decorating more scandi 70s with lots of wood furniture and warm browns.

But I'm at a loss at what to do with this bathroom. We're not going to remove the tile, fixtures, vanity, etc (yet). Any ideas on wall colors or what color to paint the vanity or even peel and stick floors? What shower curtain? There will also be a rich walnut mirrored cabinet between the windows. Please help :)

Before/After Double Bathroom and Bedroom Remodel

We just wrapped up the bulk of a massive renovation project across two bathrooms, and are beyond impressed with how it all turned out.

Master Bedroom Ensuite + Closets

We took out the closet entirely, gutted the bathroom to rearrange the plumbing to give us an additional shower. We rebuilt the load bearing wall on the right side of this bathroom to accommodate a flush mounted medicine cabinet that fills the bulk of the wall - giving us loads of storage, and making the room feel much larger.

As the back and left walls of the ensuite are both exterior walls, and we wanted to add plumbing controls, I had the idea to do a 45° corner piece to mount the controls. It actually makes the operation of the controls from outside of the shower much more comfortable before you step in, and flows to match the width of the slab we had selected.

The closet here was very interesting. We removed that little entryway to the ensuite and extended the bathroom to be in line with the closets, and then hid the access to the ensuite behind what appears to be another closet door. We have several hidden doors inside our home, so this felt very on-brand. We optimized the closet storage compared to the older mirrored bifold doors, and ended up with more usable closet space in a smaller footprint - and giving us a much larger bathroom to boot.

Main Bathroom

This renovation was much more straightforward. We replaced the vanity with custom cabinetry in a really nice walnut veneer, and optimized the storage to give us a linen closet (which we did not previously have). These cabinets have the same wood and quartz as the ones in the ensuite to help maintain continuity throughout the house.

We tore out the old shower and added a bathtub, with a little ledge-mounted tub filler that was a bit unconventional, but very functional and comfortable to use. The ledge is made from the same quartz as the countertops in both bathrooms.

Bathroom Decor HELP‼️

Which of these bathroom aesthetics would be the best? This is for a small one person dorm bathroom! I wanted to pick an aesthetic and stick with it for the bathroom! Also you can suggest other options!

Is this odd looking?

I like the little nod to Portugal in the tiles, but not sure what this space is missing or if this is just a completely bad idea

Edit: this is an AI generated image (I know, I know.) the actual sconces look different in person, though the placement is where they’re at in real life. The previous homeowners put them above the mirrors. I do intend to move them down to eye level.

Unfortunately I’m unable to edit this post and add an image of the current set up, and it won’t let me in add it in the comments either.

I’m on a budget, so I’m constrained to the current plumbing set up with the faucets in the wall, hence the vessel sinks. I don’t really have a choice in that matter currently.

The wall is currently all white subway tile, and I’m unable to find a tile match to fill in some gaps after tearing part of the wall to fix the current plumbing. My intention now is to just change the tile up to something else. Thank you everyone for the feedback, it is very much appreciated

Design challenge: Squeezing the most out of this small bathroom for 2

Hi everyone,

My gf and I moved into together, and its the first time i’ve lived with a significant other. I’m a bit anxious about the bathroom and making sure its layed out well and useable for both of us.

Ideas I have that i think will be useful so far are:

  1. We can store bulk items (like extra toilet paper) in a different utility closest.
  2. I think a good over-toilet storage option will go a long way for more cabinet space
  3. I intend to install a bidet.

Puzzles I want to figure out are:

  1. We only have one oddly placed wall outlet and limited counter space.
  2. My partner really wants a towel heater
  3. I think the under sink cabinet could be organized to be more accessible, but its a bit hard for me to access that space.

We rent, so we can’t cut holes for hiding power cords, but we can hang shelves.

Please, i’d be very grateful for yours ideas or products recommendations to maximize the utility of the space .

Original 1950s Pink Bathroom — Keep It or Remodel It?

Walked into this 1950s home and found what appears to be an incredibly well-preserved original pink bathroom.

From what I’ve learned, pink was actually America’s most popular bathroom color in the 1950s, and the black trim was considered a high-end design feature. This one still has the original wall tile, black borders, hex tile floor, built-in soap dish, and tiled countertop.
I know these bathrooms have become surprisingly collectible, but they’re definitely not everyone’s style.
If this were your house…

Keep it?
Remodel it?

I’d love to hear what you’d do—and why.

What bathroom item ended up being way more important than you expected?

I used to think the big things made the biggest difference in a bathroom, but after updating mine, I realized it was actually the smaller details that changed how the room felt day to day.

For me, it wasn't the vanity or the paint it was things like better lighting, replacing old accessories, and switching to a bath rug from Amoami. None of those changes were expensive, but together they made the bathroom feel much more comfortable and finished.

What's one small change that made your bathroom noticeably more comfortable or functional? I'm curious what other people ended up appreciating more than they expected.

How to redecorate this guest bathroom?

Still trying to find a decorating style, what are some easy ways to make this bathroom look less sad? Not sure if I want to go for a colorful look? A clean look? I’m at a loss. Any idea is appreciated!

What can I do to the walls to make this small bathroom feel more cozy/tied-together instead of "out-of-the-box-bathroom-kit"?

Owner; lived here for years and getting really tired of feeling like I still live in a college apartment that I'm going to move out of every spring. Slowly working my way through my unit trying to pull it together, and I'm stumped for what to do with the bathroom because of the colors and limited wall space. (I will not be undertaking replacing the vanity, tiles, or mirror, I sadly don't have that kind of time right now).

