Golf courses along the M6?

My wife and I are going to watch the Women's Open at Lytham St Anne's. We'll be coming from the south, and looking to play some golf somewhere not far from an M6 junction.

Nowhere fancy or tough - we're very high handicappers, just looking to break the journey from down south with a casual round of golf.

Any suggestions?

Because golf…is hard.

2 round Club Championship (I’m a 15.0 handicap so no chance) but there’s a net prize too. Shot 87, net 71, yesterday putting me in 5th place out of nearly 60 players. Today I shoot 101, net 85 with a 9 off the first (2 in the lake, luckily one curved enough to allow me to ratio rather than play 5 off the tee). When I strike the ball it’s as good as anyone, but the consistency is just…way off. I probably had one solid hole on Sat, every other hole I hit one bad shot be scrambled well. Today…I probably hit 2 bad shots per hole :-)

Consoling myself with a glass of wine now and can’t wait to get back out there :-D

MyEG v MyScottishGolf

I’m fairly new to golf and don’t have a HCP yet however unsure which app is best to use. For context I’m based in Scotland but likely to play regularly in England with friends. Scottish Golf claims to have cross border scoring but English courses simply do not ever show up on the app when switching to England and searching or when being geographically on the course.

I don’t want to commit to using Scottish Golf and then not be able to add any of my scores from English courses. Has anyone had a similar issue and can someone advise if England Golf has better cross border compatibility before I pay the iGolf subscription?

Looks for recs in NE England

Few of my mates and I are looking for a couple of reasonable courses we could make into a weekend.

We’re casual to casually better in standard and a broad variety of handicaps, so fun rather than tough is the sweet spot.

Happy to drive 4-5hrs from Edinburgh, if anyone can offer some suggestions.

Cheers

Any Twickenham / SW London golfers here? Looking for local club recommendations (Strawberry Hill?)

Hi everyone,

Are there many golfers based around Twickenham or the South West London area on here?

I’ve been playing casually for a few years now, but I’m looking to take the plunge and join a club. My main goals are to finally get an official handicap, get stuck into some proper competitions, and meet some new people to play rounds with.

Ideally, I'm looking for a club that won’t cost an arm and a leg. Strawberry Hill Golf Club is only a 25-minute walk from my place, so it’s right at the top of my list for sheer convenience.

Because it's a 9-hole course, I'd love to know:
* What is the vibe like for newer members joining solo?
* Is there an active competitive and weekend stableford scene?
* Does the 9-hole layout get repetitive, or does it hold up well?

If anyone has any experience with Strawberry Hill (or if you have any recommendations for other hidden gems or budget-friendly tracks nearby that I should look into) I’d really appreciate the insight!

Cheers!

Metro Golf Centre london handicap message

My partner and I planned to play our first round of golf at metro golf centre, it’s a small par 3 so we thought good for casuals. We’ve only ever been to the driving range about 15 times in the last 3 months.

The confirmation email includes the below information, how strict will this be???

Handicaps

This facility is only available to golfers who have a handicap of 28 or
less (men) or 36 or less (ladies). If you don't have a handicap, you
must be able to play to an equivalent standard.

Most rookie etiquette errors?

In my first ever round of golf, my playing partner gave me several 'gimmes'. Young naïve me thought it meant that you treat the ball as holed at that point.

It took about 4 more games for me to realise that you still have to add an extra shot(!). No wonder I was basking in the false glow of some low scores - I just put it down to beginners luck.

Ladies and gentlemen of Britgolf... Please tell me I am not alone in thinking this when I first started?? What other clangers did you drop when you first got into golf?

Any high handicappers want to play in Bromley or Addington?

New to the game, looking for people at similar level, been playing about 6 months or so.

Looking for someone/people who'd be up for regular rounds at Bromley Golf Centre or Addington?

Shot scope Vs Arccos?

Looking at getting something to passively track my on-course yardage (currently using basic GPS watch and a pencil and paper!). I am a high handicapper so this is really just to track data for fun - not trying to be a pro or break 80 (or, Frankly, 100)

Arccos seems like the gold standard but not cheap... On paper, shot scope seems to do pretty much the same but without the recurring subscription fees.

Is there a bit more to it than that? Or are they pretty much the same product and would I be a mug to pay out for arccos?

Golf Tour 2026 - Birmingham

After Newcastle (2024) and Manchester (2025), this year saw us descend on Birmingham for our annual golf. Five games in three days.

We played:

- The Belfry (Brabazon)

- Drayton Park Golf Club

- The Belfry (PGA National)

- Ullesthorpe Court

- Forest Hill

The Belfry is everything you would expect! Exceptional in every way but a challenging play. All the other courses were also incredible to play. Likely the fact we had played 4 rounds already but Forest Hill was a challenging one.

Next year!?! Who knows yet...

Another day in the life of a 22hcp golfer!

Step 1: double the 1st and assume this round will be like every other.

Step 2: play the next 4 holes like the best golf you've ever played and convince yourself you are on your way to an absolute dream PB

Step 3: proceed to screw it all up and shoot +12 through 4 holes.

Step 4: give up after 9 holes

Hitting into groups question

The other week I hit into the group ahead of me by accident. I called fore and carried on with the intention to apologise at the next tee box as the course was backed up. Making my way halfway down the fairway a guy on another fairway saw what happened and really dug me out over it getting pretty angry. I thought it wasn't any of his business and told him it was between me and the group. When I caught up to the group I apologised profusely, they were really cool about it and laughed it off. A marshal then drove up in a buggy as the other guy had called them out on me, he was also cool about it and if anything explained that not all members were like that.

My question is do you think he was in the right (even to a lesser degree of his reaction) to dig me out and would any of you call someone out on a different hole for hitting into someone else? I've been playing for under a year so not sure myself

Owston Hall

Booked a night away for me and the misses but haven't told her it's got a golf course attached to it as of yet 😬

Has anyone played here and if so, is it any good?

A frustrating day. Episode 4123

Hitting the ball fairly well and putting was not bad. These quadruples and trebles are ruining my days. I will shoot low 80s this season! I hope

Broke 80 with my first ever Eagle today!

Yeah it’s a par 69 course, but shot 10 over with my most put together round of golf I’ve ever shot. Played strict rules as a solo, the eagle was on a 320 yard par 4, hit my new Darkspeed X driver right down the middle and hit a half shot 50 degree which bounced once, then straight into the hole… best round I’ve played!

Play more golf App

Hi all

I’ve come across Play More Golf online as I’m looking to start up playing golf and would like to play 2/3 times a month

Has anyone played with / used or is using Play More Golf AND would recommend it?

I have looked at the memberships on there compared to with the clubs direct and with PMG the memberships seem much cheaper? Why is this. I just can’t get my thick head around it.

From my understanding it appears as though it goes off a point system? So for example, my local club cost £400 and I get 100 points. So I get to use 100 points in the year and it appears as though a round of golf can cost me between 4-6 points? Therefore, it won’t cost me a thing (after initial payment) to play, other than points…. And then any remaining at the end of the year will be added to the year after if I chose to renew.

Does this work out cheaper in the long run has anyone found?

Does one book through PMG when they want to play a round of golf?
