Chibai,
I am from Nepal and had some great friends from the NE during my college, so I've always been curious about the NE but unfortunately never been there except for Darjelling.
I currently work as a freelancer, so I'm planning to spend some time living in the NE experiencing the lovely people, the diverse culture and the geography, starting with Mizoram.
Please make suggestions for places to live and a tentative monthly cost of living for an individual. This would be the likely outline for my expenses and preferances.
Few more things I'ld like to know:
Any extra information will be appreciated as well.

I'm from Assam and I'll be visiting Aizawl first time on 30th of May and I'll be going to the event where Joshua Van will visit, from what I've learnt, Aizawl closes down early around 9pm-ish and the event would def close in much later, my question is that how would I get back to my hotel which I've booked at in West Dawrpui

Hi! I have no idea where else to ask this besides here as Mizo people are quite active as a collective on Reddit compared to Zomi from Myanmar.
I’m (half) Zomi and originally from Myanmar, raised in America (so I’m American nationality-wise).
I don’t speak Zomi besides a few words and I’ve noticed that every time I want to learn more about the roots of my own people, it gets too complicated. I think a lot of Zomi people have biased political views (as one does I suppose) about the different tribes, groups, etc., that I’m not able to get sufficient information.
Zomi people are also quite closed-minded unfortunately, and even are very xenophobic to other groups so I was never able to learn more about my own history or the history of our brethrens in Myanmar, India, and Bangladesh (Zo people, I supposed that’s the term for the ancestral root). I’ve even noticed that Zomi people can be very spiritually psychotic (like, actually delusional) so I can’t even ask about spiritual roots or history because:
I’ve seen Mizo people more progressive and developed despite many Zomi people living in Western countries like America and Australia where you would THINK they would be more open-minded and “developed”, but they unfortunately aren’t. Maybe Zo people in Myanmar were so geographically isolated that we couldn’t progress at all? Many Zomi are so ignorant it turns to hatefulness, and most don’t know how to be normal about anyone who is different (think lgbtq, mixed people, etc. like literally anything).
I’ve heard that Zomi is a political term and movement to resist against “Chin” given by the Burmese government.
I’m so curious, how did Mizo people progress a lot compared to groups like the Zomi from Myanmar?
Any information, advice, resources, thoughts are appreciated. Again, sorry if this isn’t the right sub or if I’ve used improper terms. I really am not very educated about Zo history and all the branches of the ethnic groups and politics.

Hi guys! Recently my partner and I visited Aizawl after planning the trip for a very long time.
First, the good parts - the city is genuinely beautiful and incredibly clean. We stayed at Aizawl Guest House, had most of our meals at Red Pepper Kitchen (absolutely loved the pork) and spent evenings at Dwakhante Cafe. Reiek was dreamy as well (highlight of our trip)
That said, our overall experience socially felt uncomfortable at most times. Sort of felt the locals were being racist towards us.
We were heavily overcharged for cab rides by our guest house initially, after which we started walking down to taxi stands ourselves. On multiple occasions, locals stopped our cabs, stared, laughed, or whispered amongst themselves while looking at us. One driver even laughed and said “go back home” in the local language, which was later translated to us by another driver we had hired for the later half of the trip.
Even at Dwakhante cafe - which we later found out is mostly frequented by locals, we often noticed people staring at us, whispering amongst themselves, and smirking while looking in our direction. The cafe itself was lovely, with great food and views, but moments like these made us feel quite out of place.
Maybe it was curiosity, maybe something else I can’t say for sure but as tourists, we often felt unwelcome.
This stood out to us because we’ve travelled across other North Eastern states before and are always mindful about respecting local culture, civic sense, and personal space wherever we go.
To be fair, we did meet a few warm and kind people (shopkeepers mostly)
Would I personally go back? Probably not. But the place itself is undeniably beautiful, and others may have a very different experience from ours.
I’m planning to move to Aizawl for further studies after BA and I didn't write CUET
I wanted to ask:
ThankYou.
I made a mistake in the title it should have been CUET
Chibai!
Hello everyone!
I was posted to Aizawl last week for work. Really enjoying the climate and the hills so far. Very disciplined and good people here, how politely you all drive! As I settle in, I want to make a sincere effort to connect with the community and understand the local way of life.
I have been trying to get by with speaking English and most people here speak it very well. However, I would like to learn Mizo as I would be here for around 2-3 years. Are there any specific books, YouTube channels, or perhaps local classes you would recommend for a beginner? I speak English, Hindi and my mother tongue, Malayalam. Oh, I am from Kerala and its my first time visiting the North East.
Beyond language, I’d appreciate any insights into local etiquette or "unspoken rules" that would help me be a good neighbor and colleague. If there are any particular community events or spots in Aizawl where someone new can learn more about Mizo history and traditions, please let me know.
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Ka lawm e!

I am planning to book tickets for Aizwal for last week of May? Will it be rainy then? I don't want to book tickets and then realised I won't be able to explore.
Please suggest a good time
India's U17 women face hosts China in the AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup quarterfinal on Monday.
A win would send India to the 2026 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in Morocco through qualification for the first time.
Hello brothers and sisters, I have a question regarding PAP. I’ve seen some people that say that they had to pay a fine because of having no PAP. And then I see others saying they were able to land in Mizoram and fill out a PAP there with no problems. Of course the better option is to get a PAP before going to Mizoram but I do not have enough time for that as my traveling days are limited. My main question is am I able to arrive in Mizoram and fill out my PAP and live inside Mizoram whilst my PAP is still in progress? (FYI I’m from USA)
Can anyone tell me if this flag is accepted by Mizos or is the YMA flag preferred? According to Wikipedia it states that it is the flag of the Mizos. Also, I don't see this flag widely used. Why is that? What is the history of this flag? What are the people's opinions on this matter?
Hello people I am a big time football fan and I see a lot of shops in aizawl selling fake football jerseys sold at 1200-1500 price range. So, is it generally that high or I look different (non-mizo price)
Anyways I was looking for a Fan Version (Not player version as I will be wearing it for casual outings and want embroided logo other then heat print so, that it last long) jersey at Aizawl.
If anyone knows any particular shop I am happy to visit and also do mention what's the actual price for these dupe jerseys
