Day 8 : Waiting to Hear Back, Anyone Else?

Applied on the careers website: July 27
Got the interview email: August 7
Interviewed: August 10

I walked out of the interview feeling confident — nothing in the conversation suggested I wouldn’t get the job. The hiring manager mentioned they’re hiring for the last quarter and that I’d hear back by Monday (Aug 17). Monday came and went, and I haven’t heard anything yet.

I’m documenting the Tesla hiring process and would love to hear from others who’ve interviewed there:

Were you ghosted, or did you get a rejection email?
How long did it take them to follow up after the interview?

I’m planning to move on and assume it’s a no if I don’t hear anything by next Monday (Aug 24). Thanks for any insight!

Conditional offer for Sr. Program Manager cancelled after 6+ weeks of waiting

Applied in May for Sr. Program Manager.

Went through the full process:

AI interview
Hiring Manager interview
Panel + presentation
Evidence of Excellence
Sr. HR Partner interview

Received a conditional offer on June 24. I accepted on July 2. After that it sat in “final VP/leadership approval” for over a month. Recruiter kept saying it was with the final approvers and they were dealing with performance reviews + executive changes. Multiple follow-ups, same response.

On August 14 the recruiter called and said the role had been cancelled due to a director decision. She offered to share my profile with other recruiters.

Curious if anyone else has had a conditional offer get cancelled this late in the process, or if long approval delays followed by role cancellation is common right now.

Communication within Tesla, does this still applies?

I remember seeing this .. was wondering if he still applies them on managers

Communication Within Tesla Memo
From: Elon Musk
To: All Tesla Staff
Subject: Communication Within Tesla
There are two schools of thought about how information should flow. By far the most common way is chain of command, which means that you always flow communication through your manager. The problem with this approach is that, while it enhances the power of the manager, it fails to serve the company.
To solve a problem quickly, two people in different depts should simply talk and make the right thing happen. Instead, people are forced to talk to their manager, who talks to their manager, who talks to the manager in the other dept, who talks to someone on his team. Then the info has to flow back the other way again. This is incredibly dumb. Any manager who allows this to happen, let alone encourages it, will soon find themselves working at another company. No kidding.

Anyone at Tesla can and should email/talk to anyone else according to what they think is the fastest way to solve a problem for the benefit of the whole company.
You can talk to your manager’s manager without his permission, you can talk directly to a VP in another dept, you can talk to me, you can talk to anyone without anyone else’s permission. Moreover, you should consider yourself obligated to do so until the right thing happens. The point here is to ensure that we execute ultra-fast and well. We obviously cannot compete with the big car companies in size, so we must do so with intelligence and agility.
One final point is that managers should work hard to ensure that they are not creating silos within the company that create an “us vs. them” mentality, or impede communication in any way. This is unfortunately a natural tendency and needs to be actively fought. How can it possibly help Tesla for depts to erect barriers between themselves, or see their success as relative within the company instead of collective?
We are all in the same boat. Always view yourself as working for the good of the company and never your dept.
Thanks, Elon

How long for the written offer?

Hi, I have everything complete, including background check done, interview and panel round complete. I received my verbal offer after my EOEA on Aug 7. Followed up with HR, said one executive is pending his offer approval. How long does it take? The wait is killing me. Anyone faced similar circumstances? (I am a Canadian, not sure if that impacts it)

Tesla Panel Interview -On site.

Any tips for Tesla on-site interviews? How is it conducted? Any tips from any role will be appreciated. Mine is an engineering role, but I would appreciate tips from any role candidates. How is it conducted? Are you supposed to reach to the office and then will the team take care of you in terms of the logistics? Has anyone done the interview after flying in from another city? How is that handled? Dress code, is that formal business attire or regular office wear? What kind of questions do they ask? Are the panel interview done one by one or everyone sits together and it is done? I have only done on site interview once and it was not a major company like Tesla. So I'm looking for advice. Any suggestions, any tips are welcome. Thank you.

Tesla offer negotiation taking 3+ weeks — normal or red flag?

Went through Tesla AI Hardware panel, hiring manager wanted to move forward and gave initial verbal offer. Had comp call with HR, submitted counter 3 weeks ago. HR sent one update saying ‘finalizing panels’ but nothing since. My counter was within their stated range and they explicitly said they could go above it if needed.

Now have a competing offer with a deadline. Planning to inform Tesla today.

