I fucking hate Henry

I know it’s been said to death, but I’m on the part of my rewatch where he’s on the beams after a play, making Jen say she’s embarrassed to be on a date with him. She has every right to be. He’s an entitled nice guy and I hate this storyline

I’ll Defend Season 1 Jen

I’m on my 8 millionth rewatch and I’ve softened on Jen a little. In a previous post I laid into how selfish her character was in S1, but I will grant her honesty has grown on me. I like how she is upfront about her past. I’m a guy so I am naturally guarded but do you all think she handled her experience well?

Joeys singing

I know this subject is often discussed but after just seeing Les Mis and granted shes a teen did not have the talent to sing the song. I wish we had a scene why she goes it or what made her" talent " choice singing

*spoilers* just finished series as a first time watcher

The show was ok.. acting could have been better but I like a long series to watch and kept my interest. Jen’s death brought me to tears but i’m a sucker like that especially when there’s a baby involved with a young parent.
However, I did NOT see the last scene coming with how Joey ended up with Pacey after she literally just told Pacey that Dawson is her soul mate!!!
someone make it make sense for me please!!!

100 Light Years Years from Home, or the one where the writers remembered the universe (and Joey) will always hate Jen

Let us never forget that Jen's plot for the very special 100th episode was catching a cold while not one, but TWO of her extremely recent exes stalked Joey all the way to Miami to try to win her heart. Oh, and having Joey slut shame her for sleeping with Dawson.

Meanwhile, Pacey gets stuck having to commit to a girl who seems to love throwing his past romantic failure in his face, while being gaslit by another who still can't admit that his insecurities about her feelings for him were ALWAYS valid and correct.

Only Pacey's return to "voice of the audience" as he tells Dawson he needs to just move on already manages to keep this from being unwatchable.

Dawson’s Parents

I’m on my very first watch through and I have to say, Dawson’s mom is awful. From the very get go, Dawson’s parents are basically dry humping non stop in front of anyone and everyone - like nonstop!! She had zero excuses to stray in the marriage. Like none. She had to have been getting it 5-10 times a week form the beefcake of a dad. There was closeness and intimacy and loads of affection between the two. She just wanted it 20 times a week instead of 10. His mom is straight up GROSS!!! Horny little monster lady 🤣

What was the public reaction to Jack coming out on Dawson’s Creek when it first aired?

Im watching dawsons creek for the first time and made it to season four, but I really wondered, how did people react to Jack being gay/coming out when they show was actually airing? Does anyone remember if it was a positive or negative reaction? Im just very curious as to how they took it at the time

Group dynamic episodes for each season

My favorite episodes that show group dynamics.

S1 - Detention. We see Dawson’s insecurities, especially in the shadow of Pacey who he obviously perceives as more masculine. Similar we see how Joey feels insecure around Jen. Jen is trying to make a space in this clique and feels insecure as an outsider. It’s not my favorite episode but it is good and and there’s so much character development. A good scene is when Abby brings up, while they’re sitting on the bleachers, that both girls are into Dawson. And it also establishes that Pacey and Jen will not be love interest.

S2 - The All-Nighter. The memorable scene for me is Jen is telling Dawson she already knows everything Chris is thinking/planning. I also felt bad for Jen the morning after because of Chris’s slight when he tells her not to bother getting up, and thanks her for a fun night. I think her reaction was real. You know what I mean? We are aware of the other’s intention but also hurt when it is just that even though a piece of us hopes for more. The quiz is also amusing. And I like seeing the levels of academic seriousness, it’s spot-on.

S3 - A Weekend in The Country. I almost picked Promicide but there is something magical about A Weekend in The Country. I love seeing the dynamics of the home lives: Dawson/Gail/Mitch, Andy wants Jack to move home, Joey and Bessie remembering their mom, and of course Gram’s famous scene making the fire.

S4 - You Had Me at Goodbye. It’s the photograph at the end of dinner that makes this episode so great. It’s one of my favorite scenes with Andy, and her speech at the table is powerful.

S5 - Appetite of Destruction. A great episode on so many levels. Strong for everyone. Jack and Jen deal with the reality of drifting apart. Dawson and Pacey talk at the dinner table about a girl that isn’t Joey. Jen and Joey have a heart-to-heart moment. Audrey’s space in the group is crystal clear and her fling with Pacey starts to blossom. I love the end scenes; one with grams, and the other when Audrey makes Jack take her out and Pacey and Joey walk and talk, as friends.

S6 - Merry Mayhem. Oh, that dinner table. As Joey says to Dawson on the dock “she wasn’t wrong”. I like the humor in the episode with Todd and Natasha. And we see Joey and her Dad deal with their issues.

There are so many good parts to this show in addition to the love triangle.

Just finished watching Dawson’s Creek for the first time

I’m 23 and gosh, was I the target audience for this show… I had no idea it would have the huge impact on me that it did. I can’t even remember how I came across it, considering I’ve never heard anyone in my age range mention it before, but I’m glad I did. I wonder why it isn’t talked about more.

The themes of growing up and transitioning to adulthood were handled in a way that was honestly some of the most relatable television I’ve watched in my life. It felt like the writers spoke to me. As unrealistic and melodramatic as it may seem to some, it was almost like it matched the way I experience life and made me feel seen, especially the way all the characters spoke. Believe it or not, some of us do think and speak like that lol.

