Road Trip crossing Bosnia

Hi everyone,
I’m currently in Shëngjin, Albania, and planning to drive back to Germany by car with a stop in Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Does anyone know if this route is currently doable, especially regarding road conditions and border crossings? Also, I’ve heard mixed things about police controls in the Bosnia – are they really that bad, or just stricter than in Western Europe?

As an alternative, I could drive along the Montenegro coast and then via Dubrovnik, but I’ve heard that this route gets extremely crowded in summer.

Thanks a lot for your input! 🙏

What can a vegan eat in Sarajevo?

Hi folks. In a week I'll be arriving in Sarajevo and I'll stay there for a week. I have agreed to participate in this trip back in november, when I wasn't vegan. After a lot of thinking I decided that I wanted to be vegan about at the start of this month, august.
I know that in Bosnia it's tipical to consume a lot of meat and they even told us that in the meetings we had in the past months to prepare for this trip.
If possible I would prefer not to eat any meat and eat vegan/vegetarian if I have to.
Got any tips on what foods I should look for?
I doubt I'll be able to go to specific places as I am travelling with a group of over thirty people.

What would be some nice small towns to stay in on the drive from Dubrovnik to Sarajevo?

I would love some local insight to this question. We're just trying to break up this drive into two days, and looking for a nice place to stop.

We don't need anything fancy. Just want pretty scenery & somewhere we can find a cabin or hotel. Bonus if there's somewhere to go swimming!

We are willing to go either the western route that's more direct, or the eastern route through Republika Srpska. We can go slightly out of our way if we need to.

Note - we are already staying in Mostar and Konjic on an earlier part of our trip, so would prefer a different place. A small town would be nice since most of our trip is cities.

Thank you for any thoughts you have!

Best use of 24 hours in Mostar?

Hi all,

I will be in Mostar for a day in mid-September (arriving late Monday evening then getting the early morning train to Sarajevo the following Wednesday). I know Mostar is small enough that you can see the whole old town in a couple of hours, but I was wondering if something like Blagaj Tekke would be accessible enough to be worth visiting too?

Obviously if I had more time I would try and do everything Mostar has to offer, but since I've got limited time there I'd like to know what people think are the most important things to see/do so I can plan my day in advance. Any recommendations much appreciated, many thanks!

I visited Sarajevo and it was one of the best cities I’ve been in

I went to Sarajevo for this week and since I landed I was captivated by this city, sadly i came as a tourist (dw i tried my best to show a good image by not being rude) and everyone here is a good person, I made Bosnian friends and got introduced to the culture, it was not very different from mine (as a Muslim from Jerusalem) defenetly not my last time but ofc my last time as a tourist, god bless this country and my Bosnian brothers!

Parking ticket in Sarajevo

What should I do about my parking fine?

I hired a car for our holiday last month. I got a 40.00km parking ticket in Sarajevo on 14th July and returned the hire car on 16th. I notified the hire car place about the ticket and asked if I could pay it myself directly. They said to wait as the police would send the notice to them and they’d email it to me. It’s been a month now and I still haven’t had an email.

Should I contact them or keep waiting? I’m worried the fine will increase.

Best transportation for Sarajevo and Mostar?

Sarajevo and Mostar Transportation

Hi! My family and I are booking a trip to Bosnia early next month. We were thinking of staying for a few days in Sarajevo, and spending 2 nights in Mostar then going back to Sarajevo on the last day to head back to the airport.

I've heard that the best way to Mostar is through the train due to the convenience and the amazing view.

My question is does anyone know if we should book the train tickets online or do we go directly to the train station on the same day?

Also.... I've heard that the train only runs on certain days but I couldn't find information online regarding if that's still the case or not. And I'm not sure about the to and from timings.

Finally, in case the train isn't an option for the way back are buses available everyday from Mostar to Sarajevo? Any link that has bus route information is highly appreciated.

Bonus: any suggestions on the best and most affordable transportation method in between places? Local taxis/ a taxi app/ hiring a driver/ etc..

Any help is appreciated!

Sarajevo Early Morning Flight Trasfer

I have an early morning flight from Sarajevo airport (6:30am). The Centrobus airport shuttle doesn't run that early. I was going to take the night bus 107 and walk from school drop off near airport. How reliable is this bus at night? Is the walk between bus stop and airport terminal sketchy at 4am? Am I better off just getting a taxi? Is it hard to get a taxi at 4am?

Sarajevo old town advice

Hi.

My parents are currently in Sarajevo and they are staying in old town.

