I left it operating for about 5-10 seconds without water. Now it makes a loud noise

Machine and grinder came today! Ordered from WLL!
Pictures are before and after.
Hi, today I received a new Profitec Go from a European reseller. This is what it looked like straight out of the box.
After contacting the store, they said they need to contact the manufacturer. They'll likely have to either straighten the tray themselves or get a new one from the manufacturer.
So, I'll have to wait a little longer before I can finally use it 😅
I just installed my single hole steam tip purchased from PapelEspresso. I have NEVER seen the milk in such a powerful vortex while using the 2 whole tip. It made such a huge difference visually and likely in the milk texture too. My latte art was still terrible but it looked closer to the texture I see in YouTube videos and such. We'll see how it does over time but after one drink I'm impressed!
I’m new at using my go, and had previously been gifted bottomless portafilters which I found super intimidating… not forgiving at all if the grind and measurements aren’t perfect. I’m finding a step down portafilter to be a great beginners step!
Just purchased this machine and I’m in the process of dialing in. I’m wondering if it’s normal to see my initial pressure around 9.5 and slowly drop to 9 throughout the course of my shot. I’m going 20g in to 40g out in around 25-30 seconds and the taste is quite balanced. I find that if I grind courser I can get the gauge to read 9 consistently, but the shot time drops below 20 seconds. Is this a common occurrence or should I look to troubleshoot?
Just unboxed my Profitec Go 1.0 purchased from Whole Latte Love. Everything looked great and followed the instructions for first startup (run pump for at least 30 seconds and let boiler come up to temp). I go to pull my first shot and nothing comes out. I figure I ground too fine and choked up the machine. No problem, coarsen up my grind and go again, same thing.
After three attempts, I finally decide to run the pump with no portafilter in and see if water will flow freely. Some water is coming out but not much at all and it takes at least 15 seconds for a few drops to appear. I do some googling and check to see if the tank is fully seated, that seems to be ok. I try to run the pump with the steam wand open, that doesn’t change anything. I take off the shower screen and run it again, still very little water coming out of the small hole.
Is this an issue anyone has experienced before? Do I need to send this unit back to WLL? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It’s getting late here in the states and I’m giving up for the night.
UPDATE: Solved! Did a reset and tried refilling the boiler for a little longer and got water to pump without issue. Thanks to everyone for the help!
I’m in the market for a Go, but i’d prefer to buy used or second hand. Anyone here looking to sell theirs and have a way to ship it (safely)?
Drop comments with pics and price if you are.
I’ve been using the original double basket with 16g, mainly because that seemed to be the commonly recommended dose and I never bothered to change the basket.
A few months ago, I decided to try the manufacturer’s recommended 14g dose instead, and the results honestly surprised me!
The espresso was noticeably easier to dial in and I was getting better extractions.
I didn’t think much of it until a friend suggested we do a head to head test with his larger IMS basket. After trying both, he was pretty quickly convinced that the original basket was producing better espresso and was also easier to dial in.
I know one common argument is that baskets like the original one can increase puck pressure. But I’m not convinced that’s what’s happening here.
My hunch is that not overdosing the basket lets me grind finer, and that’s what’s giving me better extraction and making the original basket easier to dial in.
this is just my experience and I’m sure there are plenty of variables involved. But it made me wonder how many people are simply putting too much coffee in the stock basket because a larger dose is commonly recommended
Hi. I’ve bought this as my first proper machine and have paired it with a Niche Zero. I have to say it’s a great machine, and I’m very pleased with it (the only gripe is that I really don’t understand why there isn’t a dedicated steam button, and getting into the settings menu is really finicky).
My cappuccino’s have been inconsistent so far, and I can’t get the base and milk right for art. Some hits, and some misses. I’m using Rave Coffees ‘The Italian Job’ dark roasted beans, ages their Swiss decaffeinated.
There are two obvious issues that I need to fix. The first is pre-infusion. I’m aiming for a 28 second extraction, and until now I’ve included the pre-infusion (stock 5 second infusion and 5 second pause) in the total time. I think this should be 28 seconds plus the pre-infusion and pause time? Confirmation on that and any advice on the pre-infusion, pause, and extraction times would be great.
The second issue is steaming. The wand has two holes, and I’m struggling with the technique and positioning. Any advice on both those points would be gratefully received. I’m thinking of changing the tip to a single hole, but haven’t looked into what to get yet. But my understanding is that this might be more beginner friendly.
