POFQ or AKL?

Hi all.
Planning an October 2027 trip.
From the UK. 14 nights.
2 adults, 5 year old and 10 month old.
We will be hiring a car.

My choices are

Port Orleans French Quarter
- preferred room
- quick service dining plan
- 14 day tickets with memory maker

Animal Kingdom Lodge DVC Deluxe Studio Rental
- savannah view
- no dining
- 14 day tickets with memory maker

These work out about the same price but the POFQ includes food, but the DVC room includes a kitchenette. It’s my 30th birthday trip, our 3rd go as a family but of course my baby’s first time.
Both on bus system only - but we will likely mostly use the car anyway and drive to the parks so this feels less relevant.

What do y’all think? What would you go for?

Help with lost and found

I recently stayed at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. After checking out and arriving at the airport, I discovered that my Sony WH-1000XM6 headphones were not in my backpack. I tried calling the resort to speak with the front desk and inform them I left my headphones in my room. I was unable to speak to anyone at the front desk (I was told by guest services that managers only do face to face). I was instructed to file a lost item claim online, and that when housekeeping turns them in, I would receive the information needed to have them shipped to me.

That night when I got home, I used Google's find hub app to check the location of my headphones and discovered them to be located in apartment complex (unit 56) in Winter Haven, Florida which is about 30 miles from the resort. I then updated my lost item report with the exact address of the location of my headphones. I called the resort again, to inform them that my headphones were not turned in but taken home (stolen) by an employee. I asked would it be possible for security to do a key audit to determine the employee(s) that entered that room the morning of my departure. I was told that was impossible, that they don't have a way to do that. I got absolutely nowhere talking to anyone at Disney that would help me in any way get my property returned.

I find it hard to come to terms with the fact, that after spending a week at a Disney resort that cost as much as that one did ($3200 for me and my wife, which did not include meals) that I can't get any assistance getting pair of headphones that I paid $475 for returned to me, and that also it is impossible to speak to a manager on duty by phone.

After receiving a second email today telling me that my lost item has not been found, but that if and when they do find it, I will be notified. I HAVE THE LOCATION OF MY LOST ITEM, and the serial number to prove it belongs to me.

I'm asking that if any of my fellow redditors have any advice for me in this situation, I would be eternally grateful for them to share it.

Resort for MNSSHP one night stay

I’m attending the party for the first time ever (very excited as I love Halloween!). No kids, potentially solo trip. I’m staying one night, and I’m a Florida resident. I’m currently booked for a night at Port Orleans Riverside, but there are three other resorts in my price range: Pop Century, Art of Animation, and Coronado Springs. The day after the party, I plan to have a chill breakfast and some pool time. I think the smaller resort size would be better for this? I’m also originally from New Orleans and my favorite Disney princess is Tiana, so I think I’d appreciate the vibes. Did I make the right choice for my needs? This will be my first resort stay.

HELP! Disney World with 18m old all by myself!

My husband has a work trip to Florida in a few weeks and I and our 18 month old are invited to join. We are staying at a Disney Resort and after consideration decided to take our 18m old to Disney World by myself while he works.

What tips do you have? A few things to note:

  1. This is our 18m old’s first time to Disney
  2. I have not been to Disney World in over 14 years
  3. Our 18m old is a runner!
  4. As stated above, we are staying at a Disney resort.

Is it still possible to resort hop?

I’ve been looking into resort hopping to just explore some of the deluxe resorts. I saw that they are now requiring proof of a resort reservation to be able to ride the buses. Is that still happening? Does it work if you stay at a value resort and hop to other resorts? Or do you have to have a reservation at the specific resort you are hopping to? (For example: stay at Pop Century and take the skyliner to a park, then take a bus to visit some of the other resorts)

Best resort

Hi all!

Planning a trip to WDW in June for me and my fiancee. We are in our late 20’s and would love to stay at a nice resort nearby that has good rooms/transportation to the parks.

Any suggestions?

Evermore Conrad v. Waldorf Astoria v. Signia

Where should we stay?

We are planning to come for 5 nights and go to parks probably 2-3 days so definitely will utilize pool with 2 little kids: 1 and 3.

From what I read - people are either love or hate on Evermore Conrad. I see lots of comments saying WA > Conrad, but see lots of posts saying there’s virtually no difference between Signia and WA.

Have stayed at Signia before and walked over to WA side - obviously it’s quieter, nicer vibe. Is that it?

We were leaning Signia, but now I’m feeling torn.

Where should I stay?

Hiii, I’m currently planning/budgeting out a trip for my 19th birthday next year in June. I plan on going solo and staying for 7 days & 6 nights. I wanna know what park is the best to stay at? I’m trying to stick to a $250 budget per night and I also want quick access and transportation to all of the major parks (magic kingdom, Epcot, animal kingdom, etc.) I also want a room with nice theming but I’m terrified of bugs & spiders so I wanna stay away from the animal resort as my friend stayed there and said her family did see a huge water bug but her dad killed it for them. I however won’t have someone there to help me so I just want to avoid that possibility all together. Of course I have some time on my hands until that point but I would like to start my planning early. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

I want to take my kids to Disney World but don’t know where to start…

I’m looking at ticket and package prices and it looks like if you want to do all 4 parks you’re spending $400+ per person, per day just in tickets alone. Not including food and lodging. I am active military so I was wondering if I could get a discount. I also have a 9 year old and 6 year old so I noticed they’re discounted. We want to go with my parents so that’s 4 grown ups and 2 kids. That’s over $2000 for tickets alone for one day. Is it worth it to stay in the park hotels? Are the food packages worth it? How much does food cost if you don’t have a package? I’m trying to plan this out but still make it budget friendly. I went to Jamacia for a week on 2k so I’m finding it hard to justify Disney for that price not including food or lodging. We’re looking at going over July 4th weekend. Any advice helps. Thanks!!

