How are you dealing with mutual obligations when you’re already overloaded?

I’ve been trying to keep up with mutual obligation requirements while already feeling pretty stretched, and it’s starting to feel a bit hard to juggle everything at once. How are people actually managing it when study, work, and everything else already fills most of the week, and there’s not much breathing room left?

I quit a full-time job while on job seeker

I started a full time job on the 13th of May and after 3 days of working there realised that this is not the job for me. All we did for the 3 days is sit there and watch shows or played on our phones while we waited for phone calls to come in. 8 hours of just sitting there, I don't know about any of you but that to me is not a job I would want. I want a job that actually benefits me rather then just lets me do nothing. I reported that I had started a full time job to workforce Australia. Will I lose my payments? Is telling them that the job was not what I was expecting and just a job where you sit around and do nothing a reasonable excuse to leave?

What actually happens if you miss a job provider appointment once?

I missed one appointment with my job provider and I’ve been stressing about what that actually means. I wasn’t trying to avoid it, something really urgent came up. Now I’m worried it’s going to mess with my payments or get me flagged for something worse than it really is. Just trying to figure out how serious a single missed one actually is before I panic too much.

Has anyone fallen pregnant with there ex whilst on SPP?

I’m living with my 2 kids on my own in a rental what did you tell Centrelink falling pregnant to your ex? I don’t want to do the wrong thing and end up in a big dept it’s happened the 2nd time after celebrations with his family as it’s my kids family aswell it was a slip up but I do not plan on getting back with him I don’t want Centrelink to not believe it as the last time was a slip up at my ex’s aunty wedding, I’ve considered getting a termination but can’t bring myself to do it! I’m really not in a relationship with him we have a private arrangement for child support.

Did you know all “Mutual Obligations” are Voluntary

The only thing you need to do get paid is reengage (by calling up, you don’t ever have to go into the office) and report.
Everything else so JCs can hit their KPIs to justify their parasitic existence.
Their job is to sign you up for things but you don’t have to go and face no financial hit. The only thing they can do if transfer to another provider (but they won’t as the business gets paid for having you on the books and can allocate your allotted funding for someone else…

Why is Youth Allowance still lower than JobSeeker?

I was looking at the May 2026 Centrelink rates and noticed JobSeeker for a single person is still noticeably higher than Youth Allowance (away from home). The gap seems to be roughly $130–$150 a fortnight depending on circumstances.

What I don’t really get is the reasoning behind it. If someone on Youth Allowance is renting privately, their costs for rent, food, electricity etc aren’t really any different to someone on JobSeeker. So I’m wondering what the actual policy logic is here. Is it mainly based on the idea that younger people can lean on parental support, or is there something else that justifies keeping the rate lower?

Rent assistance went up in March but my rent just went up by double that amount

The indexation hit in March and I got a few extra bucks a fortnight but my landlord just sent a notice for a fifty dollar a week increase. It feels like the government is just subsidising the landlords at this point. Is anyone else finding that the increases are actually making the rental crisis worse?

How many jobs are you guys actually applying for to hit your points?

I feel like I am running out of actual legitimate roles in my area and just applying for random stuff now. It feels so pointless just sending off resumes for things I know I won't get just to keep the dashboard green. Is everyone else just spamming applications at this stage or are you finding other ways to get the points up?

I really hate the partnership deduction so much

I'm stuck here on $820 each pay and -$300 of that for board alone. I really despise just because I live with my partner who is also on DSP we both get hit with a -$250 each penalty. Why tf do I have to live off this little amount, can't even buy medical things to help my day to day or surgery's I desperately need

Recieved jobseeker payment but have no job plan.

Hello, I applied for jobseeker back in january and got approved. Due to my savings account i wasnt able to start getting anything until this april-may.

Fast forward to may and i have just recieved my first payment, However i was never sent a job plan. I have checked my email, mygov, centrelink, Workforce aus and sms. Couldnt find anything about a job plan.

Is this normal? Will they send me one soonish since payments are now rolling. I'm sorta worried i could get into trouble as i havent actually signed any job plan yet.

Any advice is appreciated. Ty

Partnered income test and one nation.

Given the rise of one nation, and their recent win over a so called safe liberal seat in Victoria this weekend.

There is no support from Labour, Liberal or the greens to change the rules as they currently are in relation to partnered income test reducing the rate paid.

I don’t know if one nation is receptive to making the rate independent of their partner, BUT if they were, would all those who are regular contributors to this issue vote for one nation?

NEW REPORT: The Human Cost of the Partner Income Test

I’ve released an independent report: The Human Cost of the Partner Income Test.

This report is based on a survey I ran with Australians impacted by partner income testing. Over two weeks, the survey received 798 responses. After data review, 794 responses were included in the main quantitative analysis.

The findings show that partner income testing is not just an administrative Centrelink rule. Respondents described financial dependency, hardship, fear of disclosure, relationship strain and safety risks.

Among included respondents:

  • 76.6% reported feeling like a “burden” or “dependent” rather than an equal partner.
  • 58.8% reported being unable to pay bills such as rent or utilities.
  • 55.9% reported delaying medical appointments or medication.
  • 54.0% reported housing insecurity.
  • 44.0% said the Partner Income Test had made them feel unsafe or prevented them from leaving a relationship.
  • 38.4% said they had avoided disclosing a relationship to Centrelink because they could not afford the cut to their payment.

The report’s primary recommendation is to abolish the Partner Income Test across affected Centrelink payments and assess adults as financially independent individuals, regardless of relationship status.

This morning, I sent the report to politicians, journalists and advocacy organisations. I’m now sharing publicly.

Please read the report, share it, send it to your MP, or pass it on to anyone working in social security, disability, poverty, family violence, housing, gender equality or economic justice.

A relationship should not mean losing financial independence.

Download and read the report here: https://tr.ee/sCjrwigD79

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their experience. This wouldn't have been possible without you.

Voluntarily transfer to job services provider?

I'm looking for work atm and in the 12 month self-managed period of job seeker. Is it worth requesting to transfer to a provider or would they not provide any worthwhile help?
