If you were to receive as much help as you need, and the only requirement is to accept that the outcome and rewards are in your hands, why are you not starting yet?

Hello everyone. I saw so many Malagasy freelancer having hard time starting or keeping up after a while.
At first, I thought the issue was the mentality, and sure enough this is the hardest wall to overcome.

Yet, I realized that even with the right mindset, most people will still quit. And the biggest reason is a lack of structure: time/cost management. You can find so many content online talking about how to get rich with a 0$/€ budget but let's be real, just paying for electricity and Wifi is an investment since you consume both time and money for that.

With all of that, I decided that I would propose completely free content and help for freelancer to earn money consistantly and making sure they understand it is neither an easy road nor a fast one. But this road is a real job and should be treated like one, with dedication, discipline and improvement.

And even after all that, I had to face the same wall: most people just quit for whatever reason.

So I need honest opinions:

-If you have free help, no hidden fees, would you feel it is not enough?
-You get constant help and have the opportunity to give feedbacks to help others that are sharing the same struggles, would you stay silent?
-The main strategy revolving around all of this is to help each other because the place freelancers need to earn money also allows for other freelancer to get paid for sharing your work, thus resulting in a win-win situation, would you not put in some efforts?

Let's build a team!

[Mod Approved] I made the Rova Manjakamiadana in Minecraft as the crowning achievement to my efforts to make at least ONE Vtuber from Madagascar appear in top search results!

Vtubers are content creators that use a virtual avatar to represent themselves. It's a niche closely tied to otaku and gaming culture.

I had searched for other Vtubers from Madagascar but only got irrelevant results, so I decided to try and remedy that.

I built a local travel website for my hometown in Madagascar. Would you trust it as a traveler?

Hi everyone,

I’m from Madagascar and I recently finished my Master’s in Globalization and Sustainable Tourism.

I’m now working on a small idea in Antananarivo, the city where I grew up: a local travel website for visitors who want to discover Tana with someone from here, beyond the usual postcard version.

I’m not a developer. I only have basic programming knowledge, so I’m learning as I go and trying to make the website clear, trustworthy, and easy to use.

I’m still at the early stage, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback from a traveler’s point of view.

Website: https://madalo-travel.com

A few things I’d love to know:

Would you trust this website enough to contact a local guide?
Is the booking flow clear?
Does the page feel human and reliable?
Is anything confusing, too long, or missing?
If you were visiting Antananarivo for the first time, what would you want to see or avoid?

I’m not trying to sell aggressively here. I’m just trying to improve the website and understand what travelers actually look for before I take the project further.

Thank you.

Madagascar itinerary advice for solo female traveler

Looking for:
-votes of confidence or criticism on my itinerary
-advice on how it works at national parks-you just roll up and hire a guide at the park headquarters? Or do I check into a hotel and let them arrange guides for hikes, nature walks, etc.
-hotel suggestions, perhaps places with a social atmosphere where I can meet other travelers.
-language advice or warnings-I can read basic French and speak like a toddler (remnants of 4 years of study in high school)…I’m definitely planning to make an effort, and will try to learn some Malagasy, to make people smile, but how widespread is English, along this typical tourist route?

Day 1-fly to Nosy Be
2-5 Nosy Be (diving, anything else recommended to do there? Best specific dive sites to see?)
Day 6- Fly to TNR, explore & stay in Tana (safest area to be a woman walking around alone?)

Then hire a driver for the rest: (any tips for finding one that won’t get weird and ask if im married?)

Day 7-pick up in Tana, stop at Peyrieras. Continue to Andasibe, drop at hotel. Night walk?
8-(Andasibe guided activities-any in particular?)
9-pick up in Andasibe, drive to Antsirabe, drop at hotel.
10-pick up in Antisirabe, drive to Ramomafdana, drop at hotel
11-(Ramomafana guided activities-suggestions?)
12-pick up in Ramomafana, stop in Fianarantsoa. Continue to Anja, drop at hotel in/near Anja
13-pick up near Anja, drive to Isalo, drop at hotel.
14- (Isalo guided activities-hiking to the pools)
15-pick up in Isalo, stop at Zombitse. Continue to Toliara, drop off at hotel.
16,17-toliara
From there fly back to Tana.

Thanks so much! merci! Misaotra!

If you were moving to Madagascar again, what would you do differently?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice from expats and locals living in Madagascar.

I may possibly be preparing for a move within the next few months and I’m trying to think ahead. I’ve been living in Europe for a couple of years and would be moving with a young family.

For people who have relocated to Madagascar, what are some things you wish you had done, organized, bought, stocked up on, or put in place before arriving?

I’m thinking beyond the obvious things like paperwork and visas more practical everyday things (household items, health, kids/family life, shopping, food, home setup, technology, routines, etc.).

Are there things you later realized were difficult to find locally, unexpectedly expensive, or things that simply made life much easier?

Also interested in the “I wish someone had told me this before I moved” type of advice.

Thanks!

Dating

I went on holiday to Madagascar years ago and found the women some of the most beautiful and gentle I had ever come across. I have been keen on dating someone from there since but I’m based in the UK. Are there dating sites that are popular with young women in Madagascar? I apologise if this is inappropriate.

