Was the BS in Accounting at WGU worth it for you?

I got my HCI degree at a mid-tier UC and haven't found any good opportunities. I've been mostly applying to UX/UI design jobs and only getting unpaid internship offers with a couple graphic design jobs sprinkled in. I've been fired from all those design jobs. All in under a year. Two companies fired me within two days saying my performance wasn't good and the other UX/UI unpaid internship basically fired me for a stupid drama-related reason.

Anyways, I'm over design and looking to pivot to accounting because I genuinely enjoy the material. I've watched many videos from Farhat and Tony Bell and liked it. My brother enjoys his career as an accountant and I feel like being an accountant matches the lifestyle I want for myself. I also signed up to start my BS in Accounting at WGU November 1st. I'm excited but I'm also nervous that this might be the wrong decision.

Was the BS in Accounting at WGU worth it for you? Did you eventually find a job with the degree? Thank you.

I don't think design is for me

I've always loved design as a kid. I liked to express my emotions and creativity through arts and crafts. But after working design jobs, I'm quickly realizing how different it is to design for personal projects vs. designing for work. I get so attached with my designs that any negative feedback on them ruins my mood. I know I signed up for it but I honestly don't want to hear someone else's negative subjective feedback on something I carefully crafted and put a lot of effort into. Especially if it's condescending feedback.

I had two graphic design jobs last year. I got fired from both in 2 days. They deemed it was my performance. I was hideously ridiculed during my time as a UX/UI design volunteer. The CEO told everyone that my work is exactly the kind of work that he doesn't not want to see and it makes him angry. He told everyone not to do work like I do. He seemed very frustrated at my work and talked down on it for 20 minutes straight in front of everyone.

I am currently working a UX/UI design internship and feel as though I'm not doing a good job at all. I got a lot of negative feedback on my designs from my director and teammates. My group chat account also keeps getting deactivated so I'm assuming that might be bad news for me.

I'm starting to think design is not for me... at least as a job. I don't think I'm that good at design to make a living off of it. And I also don't like doing it as a job. I like making personal projects and designing things that I want to design, not designing for someone else's vision and company.

So I guess I'm making this post as a "goodbye" for now and a start to the next part of my career journey. Maybe this will resonate with some of you. I'm not sure but any comments or support is welcome.

I have no hobbies when I'm stable

When I was on meds that made me hypomanic, I would have a ton of hobbies and always have something to do. Now that I'm stable and on a good combination, I don't care for my hobbies. Literally, all I want to do is scroll Reddit, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. I have to push myself to do anything else. Is this normal? Does anyone feel the same way?

When did Caplyta start working for your depression?

I've been suicidally depressed since March of this year. I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 and I've been taking Caplyta 21mg for 8 days in addition to my other meds. The first 3 days on Caplyta, I felt like my depression disappeared. I was doing my hobbies again. I had more energy. I might have been slightly hypomanic but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Now I feel depressed (but less than before taking Caplyta) and low energy/motivation. I do notice I feel a surge of energy 3-4 hours after taking Caplyta.

I'm wondering when did Caplyta work for everyone's depression?

My friend told me that I don't need the meds and Jesus can heal me

I've known this guy for 5 months and he has high-functioning autism. We met on a dating app but decided to be friends. He also was on antipsychotics and mood stabilizers but got off them a decade ago. He thinks Jesus healed him and thinks the same can happen to me. Even though I told him I got off my meds 3 times and had 3 major episodes after. I tried informing him that bipolar is lifelong and is treated with meds for life. He told me he even knows what happens when bipolar people get off meds and still suggests I should get off them.

Just a rant. Anybody else had loved ones or friends say they can be cured by God? 😅 I'm not going to stop my meds obviously. Just frustrated to hear people still have this belief.

What meds are you on for bipolar depression?

I have an appointment with my doctor soon and wanted to discuss adding something for my depression since all my meds control mania. What meds are you on for bipolar depression? Thank you.