4 adults in one room - gimme some parenting advice!!

Third trip to WDW coming up late June - can't wait. For the first time (thanks to free dining plan offer), we're staying on property. Have always had a villa previously. So - my wife and I, and two 'kids' (21 and 18) in one room! (Caribbean Beach) For, um, fifteen nights. 😳

Yea, I know. Will be painful at points for sure!

We've talked a lot about how we can best respect each other (everything from bathroom rules, to earplugs, to complete freedom for people to head off and get some much-needed alone-time!)....

....but just wondering if folk have any wisdom, tips, warnings, etc. from similar previous trips?

(If your answer is "Yea, you screwed up.....this is gonna be awful" maybe just keep that to yourself and send up thoughts and prayers for me 😂)

Disney Blogger recs

I’m not on tik tok or instagram, so preferably looking for website based bloggers (this is making me sounds so much older than I feel that I am lol) that have insightful information.

I’m a year out from my trip with my children and want to slowly start chipping away at preparing (cute outfits, ideas for reservations, hacks and packing tips, etc). It’s bringing me joy to daydream about it!

Anyone have someone who comes to mind for this?

Thanks!

Which resort is best for me?

Taking my mom back to Disneyworld in August of next year. We stayed at a villa in OKW because I brought my nephew and ex boyfriend but now we're just doing a trip the two of us :) She wants to stay at Riverside for money but I have enough money to really book us wherever we want so I'm gonna tell her I booked Riverside and probably book somewhere else.

I'd love somewhere not super kid themed and rampant with kids (i know i know, it's still disney) and some place with 1. a tub in the room and 2. a balcony. That being said what places are best for these options?

Port Orleans Riverside - The water smells bad

Anytime we showered or flushed the toilet, a nasty smell lingered from one of the bathroom sinks for multiple hours.

We told guest services about it. They checked while we were away. We never heard back from them, but when we came back they sprayed perfume in the room...

Needless to say, for the whole week the issue wasn't fixed, nor was there an explanation given for the bad smell.

We absolutely loved the rest of the hotel though.

(We were in the Acadian House section)

Poly Studio VS Beach Club Studio at Christmas

Please help me decide! Children are 11, 10 and 2. We’ve stayed at Beach Club previously in a 1BR but this year/time/$ we can only swing the studio pricing. If you’ve stayed at both, which was your favorite resort and why?

What hotel for Disney World?

I am so overwhelmed. Please have mercy and help me.
This is for 2 adults going 28 June - 5 July

I originally planned to stay at Swan Reserve. It's not official Disney but it's inside the park and I can walk to Epcot and it has extended hours.

But it's expensive. Especially as I'll need another $1000 for park tickets

So then I thought what about:
Animation Studios as it has skyliner
or Waldorf Astoria Orlando which is cheaper than Swan or Homes2Suites as I'm.staying for a while so having a bigger room maybe nice.

From what I can tell:
Extended hours is for select parks on select dates. As I am going on around 4th July, I thinks parks will be open late for the fireworks anyway.

No rental car
I do not have a car for this trip. I was planning to either use Disney services or Uber/lyft to get from place to place as I don't like waiting for the shuttle buses

Questions
1: How valuable is it to be able to walk to and from the parks?

2: If taking an Uber is the best alternative to the Disney buses then does hotel location even matter if I am taking an uber anyway?

3: Does it mean I could save even more and stay in a non-disney partner hotel and just uber daily?

4: Is being near Disney Springs for the food options better than staying near Epcot or Animal Kingdom (as I can get Animal kingdom hotel cheaper than Swan)

5: Does staying in a Disney hotel mean you get access on the first check-in day to the water parks or must I still buy the ticket that specifically allows for water parks

6: If I am not park hopping and 1 park per day and not repeating parks. There are 4 parks, I have no need to spend 7 nights within Disney right??

Hollywood Tower Hotel Resort

I saw someone mention this idea in another thread recently and I can’t stop thinking about it: what if Disney built a tower resort themed to the Hollywood Tower Hotel before the events of Tower of Terror?

Not a haunted hotel, but the actual glamorous 1930s hotel in its prime. Art deco lobby, jazz music, rooftop supper club, old Hollywood pool vibes, brass elevators, palm trees everywhere, etc. Basically the kind of place you’d imagine movie stars staying at during the golden age of Hollywood.

What makes this feel plausible to me is that it lines up really well with Disney’s current resort strategy. They clearly like building DVC towers right now, and a Hollywood Tower Hotel aesthetic would fit luxury tower architecture WAY better than a lot of other themes. It also gives them something atmospheric and distinctly Disney without needing a ton of IP shoved into it.

I think the best version would lean into mystery instead of horror. Like during the day it feels glamorous and lively, but at night the lighting changes, distant thunder rolls in, jazz music slows down, maybe some subtle references to the “future” Tower of Terror story start appearing around the resort.

Honestly I think this could end up being one of the coolest resorts on property if Imagineering really committed to the atmosphere. Would you stay there, or would it feel too weird sleeping in a future haunted hotel?
