IcelandAir permanently lost our luggage. Any advice on finding a human to help file a reimbursement claim?

Not permanent IcelandAir employees, who were all super professional and nice onboard. Instead, contractors working for IcelandAir at the counter at BWI were 100% rude and appear to have been responsible for permanently losing our suitcase. They forced us to check it in - not gate check, but immediately at the counter - although it was a purposely very small carry on suitcase that fit in their sizer. Filed a lost luggage claim at airport upon arrival in Iceland, the Icelanders there were responsive via email for the 2 weeks we were in Iceland with no luggage (thank you IcelandCover, too). Now that we need to be remunerated, it has been impossible to get a human to help us file our reimbursement claim; the online system keeps looping us back to filing a lost luggage claim. Any helpful suggestions?

Eligibility for a (partial) compensation

I’m curious whether I have some grounds for a partial compensation claim regarding a missed connecting flight.

Our flight from London to Reykjavik was delayed due to bad weather (ineligible for compensation, I know) and we were redirected to Akureyri airport. However, the delay was exacerbated by the fact we couldn’t leave the airplane for several hours as they had to call in border agents (hooray Brexit) and we didn’t leave the airport back to Reykjavik as we had to wait for a new flight crew to come in.

Is there a possibility to claim (partial) compensation for delays due to crew availability?

Horrible staff on Iceland air

Just flew to Iceland with Iceland air, the the staff were by far the rudest I have ever experienced. I bought a tiny suitcase specifically for this airline bc I had heard they cause issues with carry on bags, and they still caused an insane amount of trouble. They started yelling at me when I was boarding the plane to check my carry on because it was “too big” even though it clearly fit the size requirement and all the other passengers had bigger bags than me. I told them I could show that it fit within their requirements and easily placed the bag within the carry on restriction display, but the staff refused to even look at it and just continued making aggressive comments. They told me that if I don’t check in my bag, they’ll call security and get me thrown out of the airport. Every other passenger had much larger bags and was allowed to pass, it felt extremely racially motivated. Then I told them that I already paid for my carry on, and if they wanted to check it in instead even tho it was the correct size, I shouldn’t have to pay for it again. This made them call airport security on me, the security came and heard the situation and told them that I was being perfectly reasonable and they wouldn’t kick me out of the airport because I wasn’t being rude or breaking any rules. Nothing changed their mind, other passengers kept walking in with larger bags, and they literally made me apologize to every single staff member (even those I hadn’t spoken to) before letting me board the plane. Genuinely the worst experience I’ve ever had in my entire life, completely ruined that day of my trip and it was extremely humiliating. I’d heard horror stories like this abt the airline but didn’t think I’d actually experience it myself. What’s the best way to go about filing a complaint to make sure this is known and the people involved are spoken to by admin? I don’t want them to keep doing this to other customers and going on random power trips. Will never touch this Arline again

Kids box on Iceland air

When I was trying to look it up, I couldn’t find anything conclusive, so thought I’d share what we received in our kids box for kids under 12. Our son is 4. They always brought be boxes out just before cabin service.

YVR-KEF - evening flight. Ham and cheese sandwich, iogo yogurt, Oreo cookie. This was the real box winner - we had packed a sandwich for my son for this flight, but he only wanted the ham and cheese from the box. No juice etc provided, but he’s always good with water.

KEF-CPH - Huge apple juice box (250ml!!!), cheese pita type “sandwich” - but it’s more like a slice of cheese in a different tasting Roti is the best way to describe it. My son did not like it. It also had a small box of pencil crayons and a post card.

CPH-KEF - Happy monkey (or something like that), strawberry banana “smoothie” in a tetra pack type packaging. Very large again(250ml?), a delicious soft pizza bun, it too had a small box of pencil crayons and post card.

KEF-YVR - same as KEF to cph-Huge apple juice box (250ml) cheese pita type “sandwich” - but it’s more like a slice of cheese in a different tasting Roti is the best way to describe it. My son did not like it. It also had a small box of pencil crayons and a post card.

We never did get a stuffed animal like previously mentioned on their website, and my son says the pencil crayons are hard to color with - but I’m not complaining for complimentary items! Ha.

Also, they offer all kids a pair of wired headsets when coming on board. We never took them as we loaded a cheap tablet with videos, and used his Bluetooth headphones, but we noticed a lot of parents using them instead- so take them for yourself if you need wired ones, and your kid has their own already!

And last absolute protip I read on here previously - make sure you sign up for your saga club and have the number in the itinerary. We earned enough points on the way to cph to use on food and snacks on the way home

Hope this helps some families out there!

Do the prices of check-in luggage drop when closer to the flight date or is it always the same price?

We are traveling 4 people for a week and only have handbags which gives us a total of 40 kg.