I have told them to go to:

  1. Od Trdelnik Sarajevo to try their chimney cake

  2. Try Cevapi and coffee

  3. Explore markets

  4. Sevdah Kahva (is the live music only Friday?)

  5. Latin bridge

Is there anything else I should be adding, tips or evening suggestions?

Thank you :)

Bosnia in November

I will be visiting at the end of November. The only thing I have planned currently is a walking tour. I've looked at a tour with Srebrencia as well as Mostar. With it being November, do these sound doable or should I not do one or the other based on the weather? I have no issue with the cold so I'm not too concerned.

I will only be in Sarajevo and only from a Thursday to Monday. Any other suggestions on what I should look at doing?

Sarajevo & Mostar Itinerary Check

My partner and I (early 30s, visiting from NYC) are spending 4 days in Bosnia & Herzegovina in a couple of weeks before heading over to Montenegro. We’ll be doing 2 days in Sarajevo and 2 days in Mostar, relying on buses, private tours, and taxis/walking.

We love history, active sightseeing, food, and culture. We’d love a quick sanity check on our itinerary, particularly regarding museum choices in Sarajevo and a few logistics questions!

Here’s what we have planned:

Day 1 in Sarajevo:
Land at Sarajevo Airport (What's the best way to get a taxi from the airport into town? Is there a reliable app (like MojTaxi), or should we stick to airport cabs?)
Casual sightseeing around city center (Baščaršija Bazaar, Latin Bridge)
Sunset at Yellow Bastion

Day 2 in Sarajevo:
Trebević Mountain
Museum - Trying to choose the best museum for our interests. I love learning about the country's history, my partner just needs something stimulating and interesting. Thinking about doing War Childhood Museum (and potentially adding on Gallery 11/07/95), but are we making a mistake skipping the Tunnel of Hope (War Tunnel Museum), the National Museum, or the Museum of Crimes Against Humanity? If we only have time for two, did we pick the right ones?

Day 1 in Mostar:
Taking the morning bus from Sarajevo to Mostar (booked via Prevoz Putnika). (Anything specific we should know about bus station procedures?)
The Museum of War and Genocide Victims
Stari Most
Sunset at Kosko Mehmed Pasha Mosque?

Day 2 in Mostar:
Guided Day Trip to Kravice Waterfall, Blagaj, and Počitelj

Does this flow well, or are we rushing anything too much? Any specific food/restaurant recommendations in Sarajevo or Mostar would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Unaprijed hvala.

Traveling 8/11-8/25 to Bosnia, no plans or schedule

Hello - I am a single 36F with plans to travel to Bosnia on Tuesday (8/11). I was to meet a former work colleague who is a local resident in Tuzla and we were going to be traveling around together and make our way down to Split, where I was going to take the ferry to Ancona, Italy to visit another friend. Unfortunately, these plans have suddenly changed due to my colleagues' health and I am suddenly alone without anything booked and/or planned.

I will be flying into Belgrade, and I am just wondering how easy it is to travel throughout Serbia/Bosnia by bus and train to places beyond the city centers of Sarajevo and Mostar? If I wanted to go to the various National Parks, are there buses that take you there, do I need to book day trips with companies to do these types of trips, etc.? Had I known I was going to be traveling solo, I would have planned this much better and well in advance. But now, I quite literally just have the flight.

What hotels are best/safe to stay in that have reliable internet to take work calls in the evening, what are the must go to "local" restaurants, what do you need to plan in advance in terms of going to the national parks and river rafting, etc.? Are there any other must do activities? Also recognize there is a heat wave going on, and with many establishments not having A/C, I'd like to be close to water bodies to cool down and not necessarily city walking the whole time. I love getting immersed in local culture and foods, 1-2 day of touristy things is fine, but would really like to see and experience things as a local.

Any suggestions would be welcome, as I now have to plan this segment of the trip in the next day or so.

Thanks so much in advance.

Preporuke za mesta za opustanje! / Recommendations for places to unwind!

Zdravo svima.
Hvala svima!
Hello all. Me and my partner will be in Bosnia for 2 weeks soon, as we are seeing some family. We wanted to know if anyone has any
recomendations around Banja Luka/ Prijedor maybe 3 hours drive maximum. We don't drink and are looking for places we can relax/swim/eat domestic food such as natural waterfalls, lakes, basically any nice nature spots or places of interest, that maybe aren't too full of tourists. I'm also bringing my paddleboard, is Bosnia strict on where you can paddleboard? In my country you require a license for this. Thank you all!
