Are there any penalties for not telling Centrelink something you were supposed to tell them about?

I didn't report something for a bit before I realised I was meant to and now I'm worried about getting in trouble. Are they harsh about this kind of stuff or do they just adjust your payments? What actually happens if you come clean about it?

Crisis payment help.

Short background story. A few years ago I had an incident that required police to attend and put a restraining order in place against the father of my son, full ivo in place until 2029. (It has been breached twice over the years.)
On the weekend he entered my home, I stupidly opened my door without checking who it was. He was drunk and I’m guessing drug affected and smashed up the walls and doors in my rental. I immediately called 000 police attended, he tried to fight the police, got pepper sprayed in the hallway, arrested and taken outside. I made my statement. The police left (very thankful and grateful for them) and now I’m left with a ridiculous amount of damage to my home.

I spoke to orange door (domestic violence help centre) and they suggested that i apply for the crisis payment that Centrelink has but because we weren’t living together I don’t qualify for financial help in fixing the damage.

Does assistance only apply to people living together?
I’m a single mum in vic currently surviving on single parenting payment.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Provider appointment 🤦

I’m (28M) a full-time uni student, I’ve told my job provider over and over and over I can’t attend this jobs expo or do this stupid course etc. They hate the word no and I love it, but now they’ve booked me an appointment for Tuesday, the day of uni and assignments being handed in.

They have my schedule, it’s all in the system.. yet I still get asked “what do you do, are you looking for work. Do you study?” IDIOTS. They always want old payslips when they’ve never helped me get a job either?

Do I have to attend this crap? Do I need a job “provider”?

Wfh

I’ve been at uni while on jobseeker & been reporting my points manually i’m almost finished my degree but during my face to face appointment i was told i haven’t done my required activity, work for the dole i assume? I thought my studying was an approved activity but anyway.

Does anyone know how long work for the dole is & what the activity may be? I’m at Ames Parramatta.

Jobseeker question

Hey guys, I've been on Jobseeker for 4 months and just got a message "You must do an Employability Skills Training course to meet your activity requirement." I am self managed, and think I'm getting this because I forgot to do an activity by 3 months. Is there any way of getting out of this training? I have just started applying for a jobs again after a return from travelling and don't really need any assistance writing a resume or preparing for interviews so I assume it would be a bit of a waste of time. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers.

Issue with PLP and Carer Payment

Wondering if anyone has had issues with being paid PLP while on Carer payment? I’ve calculated what my carer payment should be based off their information on how the PLP income affects the CP, but the amount they are saying I will get after I run out of working credits is a lot less than it should be.

They sent a letter saying my future payments will drop to $298.97, but I calculated that I should still be getting around $497.85 (based on income limit of $380 before payments are affected and my pension payment dropping by 25c per dollar over that amount).

I’m partnered, getting ftb part a, carer payment and allowance, and now PLP as well. I don’t understand how their calculation is about $200 less than what it should be based on the information from their website.

Thank you in advance!

Can I travel interstate for a family emergency without my payment being cut?

I need to go down to melbourne for a couple of weeks to help look after a sick relative but I am worried my mutual obligations will cause my jobseeker payment to get suspended while I am away. Do I need to get explicit permission from my provider before booking the bus or can I just manage my points online while interstate?

DSP evidence, process etc

Hi there, please forgive me as I'm new to using Reddit and this is my first time posting.

I've been lurking on this sub for a while, esp in the DSP section, but wanted to ask some questions as I'm autistic and have anxiety and just need further clarification/clear direction!

Note in case it's relevant: I am currently on Jobseeker, and using medical exemptions to assist me in overriding completing mutual obligations, given that I can't work, and would be unable to consistently and reliably complete the mutual obligations (if at all).
(I've also just been booked for an ESAt after handing in my most recent medical exemption so any advice on that would be really appreciated as I'm really anxious about it, and phone calls in general).

To start, I have diagnosed POTS, fibromyalgia, ASD (level 1, but doing a reassessment soon to amend the diagnosis to level 2), anxiety, depression.
Also getting an ADHD assessment, though that's less disabling than everything else, just relevant as an 'other medical condition', I suppose.
Along with this we suspect I have ME/CFS, and are currently working towards diagnosis for that as well.

Because of all my conditions (especially fibro & ME/CFS), I am unable to work, as most days I can barely leave my bed, and even on better days, I end up suffering with bad PEM after doing things, not limited to but especially if I have an appointment out of the house or a bigger event (a party, an outing, hanging out w friends, even concerts or musicals where I'm sitting the entire time [these are incredibly infrequent] etc etc). Even something like a shower, or making myself food, eating a bigger meal, etc can knock me down for hours or even days, sometimes a week or more (esp smth like a shower).

I am grateful and privileged to still be able to do fun things on occasion, but the point is, I can't work, despite desperately wanting to, and I don't think working is foreseeable in the near future (the next 2-5 years at least, given how significantly my conditions are impacting me). I've been dealing with everything to a more minor level for over a decade but everything physical significantly worsened in July 2024, and has only gotten worse since then.

I was hoping for some clarity and assistance on what kinds of things I need as evidence not just for my diagnoses existing, but in the context of being reasonably treated and stabilised - especially given fibro and ME/CFS don't really have any proven treatments, and they're practically impossible to stabilise (and mine are only worsening).

