Termites, roaches, or mice?

Hi everyone!

Can anyone please help me identify this. There’s tons of it throughout one 3rd story bedroom. The house is has a ton of moisture damage, mold, etc. Located in New Orleans, Louisiana. A hurricane from a few years caused a bunch of issues and this room has essentially been abandoned.

This black, coffee ground looking stuff is piled up inside two cupboards, as well as on the floorboards throughout the room. I don’t see the typical angular, hexagonal shape of dry wood termite frass has, it seemed to be too concentrated to be mouse poop, and I just can’t tell if it could be roach poop.

Any insight is appreciated!

Technician Scorecards

What metrics do you use to measure technician performance?

I’m trying to find the balance of fair, and accountability.

I know metrics aren’t everything - but at the same time I think they can help people focus in and compete a little on key behaviors. Would love to hear what people use.

Ecolab techs

Had 2 phone interviews and doing an in person tomorrow. Was just wondering what the job is like from others. Will be doing commercial buildings from what I’ve been told. I know it depends on stuff like management and which location. I would be running routes around Dallas I’m assuming

Customers who abuse the system

Those customers that constantly call in for retreats when there's no activity on site. Those customers that do it every spring - summer. It's a pattern, and you know it's coming

  • Improved library with offline downloads
  • Widget for quick location finding/sharing during emergencies or no-signal situations

Would appreciate any feedback.

Rentokil/terminix hiring process

So ive been trying badly to get hired and trained at any company in the industry but they were the only ones to reach out to me. I did an initial phone visit with one of their representatives from india which went well. He tells me he will send me email to book interview with hiring manager. No email received. I try to call the number and cant get through to him. Get another email to do the same phone visit, and when i book it, he doesnt call me and process continues. Been about 3 weeks of being stuck in limbo I am unsure of what to do or if i should just take it as a sign to not attempt to work for them. Any tips or information will help!

Termite Prevention - why don't we see more Boric Acid used?

Boric acid treatment is 100% effective against subterranean termites, and it lasts multiple decades. The treatment is also very inexpensive compared to other options. Given that boric acid is arguably the effective prevention, the cheapest option, and the longest-lasting...... why is this not universally applied to lumber frames? Why do builders choose other treatments at all?

Edit: this question is in regards to termite prevention treatments completed during the build process

Woodrat Living in Kitchen - Utah

One week ago we checked into a rental home in Rural Summit / Woodward Utah right outside of Park City.
Day one we found a rodent had been in our food and kitchen. Day 3 the exterminators caught a woodrat. The last day we were there (a whole week) we noticed a poop right on the air vent right below the table my family played cards at every day and night for a whole week straight. It was definitely fresh poop we must have inhaled.
We shared a kitchen with this thing for 3 days until it was caught. Plus poop on the air vent.
Any serious concerns?

Pest control repair seem legit?

I recently had a pest problem (raccoons) and a pest control company came and completed this as the repair. I’ve never seen a screw through a shingle, is that normal?

I’m now having moisture in my drywall and I suspect this could be the culprit.

I didn’t have the moisture issue before this fix.

Does this look normal and water tight?

Every week my basement fills up with wood bugs. Don't know what to do anymore.

I've been dealing with this for 7 years. Nothing I do seems to matter. It was new construction home and from day one my basement has been polluted with these guys. At one point I had two dehumidifiers running plus the venmar, I spent thousands of dollars on exterminators, that didn't even seem to slow them down. I've taken the drywall off in multiple spots to see if there was any moisture behind the walls, Completely dry. I've sealed the drain holes, siliconed every seam in my windows thinking they were coming in through there. I know that's not a smart idea but I'm at my Wit's end. I've also tried slug bait and diatomaceous eartharound the outside of the house and around the basement. The neighbors must think I'm crazy because I even went in the backwoods and found every dead tree cut it up and burned hoping if I got rid of that. I'd lower their population. I'm willing to try almost anything and any help would be appreciated.

What’s way to get commercial customers

I just started up and am trying to establish a foothold in the pest control world but am having a hard time in residential with many competing companies so wanting to try to gain commercial customers unless it’s easier the other way around

Is this normal for the industry?

I just started in pest control at a big-box corporate company, got done with training a couple months ago. I’m the only pest tech in my regional group. I have 13-14 stops a day that are mostly monthly/bi-monthly upkeep, but of course you get there and they have snakes they want removed, they want you in their attic, all that. Generally it’s 10-11 hours five days a week. Is this just how the industry is or do I have a right to complain?

Nonprofit Accounts

Do you give a discount to nonprofit organizations, specifically food pantries, on their services? Or do you price them like any other commercial account?

Historically, I’ve always provided a discount to nonprofits. The discount amount depends upon the type of facility. At food pantries, I’ve always provided a very discounted service.

I’ve recently had an interaction with a board member at one organization that makes me question whether I should discontinue the discounted pricing.

How do you deal with the annoying peer?

We’ve all got one. Mine came to us after 5 years of working at a big box competitor. Whatever peers he had outside of us spoke highly of him.

Since his arrival, he has abandoned services saying “I don’t know what I’m doing,” boast his own FieldRoutes reviews, seems to be allergic to web removal, customers have said everything from “he doesn’t belong in your industry”, “everyone else is much more detailed than him”, “don’t send him back”, etc.

After picking up after him for the sixth time in a week, I called him and asked if there was anything he needed help with, additional training, if there was anything going on at home, genuine concern. He waited two weeks before telling my branch manager that I confronted him in his face, being aggressive and threatening. Cameras throughout the building will show that’s an absolute lie, nobody talks to him because of his poor quality; I know he’s got at least 1 write up for performance as well (webs).

Branch manager is talking about how he is in a protected class because he’s gay, but myself and 8 others don’t see that, we only see or quality.

I’ve requested mediation, what else can I do?
