Air conditioning post 5.0.5 update

Anyone noticed the air conditioning is much less powerful or cooler in the summer. I started noticing earlier in June. Didn't notice much in the winter.

I used to leave it near 70° F and fan speed 3 and now it feels much hotter and stagnant. I've been leaving it closer to 62° F and constantly tinkering with fanspeed. I have always hated the auto/not auto fan speed FWIW.

North Central United states. Car is on 5.1.17 now but I suspect it changed during the huge 5.0.5 UX change.

edit. compared to last summer before the 5.0.5 update. MY 2022.

Won’t go into reverse

My 2023 C40 recharge will not go into reverse. It’s weird because it is fine in park, drive, and neutral, but will not shift into reverse. I tried all of the possible fixes I found on Reddit—reboot the system, clean the rear cameras, turn off the rear cameras, lock/unlock the car, lock the car and move the keys 30 feet away for 30 minutes, etc.
I will call the dealer first thing in the morning because it is still under warranty. But, any other ideas out there for what to do?
Thanks :)

Umm.. week 1…

Saturday is 1 week I’ve had her and I hit a pothole and popped a tire…. I’m in my 30s and actually have never had a flat tire before😂🥴🙄. Not having a spare in the trunk is definitely something to think about. I was down the street from my house but I guess I need to think about buying a spare tire to keep at home… 🥴

Rattle sound when DC fast-charging

Hi.

My C40 from 2024 with 50.000 km on the clock have started making a clicking / rattle noise when plugged into a DC fast-charger - weird part is, the noise is not constant it comes and goes in intervals doing the charge.

Anyone seen this before?

New Snapdragon Infotainment replacment

Hey everyone, just wanted to put this out there if there's still people out there within the warranty period. I just had the Infotainment in my 22 C40 replaced by Volvo under warranty with the new Snapdragon chip based version. It is a night and day difference. The car infotainment flies now. If you're still under warranty, get those puppies in and get that old atom chip tossed.

It took a few weeks for the part to come in because of the backorder and demand for the units, but once they swapped it, I can't be happier. It finally resolved the one gripe I had about the car.

Buying my first c40 next week, anything I should look out for or know?

I am planning on buying my first EV, a 2023 c40 Plus.

I test drove it last week and liked it a lot, although there were some annoyances that I think I will just get used to (first time having a glass roof and it was quite bright, flashing speed limit, climate controls being digital, etc.).

What are the cool things this car does that I should be aware of? any tips for a noob?

Thanks!

If You Had to do it all over again, would you buy the Volvo C40 again?

I've been researching cars for the past few months, and I keep coming back to the Volvo C40. I absolutely love the styling. It looks classy, modern, and different from everything else I see on the road.

This would also be my first EV, so I'm trying to do as much research as possible before making the jump.
I would say I probably drive 30-40 miles per day. Sometimes less because I work from home a couple days a week.

A family member keeps telling me I should just get a Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 instead (neither of which I like AT ALL ) and insists that Volvos aren't reliable and the fact they aren’t selling new C40s in the US anymore isn’t a good sign.

One thing that does concern me is what I've read about the infotainment system. I've seen posts where people say software updates caused issues, and in some cases the car wouldn't start or certain features stopped working.

I'm not sure how common those problems actually are, but it's definitely something that's made me hesitate.

So, for those of you who own a C40:
If you had to do it all over again, would you buy it again?

If not, what would you have bought instead?

For reference, we're a family of four with a teen and a tween. We already have a midsize-to-large SUV, so space isn't a major concern.

I test drove the C40 and really enjoyed how it drove. My only real complaints were the cloth seats and the lack of power adjustments for the front passenger seat.

I'd really appreciate any advice.Thanks!

Purchased a CPO C40 with windshield chip

I just purchased a 2023 CPO Volvo C40 (I love it, it’s great) I went on the test drive and signed the papers last week and noticed at the time that there were a couple of chips in the windshield with a small starburst coming off of them (nothing major but I wouldn’t expect that from a CPO) I mentioned to the sales person that I’d like them fixed before accepting the car and he argued with me at first that my insurance would replace the windshield for free but I said I wasn’t comfortable claiming something on my insurance that was preexisting. Eventually he agreed to a repair. They delivered the car today and he said they filled the chips with resin but they’re still visible.

I looked online at before and after of resin repairs and I’m really not sure any repair was done on mine at all. I’m not happy about the visibility of these chips still and the sales guy is still telling me to claim on my insurance and that it won’t be a problem.

What would you do in my situation?

Considering Buying

Hello everyone!

Given the news about Polestar I'm looking at trading in my 2022 Polestar 2 LRDM Pilot, Plus, Performance to get a used C40. I'm interested to hear from you all what the deal could be with this car, it appears to me to be undervalued. Do you think I should go for it? Details below:

2023 C40 Ultimate for $21,403.87 Out-the-door

- 72,425 miles

- Carfax single owner, no accidents or damage reported

- I called the service department it visited for most of its life so far and learned that it had 1 of the battery cell modules replaced at around 71k

- After some back and forth I got a battery statement of health that reported at 91%.

- Asked service about the steering vibration fix, not reported to be addressed or an issue

- I asked if there is smoke smell or odors inside, nope (that's what they always say though)

I'ts a 5hr drive to check it out so I'm trying to get all my due diligence out.