As a queer person, I also felt pleasantly surprised by Jack’s storyline and how it was never dismissed, and I can tell they did the best they could, especially considering the era it came out in. Now, I’m not saying this show was perfect, but I feel like the writers did exactly what they set out to do and pulled it off quite well. While the later seasons had weaker moments, I was still hooked till the very end, and the finale didn’t leave me bitter (unlike other shows).

I’m curious to hear your opinions on the finale and show as a whole because I don’t know anyone who has watched it that I can talk to right now and I’m feeling all sorts of emotions after the finale 😭
I’d also love if anyone who’s older and has been around to see the show airing in real time could share any stories about how it hit back then culturally and who people were rooting for the most. It seems like the fandom isn’t alive the same way it is for other older shows, like Twin Peaks for example.

Happy Hours

Sorry if this is a bit off topic from DC but does anyone know how or when the movie Happy Hours will be available to watch, other than it premiering at Tribeca?

I’m in Canada and I can’t seem to find any any information about how I can watch it and when! Is it releasing more broadly in theatres? Streaming? Help? lol

The way Dawson's Creek portrayed grief was incredible 5x04

I still remember the first time I watched the episode where Dawson and his family have to deal with Mitch's death. Rewatching it today, I realized how much care went into telling this part of the story.

Right from the opening, the usual theme is replaced with a soft piano melody that immediately sets the tone. It pulls you in and makes you want to see how everything is going to unfold.

What hit me the hardest was watching Dawson trying to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. Suddenly, he feels like he has to be the man of the house and keep everything together while trying to stay strong for everyone else.

One of my favorite scenes is his conversation with Pacey after the funeral. Pacey remembers the time Mitch caught them smoking on Dawson's porch. He says he had never seen Mitch that angry, but looking back, he appreciated that reaction because it showed how much Mitch cared. Then he jokes that if it had been his own father who caught them, they would probably still be smoking. It's such a simple conversation, but it feels incredibly human. For a moment, you almost forget you're watching a TV show. They are not talking about death itself, but about the small memories that keep someone alive in the minds of the people who loved them.

But the scene that completely breaks me is the one at the store. After Dawson's mom realizes they are out of milk, she breaks down because that situation reminds her of what happened before Mitch's accident. Dawson comforts her and goes to buy the milk.

At the store, the cashier tells Dawson that Mitch had been there that same night and that he asked about him. Mitch joked that Dawson was a pain, but the cashier noticed how proud he was of his son. He explains that he knew Mitch meant it because the moment he mentioned Dawson's name, Mitch's whole face lit up. He said Dawson was a brave kid, that he had become a romantic lately, and that Mitch was happy to have known him.

When Dawson gets back to the car, he finally can't hold it together anymore. After spending the entire day trying to be strong for everyone else, he finally allows himself to feel the loss and breaks down crying.

That scene completely destroyed me. The emotion works because the episode builds everything with so much patience and sensitivity. Nothing feels forced or overly dramatic. To me, this is still the best episode of Dawson's Creek.

The REAL problem with Coda

I feel like there's been plenty of discussion of the kiss and debates about Joey's motivations for it. But can I just say that I think for me the bigger problem is just the overall lack of respect for Pacey?

First, we've got Pacey being completely irrelevant to the episode as a whole. And this is not only a season finale, but the final episode of the high school years and even an episode a lot of fans think should've been the series finale. And it's like the writers have zero interest in him as a character. Much like most of S4, apparently none of these people were ever friends with him. The group dynamic doesn't involve him at all. Any iconic friend moments only work if he's removed from the equation, I guess.

Then we have nearly every character pushing Joey to Dawson, as if her quite serious relationship didn't JUST end. In fact, most of them act as if it never happened at all. Again, the vibe is very much as if Pacey was some guy none of them knew and they're just happy Joey's back where she belongs.

And finally, the phone call. Where after more than a full season of this friendship not existing, we're expected to think THIS is the most important connection Pacey has to the group and we're meant to "awwww" over Dawson saying he's proud. I just find it so condescending, towards both Pacey as a character and towards us in the audience.

First time watcher: is it just me or did the series conclude without a real cathartic talk btn Joey and Pacey?

I admit Im on ep 19 season 6. So i guess there’s still a few more episodes left.

Imo-There’s a clear reason why Joey was never as jealous about Pacey’s hookups (Audrey relationship included): i think Joey was mad at Pacey for his humilation and insecurity in high school that she instantly wrote him off as someone she could never trust in that way again no matter how much in love. She did NOT do the same with Dawson because he was a devoted puppy and so she did get jealous with every single Dawson kiss or sexy times. Pacey was right- she just never got jealous in the same way for Pacey.

Does she ever go into this with him? I feel like shes the only charactwr who is allowed to makeout and kiss all these boys and then claim innocence after without explanation of her changed emotions.

If she never does explain it, it feels like such a missed op.

James Van Der Beek singing a duet with his Daughter on 'We Are Family'

I know it's been a few months since the passing of James. But I really wanted to share with you a video of when he took part on the show 'We Are Family' where he sang a duet with his daughter. And just listening to sing makes me quite emotional as I'm just wish he had the opportunity to have a career in singing because his sings so beautifully.
