Does anyone feel discouraged?

I’m curious if anyone else hits this wall with tarot.
I love tarot, and I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but sometimes I’ll watch people who have been reading for YEARS and they still seem uncertain or like they’re just interpreting vibes. Then I wonder… am I actually learning a system, or am I just getting better at convincing myself something fits?

Some days a reading feels eerily accurate and meaningful, and other days I pull cards and my brain is like “you could make literally any card apply to anything if you tried hard enough.”

I guess the discouraging part is wanting to trust my intuition while also not wanting to lie to myself.
Did anyone else go through a phase where they questioned whether they were actually improving? What made tarot finally “click” for you? Some support or words of encouragement would be HIGHLY appreciated.

The Beauty of Deck Interviews - A Meaningful Exercise in Tarot Practice

Over a decade of intuitive tarot practice, I have bought, swapped, and discarded many deck. My collection has now slimmed to six decks. and i do have a wishlist fof a couple more that I would like to buy at some point.

With time, I developed my own system of working with decks, either singularly or multiple in one reading. For three years, I used light seers for practical matters and career readings, shadowscapes for shadowwork, RWS when I didn't feel called to a particular deck, etc. Sometimes, I would use decks in combination, a different deck for each row of cards or themartically organise qs and choose a different tarot or oracle deck for each sub theme in a reading.

In the past year, I've used oracles more than tarot. I just couldn't vibe with my decks anymore, no matter how many times I cleansed and recharged them. Something just fell off. I also had tarot decks I had sparingly used in that collection. I loved all my decks and was quite sad taht I wasn't able to use them for anything apart from aesthetics and room decor.

On a whim, I made a Reddit post asking about how to connect with a certain deck. And a few folks suggested I interview my decks. So that's what I did in the past week. That's when things fell back into place again! Each of my deck had its own niche personality, voice, area it would work best in, strengths, and limitations. no overlaps, no redundancy. Two of my decks wanted a dialogue rather than being used as predictions. Actually, none of my decks wanted to predict. They were clear they could not bring me certainty or offer me emotional support/comfort.

It was a fruitful exercise. My tarot slump or reader's block is gone. It was like meeting my decks for a second time. The first was when I intuitively or logically decided who I would go for what. And now the second, when I took the time and efforts to actually listen to them and ask them how to work with them.

There are different schools of thought in tarot. some says its just a shiny piece of cardboard for entertainment, some treat it as an inanimate unconscious tool, some say it can divine (predict) the future, others say 'cards are just cards.'. In my experience, and through this exercise too, tarot is surely a tool, but it is definitely a conscious one. It's not 'just a piece of cardboard for entertainment.' It has its own language, aliveness, and consciousness. I had forgotten that over time as I drowned in history, techniques, and intellectual discussion.

________________________________________________________________________________________________

Deck Interview Spread

  • What would you like me to know about you?
  • What are your strengths as a deck?
  • What are your limits as a deck?
  • What are you trying to teach me?
  • How can I best learn from and collaborate with you?
  • What is the potential outcome of our working relationship?
  • What will we be working on together?
  • Who / what will be speaking to me through this deck?
  • What aspects/areas of me/my life are you going to be working on with me?

Is using tarot cards a sin?

Hey so Im new to all of this and I need a second opinion.

I asked whether its a sin because I still pray and believe in God, however I dont consider myself part of any particular religion (personal reasons).

I dont wanna sin and I dont want to be involved in any witchcraft. However I would really like to try tarot cards out of fun and for self growth and reflection.

I dont wanna attract any spirtis or anything like that, Im not even sure whether I entirely believe in that anyway. Ive heard of stories about tarot cards being dangerous etc, which is what makes me feel uneasy about getting them.

Ive come across a few christian pages on here stating how dangerous and sinful they are which makes me wonder whether getting them is the right decision, they do have those star symbols on them which are satanic symbols if Im not wrong which is also something I dont wanna engage in.

