Skunked!! 🦨💨🤢

Poor Rogue tangled with a skunk tonight in the yard, of course it was right before bed 🤦🏼‍♀️ Thankfully it wasn't a direct hit. He got hit in the eye and mouth. Ugh. He's perfectly fine and all cleaned up now.

Orange potato salad

This is a recipe that my mom taught me and I believe her mother taught her. The orange color comes from using French salad dressing vs mustard. I've never found a written recipe for it. This is from memory.

4-5 russet potatoes, peeled and cut

1 bottle store bought French salad dressing

1 cup mayonnaise

4 hard boiled eggs, rough chopped

4 sweet pickles, rough chopped

1 cup diced celery

Salt and pepper and paprika

I cold start the potatoes in salted water and boil them until just tender 10-15 minutes

Once the potatoes are cooked I drain them and put them in a big bowl and pour over the French dressing until well coated. My mom says doing this while the potatoes are warm is key. Then we put them the the fridge overnight to marinate. The next day I add in the rest of the ingredients, eggs, celery, pickles, mayo. Salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle paprika on top to make it look pretty.

If she was making a big batch for an event, my mom would place hard boiled egg slices on top and sprinkle paprika on the eggs.

Products you're loving right now?

What has everyone purchased recently that scratches that HSP itch? Lately I've been into whipped products, Hello has whipped toothpaste with a mild flavor that I like. Daise whipped body foam, hell even whipped cream cheese is awesome. What's everyone liking right now?

How long to recover after travel?

How long does it take everyone here to recover after traveling? I was on a family trip and the stress was high. (I love them and I'm not sure why I was so stressed, but here we are). I took some time off after the trip to recover. Usually it's a day or two, but this has been almost three days. Lots of sleep, little drive to get much done. I'm not young so this could be a part of it as well. How are the 50 and up crowd handling recovery?

Visiting family (hello introverts)

I love, love living alone. And I also love my family. But I've been visiting them this week and I get so much terrible anxiety being around them. And they are lovely people! I genuinely love them. I don't get to see them much and it tears me apart that my stomach is in knots while visiting them. Why am I like this? Anyway, I'm on my way home tomorrow. I always take time off after a trip to do an introvert recharge after socializing. Why am I like this? Does this happen to anyone else?

I'm freaking out, I'm so happy. Not great pics.

Hi everyone! 👋🏼 I'm newish to birding. I live in the Midwest and have a feeder and enjoy watching the birds that come enjoy the food. However, I've always wanted to see an owl. I hear them all the time in my neighborhood, but I've never seen one. Tonight I'm traveling to see family near Denver and I'm looking out my hotel window and a large bird flaps right by and it's an OWL! A Barn owl! I'm so freaking happy and excited! It's absolutely stunning. This can't be real. 🦉 💕

Mom's house has no power. Power company has to run a new line but there are delays.

Hi, my elderly mom lives alone in a large house. Last week she lost power. Alliant Energy says they need to run a new line to her house. It needs to go under her driveway. My mom says they gave her a portable transformer. We're currently in a heatwave. The hole for the line was dug today, but Alliant is telling her they won't be out to install it until the end of July. How long can she safely use the transformer? Sorry if I'm getting the jargon wrong, I don't know anything about how this works. Doesn't a month seem too long to wait to run a new power line? My mom tends to be too soft/polite. Is this normal? Temps are currently 95f degrees where she lives. Also she has a back up generator but she told me it's stopped working. (It's not meant to be used indefinitely I'm sure). Is this safe? Is a month reasonable to put in a new line? Is there anything we can do to hurry this along? Thanks in advance

Pulled out Mom's old Betty Crocker cookbook and found some gems inside. A recipe for Burgoo and Zebs Brussel Sprouts (Zeb is a family friend)

I remember the Burgoo is okay, but I don't recall tasting the brussel sprouts. Also electrical tape for the win!

Interesting article on how to tell if your dog is right pawed or left pawed. I'm not sure what Rogue is, I'll have to try the tests. Crumpet is right pawed I think because that's the paw she smacks me with when she's hungry 😂

Happy Sunday morning

This is what it's about! Woke up to rain outside. Now me and the pups are snuggling and I just put some whipped cream in my coffee to make it fancy. I never want this peace disturbed.

One eye worse than the other

Does anyone else have one eye that gets dryer and more painful than the other? I know we have dominant eyes. So I must be right eye dominant because when the right eye gets dry, it hurts worse than the left, especially the top part of my right eye. I've been diagnosed with MGD and trying different drops, I'm currently on Vevye for a month trial to see if I can get covered for Miebo.

Any paper shredders out there?

Rogue LOVES to shred paper. I gave him some clean paper from a package I got today. He never eats it, just has a ball tearing into it.

Have any of you taken a step back in your role to avoid burnout?

I'm 52f, and while I'm not purely an EA, my role is very close. I'm a financial assistant supporting two advisors and their clients. I've been in the role for 15 years and lately it's been feeling overwhelming at times and I've been feeling burned out. It's not the advisors or the clients that are wearing on me. It's the corporate bs. Leaving isn't an option for me. My pay and benefits are too good. One solution I've come up with is to cut one advisor loose, take a pay cut and just support one instead of two going forward. Has anyone made this type of change later in your career to help make things easier? How did it go?
