Kidney biopsy

Hi

My eGFR is 60. Nephrologist wants a biopsy due to protein leakage. Is it standard to get a biopsy for a diagnosis? Bloodwork is showing positive ANA and elevated protein levels.

Is this concerning?

I’ve been having water infection symptoms twice in the space of a month with not getting fully better and still having traces of protein in my urine. I did this test for my kidneys and this was the result. Idk whether it warrants another GP appointment to discuss issues with my kidneys or not? Seems my creatine levels are very high

Kidney pain

I have been on compound semaglutide for about eight months now and have lost 30 pounds. I am noticing in the most recent month no weight loss and instead weight gain as well as aching kidneys. Has anyone experienced kidney pain as a side effect? Do you feel that the two instances are even related?

24F, 5th or 6th Kidney Stone Despite a Healthy Lifestyle

24F and currently dealing with kidney stones for what is probably the 5th or 6th time. Honestly, I’ve lost count.

My first stone was at 18, and if I’m being fair, my lifestyle was a disaster. I basically lived on Taco Bell Crunchwraps, Panda Express orange chicken, multiple Monster energy drinks a day, and not nearly enough water. The pain was the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. It lasted about two weeks, and I never knowingly passed the stone.

I got them again at 21, then again at 22. At that point my diet still wasn’t great, and I was in a very demanding college program. I’d take Adderall, get hyperfocused on work, and forget to drink water all day. I’d take a family sized bag of Doritos at the end of the night as a meal (or some other crap to that effect). One episode lasted around 4 months because I had stones in both kidneys. It completely disrupted my life. Never knowingly passed those either despite peeing in a strainer for months.

The frustrating part is that I’m now 24 and have made huge lifestyle changes over the past year and a half. I eat significantly healthier than I used to, rarely (if ever) eat fast food, and I’m very conscious of what I eat. Over the past few months I’ll have maybe an Alani once a week, and I guess my body just physically cannot take it at this point? I’m 5’3”, about 105 lbs, work out regularly, and have spent the last year and a half getting into the best shape of my life. I genuinely feel healthy.

I know I could probably drink more water, but I’m surprised this keeps happening despite how much I’ve changed. At this point I’m wondering if there’s something else going on besides my old diet. If I just messed everything up at 18 with my diet and now I’ll be prone to getting these every year or every other year forever?

Has anyone else experienced recurrent kidney stones even after making major lifestyle improvements? Did you ever find an underlying cause? Also, any tips for helping a stone pass more quickly? This is really starting to feel like something that keeps uprooting my life every couple of years, and it’s incredibly discouraging.

I just found out I have a kidney stone

I went a doctor for pelvis and back pain he found a small stone in my kidney. He said it is too small and did not give me an exact sizing.

What scares me is that he did not give me any medication whatsoever to help get rid of it he only told me to drink gallons of water and pee it out. I am terrified and not ready for that painful birthing experience.

Please is there a way to help manage the pain and to quickly flash it out without torture.?

27 Male – Possible kidney issue (proteinuria + blood in urine) – what should I expect next?

Hi everyone,

I’m a 27-year-old male and I recently got some lab results that are worrying me a bit. I’m trying to understand what might be going on and what the typical next steps are before I see a nephrologist.

Here are my results:

  • Creatinine: 108 µmol/L
  • Urea: 11.2 mmol/L
  • eGFR: ~95 (calculated)
  • Urinalysis:
    • Protein: +2
    • Blood: +1
    • Dysmorphic RBCs: 8 / HPF
    • RBC: 13 / HPF
  • Albumin/Creatinine ratio (UACR): 74 mg/mmol

Other info:

  • I didn’t drink water for ~12 hours before the test
  • I do regular training (gym + running)
  • No known diagnosis yet
  • Blood pressure is normal

I’m mainly trying to understand:

  1. Does this pattern usually suggest a glomerular kidney issue?
  2. How serious does this look based on your experience?
  3. Is it possible this could improve/stabilize, or is it usually progressive?
  4. What are the typical next steps (biopsy, medication, monitoring)?
  5. Should I be worried about long-term kidney failure or dialysis from something like this?

I already plan to see a nephrologist tomorrow, but I’d like to understand what people with experience in this have seen before.