Anyone who can advise me on this?

Is it really bad?

So i recently watched a Korean Survival Show called "Battle Of The Fates" (10/10 show, would recommended) it included tarot reading. Now after that, it sparked my curiosity on tarot reading and now its done. And recently had a dream about tarot reading. (If curious let me know and I'll do an edit explaining it).

I've always believed on spirit and how everyone has a good or bad soul. I've personally point out people who gave me a bad vibe and it always turned put of the correct.

Example: i had a teacher that gave me a creepy vibe the moment I saw him. I felt uncomfortable around him and just something didn't felt right about him. After some time he stopped coming to class for months and later find out he got fired for inappropriate activities with females students.

When I told my mom she said no cuz a lot of bad things might happen to me if I try, like a broken relationship, unhealthy health, and etc. But my aunt its a big believer in this and even goes to someone almost weekly or monthly to do her a reading.

I haven't bought a pack yet cuz I dont know where to buy it or what deck to buy and so on. So I'm wondering, is it okay for me to do it? To even try? Would something bad happen if I don't a small reading? I dont want to use it for any bad stuff. I just want to try and help people and find the truth about things.

Dark night of the soul

For decades, the tarot has been part of my life. I'd shuffle the cards, lay them out, and something would click. They helped me see myself from a different angle.

These days I mostly write about the tarot and hardly ever read for myself. It's odd because I miss the dialogue, yet I don't pick up any of my decks. I'd much rather watch some anime.

I've been a nurse for more than 35 years, so I've seen enough life, death, grief and joy to last a lifetime. My emotional world has become very clear. I know what I feel, and I know what I don't.

The louder someone cries, the more I take a step back. Honesty reaches me more than emotional display. I care deeply about my patients, but I've stopped confusing intensity with truth.

I sometimes wonder if something similar has happened with the tarot. Because the tarot hasn't stopped speaking. It's just that something in me has stopped asking.

Did I absorb what tarot had to teach me? Has that conversation simply come to its natural end?

If this happened to you, what happens next?

Helpful tips for new tarot readers

Hi, everyone! For context, I’ve had my current tarot for about 2.5 years and was excited within the first few months of having them. Then life got in the way and they eventually ended up in storage and i never really got to practice as much as I wanted to. Now I’m in a more established living situation and that spark to learn tarot has reignited. I’ve brought my deck back out and my crystals and I was curious if anyone had any helpful tips for cleansing your deck, history books about the origin of tarot, how to tap into energies before a reading, etc. This is something I really enjoy and it’s something I want to nurture. Anything helps! Thanks!

Beginner here: Tarot keeps giving me the same answer, but reality says otherwise

Hi everyone! I’m a beginner with tarot and I’m looking for some advice from more experienced readers.

I’ve been practicing by reading about a specific person and their intentions toward me. The confusing part is that every time I ask about their intentions, I keep getting very similar messages. However, their actual actions in real life seem to completely contradict what the cards are saying.

As a beginner, I’m struggling to know what to trust. Should I believe the repeated message from the cards, or should I take their actions at face value? Is this something that happens often when you’re learning tarot, or could I be interpreting the cards through wishful thinking without realizing it?

I’d really appreciate any insight or advice from people who’ve experienced something similar. Thank you!

How to start learning the tarot [part 2]

Now that you know how to start, here’s a 5-minute crash course in tarot that will let you do a simple reading immediately.

A tarot deck has 78 cards:

Major Arcana (22 cards)

Big themes, life lessons, major events.

Examples:

  • The Fool = new beginnings, leaps of faith
  • The Magician = action, skill, manifestation
  • The Lovers = relationships, choices, alignment
  • Death = transformation, endings leading to beginnings
  • The World = completion, fulfillment

Minor Arcana (56 cards)

Everyday situations.

