Buying a used Dell XPS 9500 - Any issues?

Hey Guys,

As the subject states, looking at buying a used Dell XPS 9500 (ebay, FB Marketplace, etc.). I know when they first released they had issues with the trackpad being loose, but I hear it's an easy fix?

Are there any other issues with the 9500? Or should I be trying to get a newer 9510/9520 model if possible?

Thanks in advance for the time and help, it is greatly appreciated!

2.0T FSI (EA113) Owners - Long Term Reliability Report Wanted!

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to ask for those with the 2.0T FSI (EA113) motors, what's the long-term reliablity been like? I currently have one (around 90K miles), and haven't had any major issues to deal with as of yet.

Anyone have any major issues or problems with the motor in general?

Thanks in advance for everyone's time and help, it is greatly appreciated!

Calling all X1 Carbon 6th Gen Owners!

I recently added an X1 Carbon 6th Generation to my Lenovo ThinkPad collection. I love the T480s and I've been curious to see how the X1C6 stacks up between the T480s and X280.

So far I'm very pleased, it works perfectly, runs cool, has good battery life (comparatively) and a decently bright display.

Specs:

  • Intel Core i7-8650U
  • 16 GB RAM
  • FHD Touch display (300 nits)
  • Factory 256GB SSD

Good:

  • Everything is working.
  • Has the better Delta fan (P/N: 01YR204)
  • 86% battery health

List of my mods + upgrades that I have performed are below:

  • Installed SaotoTech Track-point.
  • Replaced Thermal Paste (Kryonaut Grizzly).
  • Installed Refurb Battery Replacement (90% Capacity).
  • Installed Samsung EVO 1TB SSD.
  • Installed 2nd 512GB SSD (Western Digital 2242) in WWAN slot.
  • Installed Intel AX210NGW Wifi Card.
  • Installed Linux and dual-booting with Windows 11.

Anything else I'm missing? How are everyone else's X1C6G models performing? Any major issues?

Thanks in advance to everyone for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated.

Going from Air75 V2 Cowberry to a Air75 V3

I don’t have access to the lineup right now to try them out. I really loved the cowberry switches of the v2. What is the closest match to them in the new lineup? Thanks!

XPS 15 (9510, 9520, 9530 gens) - Linux Feedback Wanted!

Hey Everyone,

I am looking for a 15" laptop to do full stack web dev on and interested in the Dell XPS 15 (9510, 9520, 9530 generations). I previously had an older Dell XPS 13 (9360 generation) that worked flawlessly and I really enjoyed, but I'm wanting something now with a bigger screen.

I'm assuming that at this point it runs just fine, with near total compatibility since it's been a few years since release, but just wanted to check. Thanks in advance to everyone for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated!

Why isn't the X13 more popular?

Of all the Posts on this sub, I don't think I've seen anyone show off an X13 before. Unless I've just missed them all, I'm curious if they're just not popular, and I wonder why. I got mine a couple of years back for school, and though I am now using a MacBook for work, I've used mine since then for personal use, and I don't see if or why it would be worse than say an X1 or something of the sort.

Maybe someone on here can enlighten me. Cheers!

Bus Travel - I'm going to be commuting regularly between Dallas and Austin for work. Is Vonlane or RedCoach better alternative to driving?

Driving between Dallas and Austin is starting to exhaust me. I am starting to look at Vonlane and Redcoach for round trip travel on the bus and it seems like a lot but I feel like the ability to work while traveling counteracts that (also, my work will reimburse me for it). I also have heard good things about both Vonlane from a business travel perspective.

What is the better bus option, Vonlane or RedCoach?

Thanks.

Itching To Play Grand Theft Auto 3 - What is the easiest way?

Hey Guys,

Been trying to relive some of my old PC game days (early 2000's) and want to play GTA 3. I downloaded Steam and looked in the store, but can't find the original GTA3 download.

Can I still play this game under Linux in 2026 somehow?

Thanks in advance to everyone, super appreciate the help!

Work and Personal MacBook - Help with using same peripherals to switch between laptops

Hello all,

Anyone have a current setup where they are using their peripherals (Monitor, Keyboard, Trackpad, etc.) between a work macbook and personal MacBook in the same sitting? It seems like I can achieve most of this with a TB4 dock, but it sounds like my Apple Peripherals (Keyboard and Trackpad) can only be tied to a single macbook? If I could somehow have both laptops plugged in and be able to switch easily, that would be ideal. But I don't mind physically removing the TB4 dock cable from the work MacBook and connecting it to the personal MacBook as a last resort.

I am not interested in having two setups and going to two locations when logging off from work and wanting to hop on my Mac for browsing or reddit.

Thanks!

X1C6 Gen - How To Reduce Fan Noise

Hey Everyone,

As the subect states, I am trying to reduce some fan noise on my X1 Carbon 6th Gen laptop. I've already done the following:

-Running Linux (EndeavourOS).

-Replaced the thermal paste and made sure fans are clean.

-Made sure I am using the superior Delta internal fan.

All of these things have helped, but it seems to really get "loud" if I have a lot of tabs open or I'm doing some video streaming. What are some other things I can try to help with reducing some of the fan noise + heat?

Any help would be super appreciated. Thanks!

Hey Guys,

Purchased my first Ultrawide monitor (Dell AW3425DWM) and using MacOS Tahoe. I downloaded Rectangle so I can control and tile my windows, but what is the best way to set everything up from a settings, colors perspective?

I'm not planning on gaming, mainly productivity, but I want to have good colors and the most optimum settings if possible under MacOS.

Any help would be super appreciated. Thanks!
