For Romeo ❤️

For Romeo ❤️

Hey Romeo, long time no see. We’ve been away - and we missed you so much 🐶🐾

Sending you and all our other friends (especially Yoda) our love from Scotland. The sun finally arrived last week (rainy again today though) so we’ve been back in the garden.

Lots of love, Zara 🐾🐶🦋❤️

Elevated liver enzymes?

Hugo had a rough day, neutered, microchipped, extra toe removed removed, and two baby teeth pulled. His pre-op labs came back okay except for elevated liver enzymes. He goes back in 4 weeks for a re test and hopefully I get some answers then. For now, they don’t know what caused it. I’m worried. Has anyone else been thr this? He’s young so I am thinking that limits the potential causes, but not in a good way.

Someone called Luigi a Papillon mix

Doesn't look like a long-haired Chihuahua or is one according to all the generations of registered papillons that preceded him 🤷🏻

Yoda Says "Show Me The TREATS!!! I Know You Have Some Treats."

Yoda sometimes climbs on my feet when my legs are extended in the bed. He walks up my legs with two feet on each leg. When Yoda gets to the end of the road, oops, the top of my legs, he stops. He strikes this pose. And he gives me this same meaningful look. He stares intensely, trying the Yoda Mind Meld to tell me "Give Me Some Treats. Please!!!"

It works every time. I cannot resist his all powerful Looks of Sweetness. Yes!!! Out come the treats.

Yoda likes when I break little pieces off his Pupperonis. I extend my two fingers with each piece between them one at a time, saying "yum yum yum yum yum" and "chew chew chew" so Yoda doesn't swallow it whole. Then he gets a bunch of "good boy, you chewed" and lots of pats and pets. I get lots of love in return; a warm and happy heart; and Pupperoni fingers.

We went to an art festival near my house. Girl exhausted from the constant scratches... she did so well. She ignored all the barking dogs kept command and got a lot of scratches. I colored her tail for the art fest all the artist loved it

Beastie’s travels day 3

After a long car ride to Lamar valley she’s relaxing on the porch, smelling the wind. We saw bison, elk, antelope, and a bear. Incredible. She hung out in her car seat and enjoyed the adventure.

First Bad Day

We had a bad morning with our senior dog and looking for affirmation or support.

Our little girl is 14 and was recently had a mass removed that turned out to be malignant. Sure, she sleeps a lot now, but she still gets the zoomies and shows excitement for walks. She is at this point in her life.

Yesterday morning was the first bad day we ever encountered, and it was terrifying. Big disclaimer: she was okay by the afternoon, and doing well now. Yes, we are bringing her to the vet to get checked out.

I wanted to discuss the day with other papillon owners/lovers. I've been reading this forum meticulously to know what to expect over the next year or two and a lot of what I saw yesterday mirrors what I have been reading.

We woke up, and brought her out first thing, as usual, to pee. She didn't go to the bathroom when brought outside, which she normally does first thing in the morning. She acted like she was going to go, but did nothing.

We went back inside. She started pacing incessantly walking back and forth down the hall as my spouse got ready for work. Normally she takes a seat near me on the rug or couch.

Once my spouse finished getting ready, we both sat on the couch. She came to the living room but she stared straight ahead, not at us but really at nothing. He again brought her out to pee or poo, thinking maybe she had to go. 25 minutes outside, nothing.

They came back inside. She doesn't hop on the couch anymore but she usually motions for us to lift her up. Not that morning, she just stared into space again. I manually picked her up, a motion I've done a million times, but she immediately shrieked out louder than I ever heard before. It was like a siren.

I got her to calm down, and she immediately settled in the crook of my legs, with her head on my knee, not moving at all but shivering as if cold. We put on her winter jacket, which seemed to help. It wasn't cold.

We got up from the couch and I placed her on the floor. She walked towards the kitchen and then just stopped. She had that vacant stare again. I couldn't tell what she was doing because she wasn't fully squatted to the floor, only partially. It looked as if she was frozen. Then we realized she began to pee.

We cleaned it up, brought her out (I picked her up again - no screaming from her at all this time), and she did nothing. No walking around, nothing. It was like she was a stuffed doll.

We brought her in, and half an hour later, she did the same thing, peeing on the floor.

She is fine now, completely fine, like nothing ever happened - but I am not. The entire thing just scared me so much. It felt very similar to stories on here of dementia. She was not herself. I am very sad and scared this morning.

Pupdate

Hugo is 5.5 months, 12.5” tall. Not sure what he weighs, but he’s losing his baby canines and not eating much kibble lately. I’m giving him eggs, cottage cheese, and chicken so he doesn’t go hungry. His big boy coat is coming in nicely.

His personality is really starting to show, and he’s becoming a really lovely little fellow. He’s listening better, the biting is more puppy nibbles than shark attack, and he can be trusted to sleep in my bed at night. (I’d know if he was getting up to no good because he’d have my shoes all over the house - we’re still working on that!)

Pitty training is still a work in progress. Sometimes he tells me he needs to go out - he has a button that says Potty potty when pressed that he’s using - usually I take him out before he asks. He usually pees outside, occasional accidents. He still poops in his crate, sometimes on the floor, then he brings it to me. 😂 Today, he pooped, pressed the Potty button, then showed me where the poop was. I guess that’s progress. put the poop in the yard and gave him praise and a treat. Like I said, we’re working on it.

I can’t believe the difference between him at 2-4 months vs now. He’s a whole different dog, from such a naughty little pup to such a sweet good boy. I struggled a lot those first 2 months, and now that I can see what a wonderful companion he’s turning into, it was all worthwhile. I love him so much!

Diago Update! 🩵

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve been active here, we’ve had a bunch of appointments for little Diago.

Next month, it’ll be a year since the desexing went wrong. I am just so incredibly grateful that Diago is still here with us and being such a good boy.

Diago’s bladder got retested to see how much he empties and while it still isn’t 100% great, it’s a lot better than previous visits. He was trialed on different medicines over the past few months to see if his incontinence is functional vs his insides not working together due to his prostate cut out. Since the medicine didn’t work, it means that it’s highly likely he has a structure (scar tissue) from where they rejoined his urethras to his bladder. The vets are worried about touching this area to fix it, as they said everything is really closely joined. Due to Diago’s small size/the breed, there is no room for error. The saying in that vet room always goes, if it was a bigger dog - than no problem! But we all know how small papillons are.

Diago is going in this month for a contrast due study, where they will view on an ultrasound where his urine goes and if it’s leaking anywhere + to see the size of the stricture.

If there’s a stricture, than will need to source a balloon catheter and hopefully it can burst the scar tissue. However it’s extremely high risk and could also rupture his urethras. While this wouldn’t result in death, we do not want to mess up his urinary track system anymore.

My husband and I are more than happy to have Diago with his incontinence/urine dripping however long term it will cause his bladder to weaken which can become a serious problem so unfortunately this issue has to be fixed.

Otherwise Diago has been such a good boy, playing heaps with his brother Jakey and just enjoying his little life! I guess I’ll be back with an update for how the dye study goes. 😊 Sometimes I feel so awful about this happening to him but we are always grateful for how amazing vet medicine is and how far he has come.