I have undertaken exercise physiology/strength and conditioning sessions for more than a year at this point - Feb 2025 to Nov 2025, took a break due to my EP leaving, and then again from Apr 2026 to current - with no improvement for pain or fatigue. It usually causes flareups. From what I can tell, this is effectively equivalent to GET (graded exercise therapy) - which is proven to be harmful for ME/CFS, but my GP insists on me continuing it, and I know NDIS and other systems want people with ME/CFS to have undertaken it to prove it won't get better with exercise.
I haven't tested out meds for pain, purely because painkillers have had no effect for me, and my GP hasn't wanted to test out anything stronger because of the risk of addiction/reliance. I've tried multiple combinations of meds to assist with my sleep, but even once we find a combination that works, they slowly stop working after a period of time.
I have an OT who performed a Functional Capacity Assessment that will hopefully help both with NDIS (hoping to get funding for Supported Independent Living) and with Centrelink with DSP, and my psychologist and GP can also write letters for me. Received the FCA and it's defined me as 'severely disabled' and that's with the focus only being on my autism (as it's primarily for NDIS and that's what I have NDIS for rn).
I saw an immunologist in October but that was an unhelpful appointment.
As well a seeing a sleep physician recently which only served to prove my only sleep issues seem to be tied to my chronic illnesses. (I did a sleep study earlier this year which showed mild apnoea, in a micro-wake sense, rather than snoring/oxygen levels dropping, and the sleep physician said there's nothing particularly that can or needs to be done to "fix" that).
I currently have an initial/intake appointment booked for August with a rheumatologist as well to hopefully assist in the management of my chronic pain.

I apologise, I'm rambling and this is probably kind of everywhere, but I just wanted to ask whether there's further things I need to try in terms of treatment/stability, or whether all of this should be enough medical evidence?
I know some places still want you to do GET (graded exercise therapy), but I know the risks and that it usually will worsen someone's condition, so I don't want to risk that, especially given the exercise physiology effectively has the same purpose and has not had any positive impacts for me.

For anyone who's gotten DSP for the same/similar conditions, what was the process like? What evidence did you provide? How did the whole assessment of impairment work? Did you have to do a Program of Support first? Does your DSP application get rejected if you haven't done one or does it pause while you do one, if you don't meet the 20 points on a single table of impairment?
The impact on me and my life should meet 20 on at least 1, if not 2, of the tables, but I know that it's Centrelink's job to judge that, not mine, so I still run the risk of not meeting that.

My sincere apologies for this long mess of a post, please be gentle and patient with me, the brain fog and fatigue are real today, I just hyperfocused on this without being able to read it back and comprehend if I was making any sense 😅

Also please feel free to ask me any questions!
Any assistance is greatly appreciated 💜

(Please lmk if the bolding/italics makes it hard to read, and I'll remove it!)

What happens if I just don’t go to the face to face appointment today?

Everytime I’m sick I call in and say phone appointment or reschedule and she says no it’s not good enough you need to come in? Excuse me? Then she says you can only work in a factory. I don’t want to go today

Carers allowance & Carers payment

I'm on Disability support pension and have severe disabilities my son applied for carers payment and carers allowance on 1st June 2026 I have had the doctors medical report done that my son had to do we took it into centrelink and everything was successfully submitted. With no further tasks asked of him and he has only received 3 emails saying we are still working on your claim and you don't need to do anything, I don't understand why it's nearly 4 weeks and if their are no further tasks why does it take so long to finalise his claim as he doesn't earn anything he us my full time carer and its a financial strain with just my disability support pension.

Centrelink decision letter

I recently received a letter from centrelink saying it was the decision for my application for independent rates, for context, I had gotten 2 separate phone calls from ladies from centrelink who told me i was approved and needed things, i was approved for the payments early and was getting the payments early on, along with rent assistance.

the letter i had just received has now stated that i was not approved?? i checked my centrelink app and my 2 next payments are both the same. i am studying full-time so thats the reason for no work, not out of laziness, im just swamped with my studying and have no time with that and the rest of my life.

the letter was worded a bit wrong? unless im just misunderstanding it. and i dont know what to do with this or if i appeal the decision. i was told twice about it being approved and not to stress anymore and they would talk to me about any changes in a years time. its been about a month, maybe a bit more. i wont get into the details of what happened at home but it was never physical, it was all mental and i was put onto a high dosage medication to deal with the mental health problems that were caused by it and i am still struggling with my own identity (with therapy to assist with that) and both workers told me they were happy i got out and that i shouldve applied a while ago to assist moving out.

the letter states:
"Your Youth Allowance - Request to be paid as an independent person"
"We are writing to you about your request to be paid as an independent person. We cannot pay you as an independent person because more beneficial with away form home assessment"
"We have considered other ways of assessing you as an independent person and these do not apply in your case."

none of thats written wrong, thats what it says then goes on about if i dont agree with the decision

i went onto the website and it says on my profile im dependent, but my payments havent changed? they are the same.

i am just co confused about this and needed some help, thank you

If I was offered a full-time role through my JSP but chose a casual position instead, will this affect my Jobseeker payments?

What I mean by this is will i get any penalties/cancellation of Jobseeker?