I have a WDT tool, and a puck screen (haven’t started using the latter yet). I haven’t detected any channeling.
Thanks for reading.
EDIT: autocorrect mistake
Hi,
does anyone with a Profitec GO / GO 100 experience similar knocking or rumbling noises during the Fast Heat-Up phase?
My machine has been doing this more or less since it was new. The heating element has already been replaced once, but that didn’t solve it. More recently, Profitec inspected the machine and mechanically removed some scale from the heating element. It was noticeably quieter immediately afterwards, but after only a few days of use and very few shots, the noise is already back.
My tap water is quite soft (I regularly measure GH and KH), so I find it hard to believe that significant new scale could have formed within just a few days.
The noise itself doesn’t really bother me if it’s normal for the GO. My concern is simply whether it indicates an underlying issue that could get worse over time.
So I’m mainly interested in other GO owners’ experiences: Does your machine make knocking/rumbling noises during Fast Heat-Up as well? Would you consider this normal behavior?
I can also post a video of the sound for comparison.
Best regards and thx for help
Paul
So I plan on buying a Profitec Go 2.0 and am trying to decide between the black and brushed stainless steel. I like the look of the stainless steel version more but am worried about the headache of keeping it clean. On the other hand, the black may show water marks more if there’s splashing.
I would appreciate any insight you guys might have.
Thanks.
Hi everyone. I’ve had the bambino plus for a few years and have become really passionate about espresso and lattes. I’ve recently upgraded my grinder to a DF64 and really dialled in my puck prep. I’m now considering upgrading my setup. I’m not sure if I’m quite ready to spend on a good dual boiler just yet. I’m looking at the Profitec Go as a possible upgrade. I’m ok with the heat up time but I’m wondering if people believe it is really an upgrade from the bambino plus, and if it is capable of making 2-3 milk drinks back to back. During the week, I’ll make 1 milk drink and 3-4 MAX on the weekend (typically 2). I’m okay waiting a minute or two in between, and even refilling the water tank in there, but anything more than I might just stick with the bambino until I’m ready for a dual boiler. Thanks!
I have my GO 2.0 coming in this week and want to get a milk pitcher. I usually make one cappuccino, sometimes two at a time, hence my question about which size to get.
Is the steam wand powerful enough to steam milk for two cappuccinos at once? I’d get the 500 ml pitcher since I doubt the 300 ml would be enough for two cappuccinos. Or would I be better off getting the smaller 300 ml pitcher and steaming twice?
I’d especially appreciate feedback from anyone who has the GO or GO 2, as I’d love to hear how you handle steaming milk for one vs. two cappuccinos.
I am not asking for buying advice for specific brands/models. THX :)
Have a GO coming this week and just trying to understand the single boiler workflow along with how it functions in regards to steam, filling up, pressure, etc.
At what points do i need to purge water through the group head? My understanding is:
Once up to temp and before pulling a shot - releases pressure in boiler and heats up lines?
After shot - just to clean group?
After steaming milk - releases pressure in the boiler again and refills water?
Appreciate any advice or tips
So Im just over 3mth in with my Profitec Go v1 getting there with dialling in and making consistent coffees :)
I notice my bar pressure is at 9.5 on the gauge. I would expect it to be 9bar as the standard from what I read?
However, I also read discussed here, that setting it to 10bar is right because thats really 9bar at the group head.
So which is right and what should I set my Profitec Go v1 bar pressure too?
Thanks in advance for any guidance :)
I am considering buying a Profitec Go (was also considering the Flair 58+2).
Two primary information I received that influenced my decision -
Flair parts availability is lower, need to be sourced and will be done when ordered by the customer.
Profitec Go parts are available at a better rate than flair & the reliability of the machine is really good.
The inconsistencies that I found -
I had asked about the requirement for a stabiliser early on - I was told that it is optional and only required only if voltage is unstable. However, the proforma invoice that they shared has the line "It is mandatory to use stabiliser to claim warranty"
1 Year Free service - Invoice notes that Pump and Boiler are excluded. Then goes on to note that electrical parts are covered under warranty.
They didn't mention shipping cost till the last minute (within Bangalore).
I want to know the general feedback of the community about Benki. Also, if there are any active users of 58+2, please do share the reliability of the system (the heating components) and how long the service takes typically in case of any breakdown.
Lastly, how is Benki's service in Bangalore in general?