Let me know what you think.

Two voices?

2023 c40 on 5.0.5 but got the pop-up for gemini (I said no, but I think it updated anyway) because the messaging screen is different and it's now a man's voice that reads the text messages while the original female voice is everything else.

2023 C40 - still on 5.0.5 USA

Just curious if anyone with a 2023 c40 in the US has received the 5.1.17 update. I’m still on 5.0.5.

Climate control help

Does anyone know to get the recirculate air to stay on?

It now automatically turns off after a while since the last update and is an absolute nuisance

Looking at buying, need advice!

Hey folks, I went and looked at a 2024 CPO C40 Recharge Core today, and I was extremely impressed. It's the AWD version, so insanely fast.

I have been looking at EV's for a couple months now and never once thought about Volvo, until this popped up today.

How do you find it, and are these reliable? I found it fast, INSANELY comfy, and overall great. The interior lacks a bit of tech and it has a small screen, but again was insanely comfy.

It comes out to be 42,999 CAD + tax, but they seem wiling to negotiate another 1-2k off. It's CPO so adds an extra year to end of factory warranty, which I still have 3 years on, and it only has 24k KM.

Curious on value, and if these cars are solid.

Thanks!

Help me decide

For the first time in my life, I’m having a hard time making a decision on which car to buy. Mid 50s, single, no kids or dogs. My main transportation need is commuting to work 15 miles each way, two days a week.

My current ride is a leased 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge (all electric), which has 14,000 miles on it. Lease is up in August, and I’ll probably return it because the residual ($33,000 + TTL) is a few thousand dollars higher than the market value. My battery range is on the low end, maybe 200 miles on a full charge, partly because I like to drive fast and blast the AC. Still, it’s been a great car. I love the way it looks and the way it drives and I love not having to buy gas or get oil changes. This car meets my transportation needs about 97% of the time. Buying out my lease would be the cheapest of my current options.

The one situation where the Volvo falls short is when I need to make fast trips to visit my aging parents, who live ~250 miles away. These trips are often due medical needs, not just for fun. There’s always a sense of being squeezed between the obligations I have on both ends of that trip. I’m always in a hurry to get there and a hurry to get back, and the extra 2 or 3 hours on the road is painful.

When I got leased this car, I was married and had access to my ex’s Subaru Outback for these trips. My ex has actually been kind enough to let me borrow the Subaru as needed since our divorce, but I don’t want to depend on that forever, as they may be moving out of state next year.

For the last year or so, I’ve had my eye on a Toyota RAV4 Plug-in electric. This would allow me to do almost all of my daily driving on battery alone while still providing a convenient way to make those quick trips. The downside is that the model I would want is pricey ($54,000 + TTL), PHEVs are complex, and still a lot more maintenance than EVs. In general, I don’t love the RAV4. I see it as a practical but expensive compromise. My monthly payments would be around $300-350 more than the other options, which I could afford but am not am not sure I should. I’m still considering it because these vehicles known being reliable and hold their value well. I’d have it paid off by the time I retire and could potentially drive it for the rest of my life.

My other choice would be a Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, at around $37,000+TTL. I’d miss driving a full EV, but would get great gas mileage. I love Subarus in general and the size of the Crosstrek is perfect (about like my Volvo and a little smaller than the RAV4). Unlike my Volvo, it would have a new-car warranty and any I’m guessing any longer term repairs would be cheaper than Volvo or Toyota. I’d still be dealing regularly with gas stations and maintenance, and might miss the sweet, sweet horsepower of my Volvo (402hp) or the Toyota (320hp). The Crosstrek payments would be only slightly more expensive than the Volvo.

Looking to the future, I am hoping to retire in around 7 years. My job is pretty stable, but it seems like anything can happen these days. It’s possible I might have to move, either for work or to retire, and if I do it would almost certainly be to a place with less EV infrastructure than I have access to now.

Which car would you buy if you were in my shoes?

Corded apple CarPlay

My apple carplay stopped working. It’s a 2022 so it’s wired, and the screen says “make sure the usb is connected properly”. However, the phone is charging so it seems connected and the cord is working.

Any insight?

Traded my 2016 Land Cruiser for a 2023 C40 today 😢🙃

Absolutely loved my 2016 Land Cruiser…but we also have a 2021 4runner with only 40k miles and just decided to stop fighting the gas battle as much.

Trade was basically straight up + got some extra cash out of it.

It all started btw because I needed new tires…which would’ve cost about $1500…and I just said we either do that and keep it another 3 years, or trade it now.

So here we are! Bittersweet, but really excited for the change.

✌️🤙

Planning to buy an EC40

Hi, currently I drive a MY2020 ICE XC40 and I’m thinking of changing it for an EC40, mainly due to upcoming extra taxes voor ICE cars. My wife owns an MY2024 EX30. Previously we both owned a V40 each.

Think I’m quite familiar with Volvo but have to ask: any particular reason I should reconsider buying an EC40?

Gemini not available on all profiles.

Anyone else had this issue?

My wife's profile has Gemini with the new update but mine (owner profile) does not. Can't switch to it in the menu and no notification about it.

Is this some Google account setting that needs to be changed? I've used Gemini on my Gmail account for a long time on other devices.