What are some jobs I can do that will provide me with enough income to live alone in California? Preferably a job that is not customer-facing.

I have my bachelors degree in Human-Computer Interaction but I've tried searching for a UX/UI design job for several years and have been only getting unpaid internships. I don't plan on getting married or having children so I'd like a job that would provide me with enough income to live alone in California. I would strongly prefer not to work a job that is customer-facing. I would also prefer a job that has a lot of jobs available but I know that might be difficult in this job market. I wouldn't mind taking 2 years or under for school or to learn skills. Thank you.

Should I be changing my meds during minor episodes or let it pass?

For years, my previous doctor would make changes to my meds like every 2 weeks because I wouldn't be feeling good. And it makes me wonder if I wasn't feeling good because I kept changing my meds.

I'm on a good med combination now but I've struggling with some passive SI and depression for the past few days. I was wondering if I should just keep my meds as is and let it pass, or change my meds? My new doctor wanted to prescribe a medicine for the depression but I don't want to switch so much like before since he said changing meds was confusing my brain.

When minor episodes happen, should I be changing my meds or keep it the same and let it pass?

For bipolar folk that have been stable for years, what's the secret sauce?

What are you doing that keeps you so stable for years? Do you have any episodes at all? Are you holding down a job, etc.?

How does everyone work a 9-5??

I'm doing an internship that's not even full-time. Heck it's only an hour meeting once every weekday and we work whenever we want. However, I've had multiple mini episodes since starting and feel so much stress. It's only the second week. I've thought about quitting because there's not much incentive to work since it's unpaid. But I desperately need experience. I don't know. I want to pull my hair out and die 🙃

How is everyone managing their 9-5?

Is 183 ng/mL high and can it cause mental health issues?

I've been on the highest dose of Invega for my bipolar disorder and it has also given me hyperprolactinemia. I haven't had my period for over a year. I feel overly sensitive a lot and I get so much anxiety. I feel crazy at times. But my mood episodes (mania/depression) are mostly controlled. However, I still have mood swings and irritability. I have driven friends and my partner away.

I'm not sure if these are symptoms of my bipolar or if they're from the hyperprolactinemia. Can high prolactin levels cause mood swings and irritability?

For those on GLP-1s, did it affect your meds or mental health at all?

For background, I went from 117lbs to 203lbs on antipsychotics and am 5'4". I was thinking of taking a GLP-1 but my psych NP said to be careful because it can slow stomach emptying and affect absorption. I'm wondering if a GLP-1 can affect mental health. Would appreciate any input on those taking a GLP-1. Thank you!

Tips on how to keep a job

I've always struggled with keeping jobs. I probably had 10+ jobs and the longest I kept a job was a measly 4 months. If I'm going to be honest, I would always complain about side effects to my doctor and he would change my meds every week. This happened for a decade.

Now that I'm 27 and my frontal lobe is mostly developed, I'm realizing how stupid that was and now I'm more cautious about switching. I also have another doctor who doesn't change my meds so often. I feel the most stable I've ever felt.

I have an internship in a tech field and would love to know any tips and tricks everyone has for keeping a job. It took me 8 long years to graduate in CS and I would hate to be unable to use my degree and work.

How is everyone able to keep their job?

Broke up with my Muslim boyfriend

I was with him for too long (7 years) and I would hear God's voice to break up in the first couple years of dating. But I just ignored it because I was an atheist at the time. I have cried over this breakup for several days but I'm also praising the Lord for ending this relationship I believe didn't honor Him. I'm excited to devote my life to the Lord and to start a new chapter!

NAC has completely gotten rid of my OCD

So I had career OCD that was very debilitating for me since 2018. I would constantly change majors and be indecisive of my career. I would do extensive research all day long. Every. Single. Day. One day I'd want to be a veterinarian. Then I see something bad about it, change my mind, and research a completely different career. I probably went through like 100+ different majors and careers through the years.

