Toronto Recruit Chances?

Hey guys, finally got all my 1L grades and I am panicking about my chances for the Toronto recruit.

Keeping my law school info a bit vague (Western/Queens). I got 3 As, 1 B+, 3Bs and 1 C+ (Contracts). The C+ tanked my GPA and I feel so shitty about the recruit. I wasn’t feeling well the day of the exam and should have deferred but I thought to just thug it out…

Even for interviews, I feel like ‘oh, I wasn’t feeling well on exam day’ sounds like a shitty excuse, but it’s the truth. I genuinely don’t know what to do or how to salvage this.

I do have a legal adjacent job this summer, which I think will boost me up a bit, but if anyone has any advice, I would appreciate it!!!!! Also, I’m not limiting myself to big law and I’m heavily considering gov jobs, so the plan is to apply broadly. But considering the C+ in Contracts, how badly do you think it tanks my chances for big law?

1L Bad Grades -TRU

Got my grades back and am quite shocked. B+,B+, B, B, and B-.

I was planning on taking part in the 2L Vancouver recruit, but I feel it is pointless now.

What sort of career paths are open with grades like these? Should I focus on trying to improve during 2L and try again during the articling recruit?

Would appreciate any feedback. This girl is losing it.

Studying Law in Europe after CÉGÉP

Hello! I hope you guys are all doing well. I was wondering what could be the path for me as a CEGEP student in Social Science (in Quebec) if I want to study law in Europe. When I did a bit of research, I saw that studying in the UK for example would be better since they use the Common Law and it would be easier for me to just come back to Quebec to get my Civil Law or just use my Common Law to work in other countries of the Commonwealth. Is that possible?

I was also wondering about the grades it would take to study in the UK. In CEGEP, we have the R score so would it only depend on my average or would I have to take other tests like the LSATs? What university should I aim for, especially if I want to get a scholarship to attend university?

If anyone has gone through this process or is familiar with it, please share your knowledge with me!

Thank you!

do I have any chance at the 2L recruit

I got my final 1L grades yesterday and I'm absolutely shattered. I don't speak to my peers about my grades so I thought to come here for some advice

5 B+s 2 B's and a C+ (in contracts, nonetheless)

I'm so sad you guys I've never studied so much in my life. Don't get me wrong I'm fine with my B's, but can I get any jobs with a C+ in contracts? I'm not even interested in Bay Street specifically, any job at all is fine 😭 I'm just trying to put food on the table. Any advice from upper years is appreciated

Alberta and Toronto 2L Recruit Chances?

Hi everyone,

Got our grades back and my overall marks are A-, A-, A-, B+, B+, and C+. From UCalgary.

Also, currently a 1L summer for a mid-sized firm.

Chances for BigLaw? Also, does anyone know which firms are great for health, life sciences, compliance & regulatory, and tax law practice areas?

Thank you.

Are moots mandatory?

Hi! This may be a dumb question but I was wondering if Canadian/Ontario law schools require students to participate in a moot and is it weighted as part of your grade in that course?

If so, what are your experiences (and if you don’t mind indicating, from which school)?

I would appreciate any info on this, thank you in advance!

Bad Grades Help!

I did fairly well in my first year of law school, mostly A- and B+ with 2 Bs. First semester of 2L I got 3 B+s and a B. Second semester it all came crashing down. I suffered the loss of numerous loved ones and friends due to regional conflict and ended up with 2 C+s, a C and a D. I dreamed of Bay St., and got to day 2 with a large Bay St. firm before being cut during the 2L recruit. I am now searching for articling positions and will explain this drop in my GPA, although I am pretty sure any corporate firm is out of the picture for me.

I am going to aim to get the highest GPA possible for 3L but can someone tell me honestly what my chances are of landing where I prefer. What can I do in this situation? Thanks.

Big law grades?

For those of you who have secured 1L or 2L positions in big law firms in Toronto , what were your grades??
Overall averages would also be helpful. Also did you have any poor grades and did you explain that in your cover letter thanks!!

Chances for Vancouver OCIs: 79% GPA but 2 failed undergrad courses

Hi everyone,

I just finished 1L at UBC with a 79% average. I am wondering how my chances are for the Vancouver recruit and OCIs.

One of my concerns right now is my undergrad transcript. I have an engineering/computer science undergrad with 2 failed courses :( but these are from first year and everything after is much better. Just wondering how much of a red flag this is and if I still have a chance

Chances of Law School

Hi!

I have a Bachelors of Business Administration (CGPA: 2.79, L2: 3.5), I have a Masters of Industrial Relations (GPA; 4.0), CHRP (Certified Human Resource Professional) Designation, 3 years of internship experience, one year of full time working experience, was president of a club in undergrad for three years, was VP of another club for 2 years, and held a leadership role on student council during my Masters. I am planning to take my LSAT in the coming months. What are my chances if I get a 160? Or 165? Or 155? I want to be realistic and not just assume that I will get some high score. I am not aiming for schools like UofT, McGill, or UBC as my undergrad CGPA is just way too low. But do I have chances for other schools? Thanks so much for your response, much appreciated!

Vancouver 2L recruit

Hello everyone! My BC law school just opened up some information for the 2L recruit later in the summer/early fall, and noticed that there aren’t a lot of firms on the list outside of big law and some employment. Did people interested in other forms of law like criminal, family or sports/entertainment have to find their own 2L jobs or is this observation just school specific?

Does a C+ ruin my chances at the 2L recruit?

I have a C+ in property but a B+ in everything else. I am soooo distraught about my property grade. how bad would this be for big law/OCIs? I go to queens

Some advice

Terribly disappointed with my Final Grades. I ended with

B+ - Contracts
B - Constitution, Criminal and LRW
B- - Torts
C+ - Property

I’m from UofA and was eyeing for a 2L recruit in Calgary. Does this make it seemingly impossible for me to get OCI’s ?

Worth appealing a C and C+?

Hi everyone

i got blindsided by a C in crim and C+ in contracts. im definitely an average student but i really did not expect that low of a grade. i felt confident going into both exams, studied a lot during finals/kept up with readings during the year, and felt comfortable with the fact pattern/short essay questions. i was thinking about reaching out to the profs about getting some understanding of what went wrong. what's the best way to go about this? i'm pretty devastated about these grades
