Digital alarm clock radio under €50 (EU market)

Digital alarm clock radio under €50 (EU market)

After more than 20 years of flawless service, my bedside alarm clock radio, a Panasonic RC-6299 (Matsushita Audio), finally "met" my nephew, who managed to destroy it!

Its digital clock wasn’t quartz-controlled, instead it relied on the mains power frequency, which kept it remarkably accurate all these years; a great investment for only €25! I know this kind of cheap yet effective technology is gone now and nowadays quartz clocks in alarm radios are, at best, radio-controlled.
I’m not interested in buying a used 20 yo alarm clock on eBay with that old technology so I’m looking at current products available on the EU market, with a budget of €50 (around $50).

The only features I really need, besides the radio itself, are:

  • It must not run on batteries, because I don’t want to deal with buying batteries. It'd be supplied from the mains with a power adapter. External or internal power supply is fine.
  • The time display should be always illuminated, with bright digits on a black background.
  • A good radio-controlled clock system, because I’ve heard cheaper models only receive the signal reliably if they are close to open air (eg. near a window), and they may struggle inside an apartment.
  • (Lasting another 20 years without giving me any problems.)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Even if you’re not in the EU, feel free to recommend brands and models, I might still be able to find them here.

I bought a phone case from Ali***ress for my phone and only now realized that the rear insert is not actually magnetic. I already checked it with a multimeter set to resistance (ohms) and confirmed that the part is metallic. I'd like to remove this metal insert and replace it with a truly magnetic one. I already tried mechanical prying with a blade but only ended up damaging the surrounding plastic housing.
Which solvents or debonding agents could be used to detach this metal component from the plastic substrate? Unfortunately there're no identification marks on the plastic, so I cannot determine whether it is ABS, PC, TPU, or another thermoplastic.

So far I’ve been using an old 3.5 inch Garmin navigator in my small left-hand-drive 2001 MK4 Ford Fiesta, mounting it with its suction cup holder on the windshield just below the rearview mirror. Now I’d like to use my 6.5 inch smartphone as a navigation device, so I need to buy a car mount. The type of mount depends on where the phone is positioned. I’m not sure whether placing it below the mirror is still a good option, mainly because it’s wider than the Garmin though its height is the same, anyway I’m concerned it might obstruct too much of the road view.

I’ve attached photos of the small cabin with my current 3.5" navigator installed, along with a close-up of the instrument cluster showing my 6.5" phone resting in place.

What's the best mounting position for a 6.5 inch navigation device in a small car interior?
