It can get better.
I’m 21. I live with my best friend, have a cat, study something that is my passion. I have a lot of friends, regularly see my psychiatrist and haven’t had a proper manic or hypomanic episode in years.
When I was 14, I was just finishing middle school where I was bullied. I was surrounded by homophobia. I had hallucinations on a daily basis. I started high school where the classes and stress were too much for me. I couldn’t focus, I couldn’t relax and I had panic attacks all the time. When I was 15 I started drinking and smoking, by 16 I was a full blown alcoholic. My parents were horrible. Screaming matches, my father’s violent outbursts, my mother’s hatred for how I looked, all of this crushed me.
At 17 I was diagnosed with bipolar. Quetiapine saved my life. With time, i got additional medication. Moved out at 18. Found a support system of people who love me. Patched things up a bit with mom. Quit drinking and quit nicotine.
If I read this post when I was 14 I’d think this is bullshit. It’s not. Life really can get better, no matter what age you are. We all need time to learn to cope with bipolar, get proper help and rebuild your life in a shape that fits you. Good luck to everyone on this sub. I believe in you.