Is this normal for Tesla? Does ‘finalizing panels’ mean they’re still interviewing other candidates for my specific role?

Any experience with Tesla’s hiring timeline post-counter would be helpful.”

How long to hear back after interview?

I applied for a Data Labeler position in North Texas, recruiter said I scored high on the assessment and interview seemed to go well. That interview was on the 6th though and they said they’d get back in a week, so I’m getting a little worried. Is this normal or should I move on?

TN Visa Delay — Risk of Losing Job Offer?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for experiences from people who had to deal with a TN visa appointment that was later than their planned job start date.

I have accepted a U.S. job offer with a start date of September 28. Right now, the earliest TN appointment I can find is around December.

I’m working with an agency that is actively trying to move my appointment to an earlier date. They are very optimistic that they will be able to significantly reduce the wait time, but of course there is no guarantee.

I have already discussed the situation with my recruiter both on a call and by email, so they are aware of the visa timing issue. So far, they have not mentioned moving my start date or suggested that my offer is at risk.

My main concern is what happens if I still cannot get the TN before September 28.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Did your employer simply move the start date until the visa was approved, or was there a real risk of losing the offer?

For anyone who has gone through this with a large U.S. employer, how flexible were they with visa-related delays?

I’m doing everything possible to get an earlier appointment, but I’m still worried about the possibility of a delay of several weeks or even a couple of months.

Any experiences would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Anybody else part of the round of lay offs disguised as firings this week?

Crazy my supervisor was just raving to me about how well I was doing not more than a week ago and cut to Monday about an hour before the end of my shift I’m walked off line to the hr “bubbles” and told that a closed write up from several months prior had been reopened and that im being terminated for it with a 2 month severance package. A security guard is waiting outside to strip me of my badge and walk me off the premises in front of everyone in a completely dehumanizing display to be honest. Heard from coworkers about an hour later that at least one person from every line had been cut in a similar way and it’ll continue. Anyone else? Just curious?

Reject after EoE

I got a verbal offer and was asked for my Evidence of Excellence packet as a final stage. Two weeks pass and I get a rejection email.

This is so disappointing. Is there anything I could’ve done differently? Were my bullet points just not strong enough, or is this an internal issue?

Start Date Mismatch in Background Screening

What happens when you say in the background check response that the start date entered in my resume was a clerical error?

For example, in the resume and screening application form you say May 2025, and through the offer letter and the screening company's internal sources, they get to know that the start date on paper from the external systems/their data sources is Oct 2025.

Has anybody faced this in real life?

Need help in Background check

In my resume, I entered the start date for my most recent employment as 05/2025 to present and uploaded the same resume during the background check application. I also entered the same dates manually in the application.

For the role, I entered Frontend Software Engineer in both my resume and the background check application to align with the role I was applying for at Tesla.

Now, ESS is asking why the start date on my offer letter, as well as the information they found through an external source, shows 10/2025 instead of the 05/2025 mentioned in my application. They are also questioning the discrepancy in my job title. The employment database they checked, The Work Number, lists my actual employment title as Data Automation Analyst.

I had also specifically indicated during the background check process that my current employer should not be contacted for employment verification.

I only have one point of contact at the company, who is a recruiter. I already had a conversation with him, and he said that there are certain things that need to be clarified by the reviewer.

Please help me understand what I should do in this situation and how I should respond to ESS.

Tesla 1st round interview experience

I had my first 60-minute backend SDE interview today. Technical issues caused a slight delay in joining. After introductions and discussing my experience, the coding segment started. The first coding problem took longer than expected to explain and complete. Despite not running the code, the interviewer affirmed its correctness and my logic. We then moved to the second question, where I explained the algorithm, seemingly to satisfaction.

My concern is not executing the first coding question and the interview running over as I corrected it and transitioned to the second. Has anyone advanced to the next round after a similar experience?

Also does in person onsite mandatory during the loop or virtual onsite is okay, with 5 day RTO going to Bay area for interview would be tricky

Final round interview went well, recruiter asked about relocation-how long is normal to wait?

Had my 4th and final round interview at Tesla last Thursday. Felt like it went well. Friday, the recruiter followed up asking where I’d be relocating from and how many people were moving with me. I answered right away. It’s been a few business days since then and no update yet.
Has anyone been through something similar? Does the relocation question usually mean they’re leaning toward an offer, or is this just standard due diligence they do with multiple candidates? Trying to gauge how long I should realistically expect to wait before following up again.
