What happened to good destruction-physics focused games?

I'll preface this by saying I am 100% not aware of every game in existence, but:

What happened to all the good games with a focus on destruction physics?

Red Faction: Guerrilla was one of my favorite games ever. It had its buggy moments, but overall its destruction physics system was fun and satisfying.

Then Red Faction: Armageddon was so terrible it killed the entire studio (that's probably not exactly what happened but I'm going with it), so now Red Faction is in some weird legal limbo or owned by a company with no plans for it or something like that.

The next choice seems to be Just Cause. The cables in Just Cause are great fun, but the structures all feel like they're made of cardboard and mostly are not destructible. Not very satisfying and not very fun long-term.

The best option I've played for current-or-previous-gen (yeah sorry still a console peasant, working on that) was Battlefield 6, which does destruction very well but it's hardly the main focus of the game like it was for RF:G.

So... what happened to good destruction-physics focused games? Are there any out there that I don't know about?

...should I eat the ridiculous amount of garbage CRC BHO I have accumulated?

So, little background: I was a general manager for a dispensary. I found the best perk of that job which, somehow, it seems most managers miss: ordering free samples from literally every single company in existence.

I got over 600 grams of free hash oil in the time I worked there. I sometimes had to stagger the bags I gave my budtenders because I gave them so much wax, it would've been illegal for them to possess it all in a single trip.

It was a lot of good stuff. But it was also a lot of CRC'd garbage. This was years ago, so all the good stuff is gone now, but the CRC'd garbage remains.

I know it's CRC'd. I can smell it. I have full confidence that this is some polished turd wax. Presumably that means it has some clay dust or some shit in it, considering CRC'd shit has a characteristic almost-minty smell.

How bad for me would it be to decarb all this old garbage BHO and then turn it into edibles? I must have like 10 - 15 grams. IN THEORY it should be pesticide free since it was tested under California recreational COA standards (though really that doesnt mean shit, but we can pretend it does if it helps me make potent edibles).

OEM unlock requirement, "Your AT&T device must have been purchased more than 60 days ago."

I have a Pixel 8 Pro which AT&T says is unlocked, but the phone refuses to actually unlock. They told me to wait 48 hours but I'm skeptical that will actually do anything.

More info on that issue here, if anyone thinks they can help me.

So now I'm wondering about the unlocking requirement, "Your AT&T device must have been purchased more than 60 days ago." What tracks when your device was purchased? I bought this from eBay so I have no idea when it was purchased. Is there any way for me to check, given I have no access to the account of whoever bought this phone?

Thanks for any help.

Lyric references to planets / space?

I'm painting my camper hearse, and Gizz is part of the vision. This will mostly be highlighted in a space part of the mural, so I'm trying to gather up all the Gizz references to space and planets. So far I have:

  • Venusian 1
  • Venusian 2
  • Gliese 710
  • Kepler-22B
  • Gaia
  • Lonely Cosmos
  • Spacesick on my spaceship

Also honorable mention to Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava but that's a little too broad for my purposes here lol

Aeon City Application Form

Greetings interlopers!

Applications for Aeon City are now being accepted! The city is still expected to open sometime in March, though early-to-mid April remains a possibility.

Before you begin your application, note:

  • The application is somewhat long. Many questions are optional, but the more questions you can answer (excluding the Opinion Survey section), the more likely you are to be admitted.
  • One question will require you to upload a screenshot of your character. This question is fully optional for general access to the city, but required if you want to obtain one of the just-for-fun ID cards I'll be issuing to Aeon City residents.
  • One question asks for your shipping info. This is fully optional and will only be used to send out commemorative physical merch which we may or may not create to celebrate Aeon City's opening.

Not sure what Aeon City is yet? Check out the work-in-progress Wiki page for the city.

And of course, don't forget to join the Galactic Hub Discord, where all social aspects of the city will be based.

Good journeys interlopers, and good luck on your applications!

Is it impossible to make a phone(ish) sized cyberdeck with comparable battery life to an actual phone?

I've used my Galaxy Note 9 forever now. Its screen is cracked and all the pay-by-month phone services I've used aren't compatible since NET10 finally fully died.

So it's finally time to get a new phone. But I don't like my options - I don't like having no headphone jack, no microSD slot, having unremovable AI bloatware, etc.

I learned about cyberdecks recently. I will be creating a functional Transponder Snail (One Piece) (random example, promise it's not my listing lol) in "true cyberdeck" style no matter what (RaspberryPi / etc), but first, I wanted to start with replacing my phone. I thought I might build a new one.

I've been looking into it for a few days and, from what I can tell, it's impossible to make even a vaguely phone-sized cyberdeck (let's say about as big as a 3DS XL / original PSP or so as a max size) with battery life comparable to an actual phone. Let's say even if we exclude the case to hold the components.

Is this accurate? When I first started looking into it, I felt like cyberdecks based on phones were a bit of a cop-out to be entirely honest, but now I'm seeing the logic... I'm thinking of getting a used Pixel 8 or 9, installing GrapheneOS, then making a handmade wooden case around that. I especially want a physical keyboard. I'd still prefer to build my own with a RaspberryPi but it seems like that's not so viable for what I want to achieve?

Hope this question hasn't been asked millions of times already, I searched the sub and didn't many similar posts but it was a brief search.

NOW OPEN: Loper Labs, the Government-Owned Custom Companion Service

Introducing Loper Labs

Loper Labs is a new HubCoin business operating under the umbrella of the GH Exobiology Corps.

Loper Labs serves as the successor to the Aviary by Corvus, a famous companion-engineering business which provided custom companions to many interlopers in the past. The Aviary closed down just about two years ago, on May 29, 2024.