Four suits:

Suit Element Keywords
Wands Fire passion, creativity, action
Cups Water emotions, relationships
Swords Air thoughts, conflict, decisions
Pentacles Earth money, work, practical matters

Each suit has:

Number Theme
Ace beginning
2 choice, balance
3 growth
4 stability
5 conflict, change
6 harmony
7 challenge
8 movement, power
9 nearing completion
10 ending, fulfillment

Example:

  • Five of Cups = emotional disappointment
  • Five of Pentacles = material hardship
  • Five of Wands = conflict or competition

Same number, different life area.

How to read a card

Ask what is the picture trying to tell you?

Then combine:

  1. Traditional meaning
  2. Your immediate impression
  3. The question you asked

Example:

Three of Swords

  • Traditional: heartbreak, disappointment
  • Your impression: storm clouds, pain
  • Question: "How will this project go?"

Possible interpretation:

There may be a setback or uncomfortable truth to face.

Card Core Keywords
Page student, beginner, messenger, curiosity
Knight action, pursuit, movement, mission
Queen mastery of the inner world, nurturing, influence
King mastery of the outer world, leadership, authority
Suit Keywords
Wands passion, creativity, ambition
Cups emotions, relationships, intuition
Swords intellect, truth, communication
Pentacles work, money, practicality

Court cards

  • Page: learning
  • Knight: pursuing
  • Queen: embodying
  • King: mastering

Suits

  • Wands: I create
  • Cups: I feel
  • Swords: I think
  • Pentacles: I build

Examples:

  • Queen of Cups = embodying feelings → empathy, intuition, compassion
  • Knight of Swords = pursuing ideas → speed, directness, determination
  • King of Pentacles = mastering the material world → success, stability, stewardship

This gives you a compact system for recalling all 16 court cards from first principles.

Reversed cards (optional)

When a card appears upside down, many readers interpret it as:

  • blocked energy
  • internal energy
  • delay
  • opposite tendency

Example:

  • Upright: confidence
  • Reversed: self-doubt

You can ignore reversals while learning.

Happy readings, y'all 🧡

Tempest Tarot

I got the Tempest Tarot two years ago because I felt called towards it - both the cards themselves and even its back design. I... I don't know what to use it for... or how to start using it / build a relationship with it. (And no, this deck isn't based on Shakespeare's Tempest, otherwise it would have been ridiculously easy to connect with and use it.)

https://preview.redd.it/1jsdpvjxjk9h1.jpg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81b088dad67d2c1bb05ca6d50ee29ff12aa2f39d

I love the deck. I'm not ready to part ways with it. But I have multiple decks with each having their own purpose. Shadowscapes for shadow work; Light Seers for career, finance, and any kind of practical, moving ahead stuff; RWS when I don't feel called towards anything or when the situation is very complicated; Soul Sparkles is reserved to read for specific people or spiritual stuff; etc. I use Thoth when I feel like it but haven't used it much. And I have DreamyMoon's decks, both light and dark, but I haven't even opened it yet.

The Tempest Tarot is calling out to me very very loudly. I can't keep my hands off the box. But Idk what to do with it or how to use it. I keep it in my bag and carry with it everywhere but I haven't done a single reading using it whether that be for myself or others. I just look at the cards and keep staring at the beautiful artwork in some cards, especially the Moon, Hierophant, Star, 4 of cups, Empress, Queen of Swords, 6 of swords, High Priestess, Sun, World, page of wands....to name a few.... This is the only deck whose Hanged Man I do not dislike. The Knight of Wands in this deck is unlike anything I've seen. It gives a very different vibe from the standard KoW in RWS or other decks.

Has anyone used this deck? What worked for you? what did not? what do I do with this deck? how do I begin?

any suggestions, idea, resources, etc are welcomed.

Why are some tarot decks obsessed with some cards? Have you faced the same?

A lot of readers experience stalker cards, but this one is different. When I use certain decks, there are always some cards that would show up again and again while some cards are super rare to show up in the particular deck.. I just interpret it as cards are super selective about situations and would not show up unless the situation is reciprocating heavy energy of that card.