It’s usually more than enough for us but I was just wondering if Icelandair ever drops their prices for check-in bags or if it’s the same price all the time? I can see that it’s a total of 180 dollars including return flight.

Are the last rows reclinable?

BWI to KEF, Boeing 737 Max 9. Flying w/ wife and daughter. We were assigned the last row (31), presumably bc it was the only available w/o extra fee w/ all 3 open.

Are these non-reclining seats? I know that is common on many 737s.

Will I be able to make it? Also, why does it say "booking not supported"?

(IcelandAir) I fly out of Barcelona to Baltimore, MD with two layovers (one that's only 50 minutes long). Will they accommodate me (wait a bit longer, let me out of the airplane first) so I can catch the connecting flight?

Also, why does it say that "booking not supported" when I try to check in online? Do I have to do it at the airport? Thanks!

carry-on bags restrictions

i’ll be traveling to iceland from portland next week, and i just realized my carry-on will exceed the restriction that icelandair stated on its website if the wheels are included. does anyone have similar experience before and how you deal with that?

Do you guys prefer economy or economy light? And when you book for several people at once, can you mix ticket types (economy, economy light and so on?)

I’m flying from Denmark to New York with Icelandair soon. We’re 4 people traveling together, a dad and 3 brothers and we booked Economy Light with only carry-on baggage (10 kg each).

Since we’re only traveling for 8 days, carry-on is honestly more than enough for us. We’ve done similar trips to other countries before with one carry-on per person, and it has never really been a problem. Realistically, we could probably fit most of our clothes into just 2 of the carry-ons, which would leave us with 2 almost empty bags for anything we might bring back home.

With 4 carry-ons we have 40 kg total, which is more than enough.

What I was wondering about is the booking system. When I booked the tickets, it looked like I could only add checked baggage for all 4 passengers at the same time — not for just one person. I might have missed something, but is that actually how Icelandair works?

Also, is it possible to mix ticket types in the same booking? For example, 1 person with Economy Standard and the other 3 with Economy Light?

Of course, we could have booked separately (1 person first and then the other 3), but since we don’t really need a checked bag anyway, it was mostly just if we could get one at a reasonable price.

Right now it looks like adding one checked bag roundtrip would cost around $180 total, and I’m not paying that of course.

How non-refundable is non-refundable?

Dates for our family trip in September have changed and my 80 year old dad went online to change the dates. HOWEVER, instead of modifying his reservation, he cancelled it and rebooked!

He called the airline since he booked with them and was told all they could do was put in a claim and he would hear from them in 6-8 weeks.

First set of tix was $2000 and second set was $2500. YIKES!

I'm gutted for him-it's a lot of money to potentially lose.

Personal item weight

I'm doing a one-way flight to KEF as part of a larger trip. (It's so frustrating having to make all of my packing decisions around that 1 2 hour flight.) Anyway, I know the weight limit for the carry on is 22 pounds. Do they also weigh the personal item? The bag I got should fit the bin with a squish (.1 inch too wide) but I've read mixed things about the weight of the personal item. What's your experience?

I bought a flight super far in advance (for December) from Icelandair from Rome -> the U.S.

Unfortunately due to a lot of big changes in my life currently and added financial burdens, I am looking to make the decision of not going to Italy anymore. I booked through booking.com and looked at my flight (I bought my tickets there and back separately) my flight says it’s non-refundable and no changes can be made to my reservation.

Is there anything I can do AT ALL to get a refund or travel credit with icelandair? Or should I call booking.com?

I’m a college student and this flight was expensive, so I’m trying to think of any possible solution. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

1.5 hour layover in KEF from Copenhagen to New York. Is that enough time for the passport control and then to my New York gate?

Im going from Copenhagen, Denmark to New York, USA with a 1.5 hour layover in KEF and I was wondering if it’s enough time?

Since I’m gonna leave a Schengen country it’s means that I will go trough passport control as I understand but I’ve heard there are long lines for passport control, so now I’m a bit unsure if the 1.5 hour is enough to land in KEF, leave the plane, get through passport control and then to my gate

Layover Question

My husband and I are flying from Boston to Gatwick in 2 weeks, with a 90 minute layover in Keflavik. Since we won’t have to worry about Shengen, I’m assuming there won’t be anything we need to worry about regarding delays of any sort with border control, correct?

We did a similar flight to Paris almost 2 decades ago for our honeymoon and all I can remember is being groggy af, trying to be nice the border person and them not having any of my niceities. I can be overly nice and it was just before sunrise, so I’m not in the least bothered by their lack of responsiveness to my niceness. Lots of folks cannot stomach cheery people in the morning, especially around sunrise.

Price drop but economy light ticket

So, I booked a ticket about a month ago for a quick trip to Europe for a birthday party. A friend now booked the exact same flight today for $500 less (also directly through their site). Is there anything I can do to get a potential refund / travel credit / ... (ticket class is non refundable : (