First two photos are the view of the bathroom from the bathtub using all lights and then just my mirror lights (warm dim bulbrite 3000K - 1800K 500 lumens). Everything feels too peachy/yellow, so I want to spruce up the walls. The third photo is the view from my kitchen; door is almost always open because of cats needing access to litter box.

  • I really like the idea of going dark and doing a really large floral wall mural, examples from Graham & Brown attached, but a) this is a daily use bathroom, and I'm worried about any wall murals causing mold or peeling; b) every wall has a giant cut-out either for the doors or for the mirror, which is an exceptional waste of $$ to buy a wall mural and then throw out half of it (bc it's not a repeating pattern like standard wall paper). The few designs I did like don't come in vinyl (hence the mold/peeling issue).
  • I really don't like the repeat pattern of wallpaper. It triggers something primal in my soul that I can't put my finger on. Also, again, worried about mold and peeling.
  • I thought about painting a dark color and then trying to stencil my own floral artwork, but I know I'm not going to get the shading and lighting right because I'm not an artist. And I don't want a flat 1-D or 2-D stencil, I would use a multi-layered stencil to get more vibrant colors and definition, but if I purchase a bunch of random stencils (examples from AlteNew) and put them together, I don't think it'll be right in terms of where colors are lighter/darker, if that makes sense. I can't find any large stencils that fit the bill, any stencils I find are a single layer (which makes it fall flat for what I'm looking for) or intended to be a repeat pattern.

So that leaves me with zero inspiration after a month of trying different things, and even if I just do a flat wall, I'm still stuck on wall color for paint. What complements the cherry red vanity, the ick yellow-ish granite countertop, the peach-y ish tile, AND, the navy blue towels? (I just bought those towels and they are divine and I'm not giving them up lol).

Oh shoot - out of order, I also took a picture of the tiny tiles in the shower, and a close-up of the vanity and counter, for color matching.

Any help/inspiration would be so greatly appreciated!!!!

Replacing our bathroom vanity. Floating or floor mounted?

We're finally updating our main bathroom because the old vanity is falling apart

I spent way too many hours scrolling through bathroom trends online and there are so many options it's overwhelming. I thought I knew what I wanted, but now I'm second-guessing everything

Basically, we need a single sink. That part is easy. I really like the look of floating vanities. They make the bathroom feel bigger and more modern. Clean lines, no legs on the floor

I also found one with two giant drawers instead of cabinet doors. It’s nice and stylish, but I’m not sure if it’s practical

Are floating vanities actually practical? Will they hold up over time? I worry about the weight. And what if we ever need to fix the plumbing? Seems like it could be a lot of work

Also, do the drawers get stuck if they're too heavy? I can just imagine loading them up with towels and then struggling to open them

Has anyone installed either of these? Which one is more comfortable to use every day?

For the time being how can I update this bathroom?

Looking for low cost solutions besides deep cleaning this bathroom. I don’t know if it’s in the budget to pull the tile sadly how else could I make it look a bit better? And sadly yes the actual floor tile looks a lot worse than the staged pic.

👋 Trying to Build a Timeless Bathroom, What Am I Missing?

Looking for some design feedback before I start remodeling.
This is one of my three upstairs guest bathrooms. My plan is to make all three guest bathrooms identical for a clean, consistent look throughout the upstairs.

Current plan:

1) 24” × 48” Monaco porcelain tile (Calacatta Gold look) on the tub/shower walls to the ceiling.
2) 12” × 24” matte white porcelain floor tile.
3) Frameless brushed gold sliding tub door.
4) Brushed gold shower system, faucet, and accessories.
5) Existing vanity painted white (keeping the same shaker door style).
6) Existing Calacatta Gold quartz countertop.
7) Large rounded-corner mirror with the light mounted above the mirror.
8) Tankless/smart toilet.
9) One recessed shower niche.

My goal is a timeless, clean, modern luxury
look, something that will still look great 10–15 years from now without feeling trendy.
What would you change? Is there anything you’d do differently before I start? I’d especially appreciate feedback from designers, contractors, or homeowners who’ve done a similar remodel.

Bathroom floating vanity height

The top of the newly installed counter is about 31 inches and the top of the asymmetrical vessel sink is 32 inches closest to where you stand (it’s higher in the back towards the mirror). Is this too low? It’s a custom floating cabinet and so it will be a huge paint to try and move it, but if it looks ridiculous, then maybe I need to.

Lowering Vanity

I will be buying a new home soon and need the dual vanity in the master bathroom lowered about 5 inches. Its L shaped vanity with quartz countertop and undermount sinks.

Ideally I would love to keep the same countertop and cabinet. But I’m not sure if that will be possible. Maybe I can reuse the cabinet but not countertop? I’m thinking it’ll probably crack when it’s removed.

What do you guys think? What would be the best approach?

Help with ugly bathroom!

Sorry it's a dark pic, but how do I make this bathroom look less dated / ugly. I'm renting so can't really do huge changes.

I was thinking adding a shower curtain would make a difference but what kind would go well with the space?

Guest bathroom makeover with blue tiles

I really dont like the blue tile of this bathroom but I don’t have the budget to remake the floor just enough to install a new vanity and thats it, any recommendations or opinions about making it better, with some storage.

Open bath off primary bedroom

Many modern floor plans include an open bath attached to the primary bedroom. No door separates the bedroom from the bathroom. This make NO sense to me. This would imply that my partner and I go to bed at the same time every night, or one of us is brushing teeth, etc. in another bathroom. Otherwise, the late person would disturb the early-to-bed person. How does this design make sense? Am I in the minority? Does almost everyone his the sack at the same time as their partner?
