Worried about heavy metals, carcinogens ect.

For anyone else who eats edible clay, ordered from Etsy....are you worried about developing something terrible from everything that could be in the clay/dirt? I highly doubt the sellers test the product for heavy metals.

I've ate half the paper in my sketchbook and I'm so devastated.

I found a sketchbook when cleaning and got so excited, I sketched in it for a few days, and than the stress of getting lines wrong, and a bunch of other shit came along. There was 70 something sheets orginally, now theres maybe a good 13-15? I'm so disgusted with myself. I loved that sketchbook. I remember the joy the day I got it, and the immaculate joy the day I found it again.

I haven't told anyone, not even my parents about my bad habit of eating non-consumables. It's been happening for years, but my mom once made fun of Pica, saying she thought the people who had it were deranged and insane. I haven't been able to speak up since that day.

As a kid, behind the paint there was this thick papery stuff on my wall, I'd peel back the paint and literally start eating my wall. I still feel I cant say anything, or get the proper help I may need.

Coping With Fear I’ve Done Permanent Damage

hello all! I’ve struggled with pica twice in my life, once when I was kid and now in my late adolescence. my cravings are mainly for chalky things, so i made a habit of eating my ceiling. while it does not contain asbestos and was built recently enough to not have lead, I’m afraid I’ve ingested things that will cause me to develop a serious illness later and it’s caused me lots of anxiety as of late. is anybody here grappling with something similar?

Kaolin PICA: update 1

The homemade coffee replacement worked a couple of days, and like WOW, that clay craving hit me with a TON of bricks. Well, I've struggled and I will say I do feel like I've consumed less of the clay this time, but I cannot help it. The stress from work kills me the most and eating kaolin has been the only thing to satisfy me nerves.

Anyway, someone mentioned baby powder of all things, but one without chemicals and talc, and they even made little clay chunks with it. It looked absolutely delicious, though I do wonder about the earthy taste that I hugely crave with kaolin. However, the OP on that post shared she's lived with PICA for 10 years using bp, and hasn't had adverse effects.

I'm desperate now. I've ordered some and it has arrived. I will go tomorrow morning before work to pick it up. I hope and pray this turns out good, even good enough. Maybe I could just mix it with the clay to ween away from kaolin to something less detrimental to my health. Anyways. I'll share an update once I taste bp.

I keep eating stuff, and I can’t stop.

I went to dolly wood and found this glass like crystal that kinda looks like meth. I’m eating it and I am filled with regret. Not only for ruining the crystal, but also for not being able to stop engaging in PICA. Chalky textures are my weakness. I eat dry wall, rocks, chalk, sand, I can’t stop. I need advice. Is there any food that perfectly resembles dry wall???

How I cured PICA

This might not work for everyone however:
-I used to eat rocks, dirt, pencil legs, staple pins, A LOT of ice and more
-I didn’t get tested or anything but I took iron supplements consistently for a month sometimes with orange juice and I no longer have cravings anymore. The thought of eating ice makes me cringe because I used to chew on ice ALL the time.
-It made my nails really strong and grow quicker
-I was super picky with food (still am) but I’m a lot better now

can’t stop eating cotton

I’ve had an addiction to eating cotton for about 11 years now. It started out with eating the cotton of the end of q-tips, then I went to cotton rounds. At first, I would spit them out when they started coming apart in my mouth, but eventually I realized I liked the way it felt to swallow them.

I know exactly which brands I like and don’t like, and if I don’t have it at a time when I know I could be eating it I’ll find a store I can get it at as soon as possible. I eat it at home and at work because it’s pretty easy to hide and no one really hangs out around my desk. I don’t do it because I’m trying to not gain weight, I’m just addicted to it. I like the taste and the texture. Every once in a while I’ll get terrified that I’m slowly offing myself. I don’t want to do it anymore but I don’t have any motivation not to. I feel crazy. I feel like everyone knows. I always have a pack in my bag and I’ve only ever been asked once why I buy it so much. The only time I think about quitting is when I get a sore throat and literally can’t eat anything without it hurting, but then the moment I feel better I get right back to it. I’ve never told anyone about this. I haven’t even told my therapist. I just needed to say it somewhere.
