So this is kind of a prototype in Europe, a complete custom boot, more advanced than True's ones made for goalies who have really specific feet issues, especially with the arch of the foot. I think they look great, they'll be even prettier once the blade holder is done
Is there one that is significantly better in terms of quality and comfort? Price point aside.
Vaughn or Brian’s seen to be the front runners.
Also skates while we’re at it. Looking for comfort and protection as priorities
Which set would you prefer?
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with the Bauer Prosharp.
I am pretty picky with my sharpening and going to the shop I trust is about a 2 hour activity for me at the moment, and even then they're not perfect every time. I am just looking for consistency and convenience.
I was given a large gift card from my work to Sportchek. There is nothing I particularly want from there but I do notice they carry the Bauer Prosharp (unfortunately not the Sparx).
With the gift card, I can get the Bauer Prosharp, a wheel, and the edge checker for $1100 CAD after tax. I think most Sparx bundles will run at least $1500 CAD.
My assumption is that for the price, there is no reason not to get the Prosharp, but wondering if others have experience with this machine.
Replaced my old Vaughn V4 pads and V6 gloves with this True Nitro set that finally arrived this week and holy cow, what a difference!
I was nervous about how the transition would go to something modern but boy was I wrong. This new gear feels amazing. First step on the ice and I swear I felt 20 lbs lighter! Sliding is almost effortless compared to my old pads and the switch to a much stiffer pad wasn't really as dramatic as I thought. Loving everything about it so far.
You're playing amazingly. You're dialed in. No shot is getting passed you. Save after save after save... You're feeling in full control. You can tell that you're in your opponents' minds... They just can't get one passed you... It's the perfect evening...And then... All of a sudden, in the middle of the second period... The puck is slowly sliding towards you because of a deflection at the other end, the technically sound play is for you to go out and play it... You skate towards the puck, grab you stick... Swing.............. and miss...... Opponent grabs the loose puck and shoots in empty net...
Basically like a ketchup stain on a perfectly pressed and dry cleaned suit...
Konekt 2s came out June 2024, has anyone heard anything about the Konekt 3s? HL2s are pretty beat up after a couple of years and saw Fowler in some all white Konekts that I’d love to upgrade to.
Playing few a few years, league needs goalies so here we are.
Looking for testimonials from anyone rocking the Vaughn Ion Pro series (non-select preferred but pro select also welcome). Specifically pads/blocker/glove, chesty, and pants.
Some questions to get the discussion started:
- How was glove out of the box?
- This is a stiffer pad than Velocity series, how is rebound control compared to stiff pads from other brands?
- Is chesty able to be tucked in pants easily? How is mobility?
Did the NHL make him switch the pads?
I posted here a few months ago about an app I was building called Five Hole. Its a simple goalie tracking app for hockey parents/coaches, basically something I could use at the rink without spending the whole game staring at my phone.
I believe this still fits within the sub's self promotion rules since I'm sharing something I've actually built and looking for feedback, but mods obviously feel free to remove it if I've misunderstood anything.
I've added quite a bit since that first post so figured I'd share an update.
The basic flow is still the same... big SAVE and GOAL buttons, tap as the game happens, and it keeps the stats/history for your goalie.
Since my last post I've added things like:
For transparency on the development side... the core of the app was developed by me. I'm an iOS developer and I've also used AI quite a bit to review my work, help improve features, find bugs, and generally act as another set of eyes.
Android is a little different. I'm not an Android developer at all, so that version is mostly AI developed with me directing it, reviewing the behavior, testing it and making the product decisions. I figure thats worth being upfront about rather than pretending otherwise.
Basic game tracking is free and I plan to keep it that way.
No account is required either. I really didnt want to build one of those apps where you have to make an account, give up a bunch of info, or start a subscription just to track a hockey game.
Its on both iOS and Android now:

Android:

If anybody tried the earlier version I'd actually be really interested in what you think of it now. And if you've never tried it, feedback is welcome too... especially from goalie parents/coaches that would actually use something like this during a season.
I'm trying pretty hard not to just pile features into it for no reason, so even "I would never use that" is useful feedback.
I’m trying to buy new pads and I found the catalyst 7x6 set pretty appealing, I currently use the CCM eflex 5.9 and I need to go up an inch or 2 in size and am interested in an upgrade anyways and stumbled upon the 7x6’s. I’ve heard that the JenPro slide is horrible and that the seal on the thigh rise isn’t good. Do any owners or previous owners have any feedback?
I currently have the stock non-cert cat eye chrome cage for my 950. I would love something in purple for my new design.
I can see various colored cages online. Are these sketchy or legit? Would prefer to stick with cat eye. Any recommendations for retailers?
Hi friends.
I'm brand new at both hockey (1 season skating out) and now goalie (literally only 2 learn to play sessions). I strained my MCL almost 2 months ago literally first time I tried on leg pads and I slipped awkwardly. I thought it was fine, so kept skating out as a player up until late July when I was starting goalie sessions in earnest and the pain was bad enough I had to skate off for fear of hurting myself further.
I saw a doctor, confirmed it was an MCL strain and started physical therapy on 7/28. The PT has helped, noted how tight my hips were and while it's been awesome with them focusing on my hip strength and mobility, I just can't help being frustrated with how I feel 90 percent fine in all movements but still am stuck at home instead of hitting the ice again.
All of my PT exercises, extra stretches, incline treadmill walks, goblet squats, etc - all feel fine, but sleeping is a nightmare (no pun intended) and every day that I start to feel better it seems the next I have that swollen sensation in my knee and a slight twinge with a random motion and I feel back at square 1.
Has anyone else gone through this? I know recovery isn't a straight line (so the PT keeps telling me) but man - it's really bumming me out.
Not asking for medical advice, I'm doing all the right things...just venting I suppose.
Appreciate y'all.
Does anyone have any compression gloves or braces they wear while in net? I'm dealing with hand/wrist pain while playing (and in the morning after). I had an X-ray, no issues there, and am waiting on an EMG (scheduled for Sept). Just trying to see if anyone else has had similar issues and what they did for them.
For context I've been skating for the past couple weeks in rentals, I'm trying to learn how to skate so I can eventually become a goalie. My local rink has a donations room and I got some goalie skates from there because I figured I should start some good habits at the start but when I got into them I had a hard time turning and I was not able to stop at all, I use a pizza style of stopping for the rentals and that's been working great. I would appreciate any pointers with that
Also that room has like 5 sets of leg pads, do y'all think I should get a pair while they still have them and use them? I do not have any knee pads and do not know much that affects the sizing. I'm sorry if these are stupid questions but any advice helps.
Hey all, looking to order a set of pads from one of the major retailers soon. I know custom orders tend to take around 2 months, but just looking to get a stock set.
Anyone have experience with how long it takes to ship (US-based)? Only have ever purchased in-store or through SidelineSwap so any insight is helpful. Thanks!
I know there are a lot of posts about buying new chesties, but I want to ask specifically for the short kings. I’m about 5’8”, obviously not typical height for a goalie (at least not now - it was when I started though) and I feel like a lot of the recommendations probably don’t take height into account.
Because I’m smaller, mobility is a huge issue - I need to be able to cover a lot more ground. But having a larger presence would obviously also be helpful. I’m playing with mostly beer leaguers, but some of the guys can get off some harder shots so stingers have been an issue in the past.
So, for you smaller goalies, what would you recommend?
