Anyone recently traveled and know if the carry-on sizer is still around 9-10 inches in depth even though their requirements say max depth size can be 7.8 inches?

We are traveling as a family of 4 people.

We have recently bought 3 new carry-ons with the sizes 49x35x16 cm (19.2 x 13.8 x 6.3 inches). All these fit the requirements from IcelandAir which is 21.6 x 15.7 x 7.8 inches.

For the last person we have another carry-on which is the soft type and the measurements are 19 x 14 x 8.6 inches). So the last one is basically 0.8 inches too deep.

I checked online and saw some posts from a couple of years ago where people have measured the sizer to be 9-10 inches in depth. And I’ve seen people mention their 9 inches depth case to fit perfectly.

I was just wondering if anyone in here recently had their carry-ons put into the sizer and can confirm that the sizer is STILL a bit bigger than the 7.8 inches they mention?

Just to be clear. I’m not asking if I’m gonna be okay. It’s a gambling game. Either you follow the rules or you can expect to pay if you are unlucky.

But in the end we are talking about 0.8 inches and if the sizer is indeed 1.5 - 2 inches deeper like people claim I won’t have a problem bringing this soft case.

Flight EWR (NY) - KEF - CDG

Hey guys I travel Saturday night from Newark to Paris with a layover of 1hr 25 min at KEF. Just wanted to know if anyone has done that trip recently.
Has it been on time? How is migration line for connections? Have you departed KEF on time as well?

Thanks!!

Positive experience

I feel I read some terrible things about Icelandair before and I was soooo nervous. Flew with them yesterday from DC Dulles to Heathrow and here is my honest review.

Food

Indeed you do not get any but tbh this was for me a good thing, because it meant that I basically had dinner at the airport, boarded and slept, while I find usually it takes about an hour for them to serve food, and then they wake you at like 4 am for give you more, which is like 2 am US time and you are far from hungry. I packed a sandwich and some camomile tea bag and they provided loads of hot water and coffee in my second flight.

Luggage

This is what I was the most nervous about and decided to risk it using the one small carry on I own which would only really be under 8 inches thick if I compressed it but it fit fine and they let me check in for free so added extra stuff and was waitng for me in London.

Seats

There were actually pretty spacious, had aisle both times, from DC to Iceland it was a 3-3 and from Iceland to London a 2-3-2, we were even given blankets and pillows in the first leg. Honestly despite it being a small plane for the first leg it was more confortable than United.

Timeliness

This is the lowest score since both flights were delayed, first one we boarded about 30 mins late and second one we ended up stranded in the tarmac for an hour. Thankfully, despite having only an hour for my conection I made it fine, as there is no passport control since no Schengen and terminal D is small. But hey last time I flew United to Paris they just cancelled my flight so this was way better!

Connection

Well in both cases bor uboarding and boarding a bus and stairs were used which is a bit weird, this meant I was hardly any time in the actual airport

Total

Overall I would say that comparing it to British Airways or United it was a confortable flight in what matters but of course they do not give anything, as longas you don't mind brining your own food or purchasing it, I woudl recommend it and definetly fly again if the price is way lower (difference for a one way flight was 350 USD), flying direct on way back as difference was 50 USD.

Carry on bags Icelandair

Does anyone have experience with carry-on's flying Icelandair? I was really hoping not to check my backpack for fear of it not making it to Chamonix, but the sizes restrictions are making me nervous. I'm within the weight restriction, but my bag dimensions are 22.8" X 13.4" X 13" and my partner's are 25.2" X 13.4 X 11 and on the Icelandair website it states that the dimensions are restricted to 21.6" X 15.7" X 7.8" Is this something to worry about?

Stolen Back Pack

Hello! Myself and a few friends are in town (as I’m sure you can guess) for the eclipse and to explore this incredible country! An immense amount of time
and effort has been made to scrounge up the money and time to be here.

Unfortunately, while camped near Hallgrimskirkja from the 11th-12th, my book bag was taken from
the front seat of the camper while we were asleep inside. (don’t ask why the doors weren’t locked.. lesson learned!)

I emailed the police department and will call in the morning. We also looked in garbages and bushes, etc, around the area.

Though nothing was particularly valuable, many things were extremely important to me. Inside were a blue checkered back containing my glasses, contacts amongst other toilet tree and makeup essentials. My glasses are costly to replace.

A box with jewelry I made from an assortment of sentimental beads. As well as copper wire, beads and jewelry tools.

Pink JBL headphones and other miscellaneous items.

This could have been so much worse, and I am so so grateful that I’ve kept my documents and other vital items on me at all times.

This country is incredible and I’m so so happy to be here! I would just love to have these items back before I return home.

Denied EU 261 compensation. Legal insurance taking action now

Long story short: Flight Zurich > KEF cancelled 9 hours before departure (1st June). We did not accept the proposed flight 24h later as it would have made our 2 weeks trip in Iceland difficult (everything was booked in advance). We took an other airline with a better flight for us. We claimed 400€/passenger under EU 261: Icelandair refused because we did not accepted the proposed flight and they concluded that doing so, we were not anymore in a contract relationship with them (crazy!). Just passed the case to a specialized Swiss law firm. They are not even assuming their legal obligations. Tired of this airlines

Differing Saga upgrade minimums

My husband and I are flying the same Iceland Air route on the same date but have different minimum bids for a Saga upgrade ($283 vs $330 for one way and $250 vs $330 for the other). We booked our tickets separately. Any idea why we’d have different minimum bids?

Upgrading to business class

We bid for an upgrade and were informed when checking in that we didn’t get it. When we boarded the plane there were three empty businesses class seats. The flight attendants said they were not booked. When we bid we picked the “good” bid. Does Iceland Air pass over bids for reasons other than being outbid by another customer?

Will 9" depth bags fit in their carry on check at Sea-Tac/USA

We have a flight to Europe coming in this week and all 4 of our carry-ons are US small size carry-ons, like AWAY, Level8 standard etc. That means about 9" depth. We travel light and went to Europe twice before with just carry-ons but first time will be using Iceland Air. These bags did fit perfectly on Air-Canada carry-on checks (we were checked on our way to Japan) but not sure if these are going to fit on Icelandair.

Anyone recently traveled from US can confirm their bags were checked for size and 9" depth will be ok?

Passport Validity Confirmation

I am flying Icelandair from Pittsburgh to Munich via KEF on August 26th and returning on a separate ticket on September 11th.

My passport expires February 20th, 2027 and I originally thought I was fine to travel based on numerous guidance (including from icelandair) that says for Schengen Area I only need at least 3 months on my passport after my departure date from Europe. However lately I have seen posts of certain airlines arbitrarily enforcing a 6-month validity at the gate.

I wanted to see if anyone in a similar situation has had success or a problem going into Schengen Area with icelandair while passport was expiring 3-6 months from EU departure? My passport renewal options are pretty limited at this point and am hoping for peace of mind.
