Parking RV while on whale tour
Hi all, will be driving up from Bremerton for the start of road trip through Olympic. We have a whale watching tour which starts at 2:30p from the wharf, where would be best place to park a 24 foot RV for the ~4 hours of the tour? We were told about a parking lot near the wharf but I’m a bit concerned on the size of spaces for the RV.
Thanks!

Please Stop the Fireworks!!
It is after 11 pm on the 4th. There are still bombs, mortars, and rockets going off all around me (I live at 10th and I streets).
My dogs are shaking. My wife is shaking, and I am really upset and thinking seriously about why the police don’t seem to be doing anything.
It isn’t that it only has been going on for a while. It has been going on all evening.
REMEMBER, IT IS ILLEGAL TO SET OFF ANY FIREWORKS IN THE PORT ANGELES CITY LIMITS. My house is well within the city limits.
If you have any compassion for animals like cats, dogs, rabbits, and deer— not to mention veterans who are suffering from PTSD, please stop!
Someone please tell Fast Burritos...
I hung their closed sign on the door
It came off in the wind.

Free trees! Goal is more shade and tree-lined streets in neighborhoods.
The City of Port Angeles is thrilled to bring back the City Shade Street Tree Program for a fourth year! Developed in partnership with community member Paul Forrest, this program has been expanding our urban tree canopy by planting new trees in residential areas across the city.
As part of the program, residents can request up to two free trees through an online application process. Once approved, the trees will be planted in the public right-of-way, the area typically between the sidewalk and curb, near your home.
Approximately 90 trees will be available this fall, including the following species:
- Sky Tower Ginkgo, Ginkgo biloba 'Sky Tower'
- Persian Ironwood 'Vanessa', Parrotia persica 'Vanessa'
- Starlight Dogwood, Cornus kousa x. nuttallii
- Sterling Silver Linden, Tilia tomentosa 'Sterling'
Trees will be delivered to approved applicants on Saturday, October 24, following the City’s Arbor Day Celebration and Planting Demonstration. Each tree will arrive ready to plant in a #16 fabric planting bag. Applicants are responsible for planting the trees, watering them weekly during the first two summers, pruning and leaf raking as needed.
Port Angeles residents can apply now through Friday, July 31. City staff will review planting sites and work with applicants to offer species best suited for their location’s size, soil conditions, and existing utilities. Preference will be given to households who have not previously received a street tree as part of this program.
Community members who would like to support the City Shade Program are also encouraged to volunteer. Those interested are asked to submit a Volunteer Intake Form to the Community & Economic Development Department at ced@cityofpa.us.
Love Where You Live
Olympic National Park had about 3.6 million visits in 2025. ONP visitors spent nearly $300 million in the local economy. People come to Clallam County and Port Angeles every year just to get a small taste of what we get to experience every day. That is pretty incredible when you stop and think about it. A LOT of people save money, plan vacations, book hotels, rent cars, and spend their limited time off work just to be here for a few days. We get to call this place home.
But for me, the best part of living here is not just the scenery. It is the people. This community shows up. When the Dream Playground was destroyed, people did not just complain about it. They rebuilt it. When people wanted a pump track, the community made that happen too. When our schools started falling apart, voters stepped up.
Nobody is saying everything is perfect. But the fact that people argue so passionately about this place is also evidence that people care. Apathy does not look like heated public meetings, long Reddit threads, volunteer boards, nonprofit fundraisers, school campaigns, park projects, and people giving up their weekends to build something for kids they may never even meet. This is a community where people give their time, their money, their labor, their opinions, and their energy because they want this place to be better.
There are plenty of beautiful places in the world. What makes a place a home is whether people care enough to make it better. Port Angeles has that.
Is Aldi coming to Port Angeles?
I noticed some job postings for Aldi after googling Port Angeles job listings. Where would they put it? Would be nice if it was a Trader Joe’s instead!
Booming sounds tonight??
What is up with the loud singular booms?? There’s been like 4 very spread out and my dogs are freaking out. Also it’s nearly 10:30 at night. Wtf??
Clallam County Progress
A lot of people only focus on what is wrong in Clallam County. There are real problems, and nobody should pretend otherwise. But the full picture also includes real progress.
Overdose deaths are down. Alcohol and drug-related deaths declined from 2023 to 2025. Local response programs are connecting more people to services after overdoses, and that means more lives saved. The county dropped from the second-highest overdose fatality rate in Washington to 11th. The projected cost of crime per resident in Clallam County is $383 per year, $81 less than the national average and $227 less than Washington State's average. King County residents, by comparison, pay over $800 per person.
Youth outcomes are improving too. Clallam County’s high school dropout rate is significantly lower than it was a decade ago, and the on-time graduation rate has improved over that same period. Housing is still being added. It is not enough, and we still need more, but new residences continue to be permitted and built. The May 2026 CED Building Report shows 28 total dwelling units YTD in 2026, compared with 16 for this same period in 2025.
The local economy is not standing still either. Payroll jobs were higher in December 2025 than they were a year earlier. As of May 2026, Clallam County's unemployment rate dropped to 4.9%, down from 5.4% the prior month, with employers adding 280 jobs to payrolls.
None of this means every problem is solved. It does mean the story of Clallam County is not only decline as some would have you believe.
Progress is happening. Lives are being saved. More students are graduating. More housing is being added. More people are working.
We should be honest about the challenges, but we should also be honest about the progress.
How can this not violate tax exempt requirements?

reddit.comHiking buddy for Obstruction Point from PA?
Hi everyone! I’ll be around Olympic NP in early July and hoping to find someone I could tag along with on a hike from the Obstruction Point trailhead? Thinking I would be able to hike there one day around these dates: July 12-13, maybe the 14th. I’m traveling in a camper van (~20’ long) and just a bit worried about being able to drive my van down that road solo, but really want to hike out there! Hoping I can hop in someone else’s vehicle!
I’m a quick/efficient hiker. Mainly looking at Lillian Ridge and/or Grand pass loop.
Cheers!