Lately, I've been switching like every 20 minutes and telling my loved ones for reassurance. Of course, they would sense something is wrong and eventually get fed up with my constant switching and reassurance-seeking. I know what I was doing was unhealthy but I couldn't stop.

I couldn't take antidepressants because I also have bipolar disorder and it has only caused mania for me. So I decided to research supplement options and found NAC. I couldn't tell you the science behind it but I've tried it for a few days now and on the first dose, my career OCD completely went away. It is just insane to me how a supplement can help something that was so debilitating for me for years. I have no thoughts about my career at all when before it was all I could think about.

I know its only been a few days but I just want to share this win with everyone. I feel like I can breathe. And I think it inadvertently helps my bipolar depression as well.

I'm aware of the negative effects of NAC but I believe the pros outweigh the cons as of now.

The NAC supplement I take is from NOW and it's 1,000mg morning and evening.

I'm not saying it will work for everyone but it's worth a shot considering it's a supplement and doesn't have as much side effects as psych meds (:

Has anyone switched careers due to the job market?

I graduated with a human-computer interaction degree last June hoping to get into UX/UI design. I did everything right - I went to a top school, I had a high GPA, I had a bunch of projects, made a website, won a state contest in design, did an unpaid internship, etc. And I haven't gotten any interviews for full-time paid positions except 1 in a span of 2 years.

So I want to make the switch to something else like accounting but my dad is very adamant about me using my CS-related degree. He said to get anything related to my HCI degree like even marketing. He said I'd be starting all over if I switch to accounting.

Not sure what to do at this point. I haven't been able to get a paid internship or full-time job in UX/UI design in 2 years.

I have no hobbies.

I'm not sure if this is normal, but I have no hobbies besides scrolling through Reddit and watching YouTube videos. When I was hypomanic I had a ton of hobbies. Now, when I do those same hobbies, I quit after a few minutes because I feel bored. I'm not sure if it's because I've gotten older and more stable. Does anyone who is stable on meds feel the same way?

Does anyone do gig work?

I tried a bunch of W-2 jobs and the longest I worked in one was a measly 4 months. They piled on so many hours on me, it was a stress fest, I was off meds, and I eventually had an episode and quit.

I'm doing DoorDash now and it's honestly perfect for me. I can work whenever I want to. If I'm having an episode, I can take a break and pick it back up when I'm feeling better. I can listen to music while working. I don't have a boss breathing down my neck. No annoying coworkers. I'm also in a densely populated area with a lot of orders coming in. It also took less than an hour to get started.

Some downsides are you're likely not going to be making a lot like 6 figures with DoorDash. Somedays there are a lot of orders and some days there are a lot less. But the work-life balance makes up for it imo.

There's also other gig work like pet sitting or dog walking. I'm thinking of doing dog walking sometime soon too!

Idk just thought I'd share a job that worked for me. Does anyone else do gig work?

Should I switch to healthcare or keep searching for a tech job?

I graduated with my CS degree last year and have yet to find a paid internship or tech job. My boyfriend is giving me pressure to find a job and said he doesn't see a future with me because I lack a career. I've been with him for almost 8 years and don't want to lose him.

I'm torn between going to rad tech school at my local community college for 2-4 years (there's a waitlist) or to keep applying to tech jobs.

I also applied to Georgia Tech's OMSCS which is only 7k in hopes of being able to apply to internships again. But I'm afraid that the job market will continue to be bad and I won't find anything even during or after my masters program. Whereas if I graduate from rad tech school, I'll be likely guaranteed a job.

Should I switch to healthcare or keep searching for a tech job? What do you advise me do?

No experience with accounting and have an unrelated bachelors. Should I get a bachelors in accounting (WGU, low price 8k, ~1 year) or a masters in accounting (UIUC, 25k, ~2 years)?

My goal is to get any degree in accounting and to be eligible to sit for the CPA. I would just go to CC but looks like most accounting jobs require a bachelors in accounting where I live. Any insight is appreciated.