Morondava tour in September

Hi everyone, 👋🏽

I’m planning a trip to Madagascar from September 10 to September 22 and would like to spend a few days up to 1 week in/around Morondava (mainly to visit the Avenue of the Baobabs), with the rest of the trip spent in Tana.

I'm Malagasy and spent most of my life in Tana before moving abroad, but I never really traveled much around the country. Growing up, I heard a lot of stories about dahalo/insecurity in some regions, so I wanted to ask people who’ve done this trip more recently:

- Is it doable to travel to Morondava for 1 week or less? How many days would you recommend?

- Is September generally a good and safe time to visit that area?

- Would adding Tsingy be realistic within that timeframe, or would it make the trip too rushed?

- Any nearby places worth adding for a short trip?

- Are there any tour guides you’d recommend?

I’m trying to keep the trip relatively balanced since most of the rest of the stay will be spent in Tana with my family.

Thanks!

Affordable group tours

Hey all,

I’m looking at intrepid/g adventures etc and checked out some companies mentioned on other posts here but they’re all crazy expensive. I’m looking for around 10-14 days but every tour company seems excessively expensive ($4k AUD just seems crazy to me for what they’re offering) or can anyone recommend a local company I can get in touch with?

Thank you!

EDIT: I want to join a group, like what intrepid offer, not do it solo with a guide

Drone Laws in Madagascar

I’ll be visiting Madagascar as a tourist, I read about drone laws and how much they are prohibited, it’s also tells me there is a high chance of it being taken off me at the airport. What would the beautiful people on Reddit advise me to do?

Anyone looking to split a last-minute 3 week tour of Madagascar?

Unlikely but.... I decided to make a trip to Madagascar, I booked flights last week and have a great itinerary with Dodi's from May 24 (arrive) to June 14 (flying out). I got several quotes and this was one of the cheapest, also most expansive. It's still $$$, so just in case anyone is looking to share a trip, please let me know. I am decently social, but also not looking for a new BFF, if you prefer to make a solo trip, but with another person 😆

FAREWELL TO THE GIANT: THE END OF TSITAKAKANTSA 🌳💔

From the post of Ciryl Cornu

> It is with deep sadness that I see confirmed what I feared and was already writing in October 2025. Tsitakakantsa, the largest baobab ever recorded and measured in Madagascar, is in the process of fading away. A photograph taken this month immediately alerted me. I am sharing the link to the post. Furthermore, my assistant Wilfred Ramahafaly has just had this information confirmed by the village chief. 😞

> The giant has just lost one of its primary branches, a characteristic sign of imminent collapse in these millennial specimens. This is unfortunately the first stage of a progressive death: these colossi do not die all at once, they fragment before returning to the earth. Within two to three years, nothing will remain of this monument of nature, a fantastic being that will have crossed centuries. 🌳⌛

> A devastating loss for biodiversity and Malagasy heritage.

Consultation for a novel

Hi everyone,

I'm writing a novel set in an alternative-history version of Madagascar. The story involves colonialism, but it's mainly focused on personal lives and relationships rather than geopolitics alone.

Because of the subject matter, I realized it would be easy to write something that feels insensitive, shallow, or too focused on generalized ideas of colonialism instead of Malagasy realities and perspectives. I don't want Malagasy culture to become just an exotic or poorly researched backdrop.

I'm looking for people who would be willing to talk with me, answer occasional questions, or possibly review some project notes and point out things that feel inaccurate, stereotypical, or off.

If you're interested in/studying literature, history, culture, or storytelling, or know someone who is, feel free to message me. I'm especially interested in honest criticism.

While I'll be talking to the interested via private messages and outside reddit, feel free to leave general pointers in this thread.

Have a great day everyone!

Planning to visit

Hey, I'm Spanish and I always wanted to visit Madagascar. I'll travel for work to South Africa in September and could be the only time that would be closer to take a flight to there. Some people are reluctant to my idea and I don't know the language nor French. I don't want to pay a travel agency for me to take me to the main places as it is very expensive. It's worthwhile to plan a trip on my own? Would be risky? Would I be able to communicate with people in some sort of English or very basic dummy French? Do you know a group of Spanish speaking people that may provide help or guided tours there? Any suggestions will be really appreciated Thank you in advance :)

Antananarivo Airport: Sim Card retailers open arround 20-21 when I arrive?

Hi there,
I am going to Madagascar soon on the 22 may, according to my travel plan, I will arrive there around 20:00-21:00. Because my phone does model does not allow E-Simcards, I have to get a physical card.

I know based on information you can buy sim cards at the airport either from Telma or Orange. But I because I want to be bit prepared, I am asking if those stands at the airport are open at those hours. I assume they are not open there.

Off the beaten path in Isalo: My 3 "hidden gems" to avoid the crowds 🇲🇬

Hi there! Tired of seeing Isalo only through crowded tourist groups? Here are 3 tips to experience the massif differently:

1️⃣ The Canyon des Rats: Much wilder and more impressive than the Canyon des Singes. You truly feel the vastness of the landscape here, all by yourself.

2️⃣ The Ridge for sunset: Forget the long lines at the "Window." The view from the ridges is far more grandiose and peaceful.

3️⃣ The Black Pool (Piscine Noire): Less famous than the natural pool, its water is incredibly refreshing after a long hike.

I’ve compiled all my secret spots like these into a small guide to help travelers.

Any questions about Isalo or need some advice? Ask me here, I’d be happy to help! ✨