It’s my hope that reopening a business in such a high-demand sector will spur some much-needed life back into our HubCoin economy. The economy took a huge hit in 2022 when Hello Games added difficulty settings to all non-Permadeath modes, significantly reducing the demand for most “manual labor” type of jobs (farming Silicate Powder, Ferrite Dust, etc etc) in a single update.

With fewer things to buy, fewer ways to earn HubCoin, and the closure of the Aviary removing likely the most in-demand service which still remained after 2022, people were less motivated to earn HubCoin unless they wanted some physical merch. This caused a knock-on effect where the more “specialty labor” type of jobs - such as custom Bytebeats artists, graphic design services, base design services, fan artists, or even the poetry shop which one interloper ran for a while - also gradually disappeared as their owners were less incentivized to earn. Economic activity crawled to a near-standstill, with HubCoin mostly being rewarded by the Galactic Hub directly.

This represents the first of two (maybe three) significant steps towards reversing that trend and reinvigorating the Hubspace economy… hopefully. If not, at least everyone still gets some cool pets!

(As a quick note, if you need to earn HubCoin, Achievements are the best place to start, followed by GHEC work / GHSL athlete career. You can also start your own business, ping me in #hubcoin for help with that! Competition is currently slim, so all sectors are wide open!)

Menu

Loper Labs offers:

  • Custom Companions (5,000 HubCoin): Do you want a companion data engineered to your specifications? Loper Labs can create your dream (or nightmare) companion. With very few restrictions, we can combine and remove any parts, including combinations of parts which are impossible in the vanilla game. See our Terms & Disclaimers, especially the Variable Functionality section, before placing an order as some genera are not viable companions or may display certain issues. All custom companions will be tested before delivery. Please be aware that there is no specific timeline for orders. Except for a 150 HubCoin downpayment, all balance due will be collected upon delivery of your order. This is done specifically so customers are not waiting through any potential delays after already paying.
  • X-Series (3,000 HubCoin): These species were rendered de-extinct using the methods of the Jurassic Hub Project. All species currently in this section were created by The Aviary. Loper Labs obtained the species after the Aviary's closure and modified the species for competitive Pokésean viability (SSS stats).
  • LL-Series (2,500 HubCoin): These species are not obtainable through ordinary gameplay, such as species with impossible combinations of fauna parts, species with parts removed which could not ordinarily be removed, or impossibly large / impossibly small fauna species. All LL-Series stats are modified to SSS.
  • GH-Series (750 HubCoin): These species are found naturally in Galactic Hub space, but are unavailable for console / non-modded players to adopt as companions. GH-Series stats are generally modified to SSS with the exception of natural double-S-single-A's which are left as-is.
  • E-Series (500 HubCoin, New HubCoin User Discount Available): This series consists of retooled expedition companions. Despite their unique status, expedition companions are not guaranteed good stats - you must undergo a tedious re-rolling / reloading process until an egg with competitive Pokésean capability is hatched. Now, thanks to Loper Labs, all expedition companions can shine in their full potential. Our E-Series species are modified versions of expedition companions with triple-S stats.

Pokesean Legality

All creatures offered by Loper Labs are legal for competitive Pokesean purposes. All creatures are effectively cosmetic-only and could just as easily be matched in competitive play by anyone accessing a catalog of SSS creatures.

Custom Pokesean movesets are not offered by Loper Labs, nor are non-vanilla stats. These changes are possible only by data engineering already hatched creatures; Loper Labs only offers creature eggs. Eggs appear to be subject to certain checks for non-vanilla content when hatching, making them a safe method of distributing creatures for multiplayer events. For example, if an egg’s data is modified to contain an impossible (or even possible-but-non-default) move, it will revert to the default when that egg is actually hatched. Eggs with, for example, 9,999 Independence stat would also revert to the regular maximum of 100 when hatched.

Other Disclaimers

See the Terms & Disclaimers section of the Loper Labs wiki for important disclaimer information, including: Commercial Resale Policy, Non-Commercial Sharing Policy, Neutering / Anti-Reproductive Measures Policy, Variable Companion Functionality, Pokésean Disqualification Disclaimer, Hello Games Action Disclaimer, and Data Corruption Disclaimer. (The disclaimers are all less scary than they sound, but still important to read!)

First Sales Event

The first sales event will be taking place in the [HUB16-1F0] Hyperion system aboard the massive Aeon City Shuttle Corvette. It will be parked next to the Space Station and open for business before and after tomorrow’s Pokésean tournament!

Custom Companion Orders can be placed in the "Loper Labs: Companions for Sale" section of the GH Marketplace forum, accessible in our Discord.

2018 Toyota Corolla LE.

My girlfriend's catalytic converter was stolen last night. Unfortunately, we are poor, so that's an issue. Thankfully, we are poor in California, which offers up to $1,450 worth of assistance towards fixing emissions-related problems.

We meet all criteria, except possibly this one:

  • Your vehicle must not have a tampered emissions control system.

Well, some tweaker (or professional criminal or whatever) went down there with a sawzall and cut a big chunk of it out, so that probably meets the criteria of "tampered". But it wasn't intentionally tampered by us. Does this criteria mean we cannot apply for the repair assistance?

Also, while I'm here anyway, would this part work to replace the old catalytic converter sufficiently to allow the car to pass SMOG?

What's a reasonable labor cost in SoCal (near LA) to have a mechanic install a replacement CC? If we're too broke to pay that cost immediately, is it an acceptable short term fix to just put it on myself with some hose clamps or whatever (if I can line the pipes up right)?

Finally, I own a 2001 Cadillac DeVille Hearse and a 2011 Honda CRZ. Both seem like pretty unlikely targets for catalytic converter theft (hearse is too old and CRZ is too low), but should I be particularly worried about either one with CC thieves lurking around?

Thanks for any help.
