Hyper-pigmentation from road rash!

Hi everyone! Got my first proper road rash a few days ago, and now that the accident has mostly moved from immediate wound care to vanity.. I'm trying my best to avoid scarring and hyper-pigmentation on the shallower scrapes!

For anyone who has had PIH after road rash, burns, abrasions or just PIH more generally, what helped lower inflammation while the marks were still fresh, and what worked later once the skin had fully healed beyond UV protection?

Currently focusing on moist wound healing with Fitostimoline hydrogel, Vaseline and Tegaderm while the surface is still rebuilding.

I’m wondering whether topical hydrocortisone would make sense on these shallow scrapes to reduce inflammation early, as they're not open or bleeding, just very red and superficially abraded. I’m hesitant to use it too soon, though, in case it interferes with healing, so I’m considering waiting another day or two.

Silicone scar gels and tapes: My understanding is that they are mainly useful for texture/raised scarring rather than pigmentation, but I’m not sure how much they help with discolouration.

For treating PIH in my situation, would you lean towards hydroquinone, and if so at what percentage? Or would azelaic acid and tretinoin be better?

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who’ve dealt with PIH successfully. Trying to be careful without over-treating new skin

[Trigger Warning] Do you have tips for preventing and treating post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from roadrash?🤍

First proper road rash: the hospital dressing dried/stuck, now on Tegaderm after reading threads online. Do you guys have any tips for avoiding maceration? And any general advice!

Crashed on a super steep descent on a big busy road in the Dolomites, slid a few metres, got lucky but ended up with road rash.

Hospital cleaned it and dressed it with hyaluronic cream, non-stick mesh, sterile pads and wrap. They said keep it on 3 days, but after 1 day it already felt dry/stuck, so I softened it with saline and removed it slowly. Some parts had stuck and left a mesh pattern on the skin.

I switched to Tegaderm, as per your advice, and it already feels much better🥲 Less friction and bulk as well. I’m concerned about maceration though, especially overnight, since a few areas are still oozing.

For those who’ve used it, do you put it directly over everything, or use silicone foam / an absorbent layer under it for the weepier parts? How often did you change it early on? What does normal moisture look like versus actual maceration?

Do you use any gels/creams before applying Tegaderm? I’ve been pouring saline on it to disinfect it. Perhaps i need something else

Some pics of the trip and of the three peaks at the end! Maybe it was worth it..

Questions about protein powder on multi-day “fasts” and breaking addictive eating habits

What do you think about using a small amount of unflavoured grass-fed whey during multi-day “fasts”?Ignoring how it interrupts cellular repair mechanisms like autophagy and focusing more fat loss, adherence, satiety, and preserving as much muscle as possible? One scoop on rest days and maybe two if lifting.

I find that it also helps me get through the fast without opening the appetite-loop. I reckon even bland chicken may switch my brain into eating-mode and make it harder to stop, while unflavoured whey isn’t a trigger at all. It just helps preserve the structure of the fast behaviourally.

I’m one day away from finishing this five-day “dirty fast” (the longest fast I’ve ever attempted) and the protein has indeed helped me stay with it.

What do you think about this strategy? Have you personally done this?

Is she pregnant or already gave birth?

This cutie has been living in our garden for the past months. We feed her every day and just noticed her nipples!! Does she already have a litter somewhere?

Your rec for an additive free ryo you can buy easily in italy? Florence specifically

Or additive free and organic but additive free is enough if that’s hard to find!