Any input is appreciated.

i just found out this

my eGFRcr is 44, Creatinine is 121. This was my blood work done yesterday. I would like to know is this the start of disease?, or is it already there. Your personal experience, thought and advice would be greatly helpful in me learning what these results mean

Help. Parapelvic cyst found - left kidney

I had a CT scan with contrast on Saturday. The results came back and it’s shown a parapelvic cyst on my left upper pole. I’ve read that these are rare? The report doesn’t state the sizing of it. Just parapelvic cyst left pole.
Does anybody have any advice or reassurance for this specific type of cyst? Could the radiologist gotten it wrong and misdiagnosed me and I’ve got something more sinister.
I’m tracking down the NHS consultant that requesting the scan for more information.
I lost my grandfather and dad to kidney cancer and I’m freaking out.

Kidney stones, cysts, high blood pressure at 22

Hey yall I’m a 22 year old female, Im in good health except I’ve had kidney stones since I was 10. The past few years I’ve figured out I have high blood pressure. I’m medicated now which had decreased it a bit but it still tends to lean high. After a bunch of scans I’ve learned I have kidney stones in my left kidney and multiple simple cysts as well. I know all of this is fairly normal stuff but I’m a 22 year old woman who weighs 110 pounds and I kinda feel like my doctors are treating me like I’m one of their older patients and that all of this is “pretty common” and “probably just genetics.” Does anyone have any advice on what to do or what to look out for? I feel pretty frustrated by responses from doctors… or rather lack there of.

Kidney transplant evaluation tomorrow

35 yr old male, borderline stage4-5 igan. Unfortunately 1 kidney is completely cystic and Dr words were it’s basically a dried plum with no activity and may have been that way from birth, my other kidney is primarily scar tissue at about give or take 20 gfr. It’s been at 15 18 and 22 and last bloodwork was I believe 19. Been on all sorts of meds and steroids and getting kind of drained from the whole process. I will be getting my pre evaluation tomrw at NYU in the city and I’m a little nervous to say the least. I was told it would take about 5 hours to bring lunch and maybe a notebook to take notes other than that I feel incredibly unprepared and not sure what I’m walking into. I was in the best shape of my life working as a steamfitter and two years after the COVID vaccine I was diagnosed and told the vax was more than likely what caused it. When I was first diagnosed I kind of brushed it off and figured this wouldn’t happen for many years to come cause it wasn’t progressing to fast but now it seems all to real and I’m not sure what to make of it. Any advice and or help or just a heads up as to what’s going to happen tomrw will be greatly appreciated.

I think my kidneys are messed up

I like to think I (19 M) am very healthy. I weigh 145lbs, 5’8, no prior conditions, no medications, smoke/drink every now and then but not chronic. I drink plenty of water, exercise, and take care of my body.

However, 5 days ago I was brushing my tongue in the morning and I gagged, but when I gagged all of a sudden my back went in complete shock, I felt a very intense almost paralyzing pain all throughout my back. The whole rest of the day I stretched my back bc I thought it was a muscular pain, however, it’s been 5 days and it hasn’t gone away. The pain has died down, it’s not so intense anymore. And it only hurts towards the bottom and sides of my back. Under my ribs. When I twist it hurts the most. Is this a kidney stone or what is it? PLEASE HELP THE CONSTANT BACKGROUND PAIN IS DRIVING ME INSANE. Thank you in advance!!

Edit: My urine is normal color, almost clear in fact, no pain when I pee, and when I feel the urge to pee I do (not a false alarm like you get with a UTI)

Foamy or Bubbly urine

Male 25
Overweight
Noticed this after had blood in my urine that lasted a day and cleared up…after an aspirin over use for 10 days in Aug 2024

Since then Jan 25 and March 25 had blood work and urine tests
Protein negative both times
Creatinine normal both times
BUN normal both times
Egfr in Jan was 115
Usg of kidney normal

Only thing found grade 1 fatty liver
ALT 76

But symptoms still include:
foamy urine
(Except when I pee really slowly at the right angle into a plastic bottle)
Not visibly swollen feet but after reading about symptoms online I feel like I have extra fluid in them even though everyone says they look normal
Read about muscle spasms..the next day I had them whole body..more like quick twitches very minor only at rest and extra when I’m anxious
BP left arm 126/85…right arm 115/75

2D echo ECG normal

Thoughts?
