Y’all still using Snapchat?

I haven’t used Snapchat since probably 2019. However, I remember the mid-late 2010s when everybody was using it, including me. Do you guys still use it to chat with anybody? Still have insanely long streaks going?

It seems like a lot of people have migrated to just using TikTok or other platforms instead, but I could be wrong. I don’t have TikTok either so I’m not really the authority to speak on it lol

So how about you guys? Still using Snapchat?

With the 40th anniversary of Slippery, where does it rank on your list of Bon Jovi albums?

Personally, I have it at #4 behind These Days, New Jersey, and Keep the Faith. Despite not being top 3 for me I still think it’s a great album, and obviously it’s the one that launched the band into superstardom.

Where do you guys rank the album?

If ‘08-borns think they’re “old”, what do they think of us lol

Apparently 18 is old now? Many in the comments from years around that also talking about being “old”. Man, those of us who belong in this sub must be dinosaurs lol

Memories of the Hurricane Ike Windstorm

In the wake of the storm our area saw yesterday, what memories do you guys have of the windstorm that came through Ohio following Hurricane Ike? To refresh your memory, it occurred in September of 2008. Over 2.6 million Ohioans lost power, over 900,000 in the greater Cincinnati area alone. The Duke Energy rep at the time said they had never seen anything like it.

Personally, I was ~9 years old. I remember both our grill and round glass table on the back porch being knocked over. The table specifically rolled pretty far away from the house. My grandparents also had a large tree fall on their house, which caused significant damage.

How about you guys?

People that post crap like this are either rage baiting or out of touch

Apparently if you’re Gen Z you’ve never played outside? Never gotten wet? Idk, I hope that this is rage bait because if not whoever posted this is so unbelievably ignorant. Yes, personal technology became more available during Gen Z’s childhood. But to basically say none of us ever played outside or anything like that is a joke

The Son of Beast experience

To all of you in this sub who got yourself a ride (or several) on Son of Beast, was it as bad as people say? Recently I watched a video regarding the construction and all the issues of the ride. It was described as “sitting on a jackhammer” or “so rough it wasn’t enjoyable”. How bad was it in your experience, whether that be with or without the loop?

For context, I was big enough to ride it the last several years it stood open, but my mother refused to let me ride it since she rode it when it opened and said it beat her up (overprotective, am I right)

First time Cedar Point visitor thoughts

Me, my wife and kids just went up to CP for the first time ever this past Monday and Tuesday, along with my parents and grandparents. Monday we spent the day at the waterpark and I went back in the evening with my dad to ride the big rides. Tuesday we all went to the hard park, and again I returned in the evening to ride the big rides with my dad that we didn’t get to Monday. I wanted to share my thoughts on the park from the perspective of somebody who’s had KI passes their entire life, and never made the trip up to CP before.

First off, the big rides were awesome. Top 3 I’d say were 1) Steel Vengeance, 2) Maverick, 3) Top Thrill 2. Siren’s Curse has the cool tilt, but the rest wasn’t super crazy to me. Millennium Force is just a slightly taller Orion, but still fun nonetheless. Getting to experience all those big rides for the first time was a great experience.

As far as the park as a whole, tons of rides were closed, or would close off and on throughout the day. For example, we didn’t get to ride Raptor or Magnum because they were closed both days of the trip. Lots of the kid rides were not being operated. I will say I liked the larger availability of drink stations compared to KI. Overall, I think when it comes to small kids KI is the superior park.

Also, for families with individuals that have special needs, the disability pass system at CP is significantly worse than KI. We were expecting the same system KI has in place where you to the exit with your party of up to 4, get a time you’re allowed to go on something else, then get on that ride shortly after. At CP, you have to attempt to get the individual with special needs to stay in the line, and if they can’t, they can leave but you have to stay. Once you get to the station, you either text somebody outside the line to take them to the exit to rejoin you, or have the attendant page down to the worker at the exit. It’s a way more convoluted system, and having a child with special needs, it was very disappointing to not be able to take him on as much. Universal and Disney have systems similar to KI except they’re digitized through their apps, I’m not sure why CP is so different than the rest.

Not much to say about the waterpark, other than that KI’s waterpark is much better, and it’s not particularly close.

Overall, I’m glad we made the trip and went to the park for the first time (especially before all the smoke rolled in). I can definitely see the appeal for all the large rides if you’re a thrill-seeking enthusiast. However, I think KI is a superior park for a family of all ages. Maybe I’m biased because it’s my home park, but these are just my initial thoughts.

First time CP impressions

I just went to CP for the first time in my life, pushing 30yo. Living in the greater Cincinnati area the majority of my life, we have had Kings Island passes basically as long as I can remember. I decided to rank all the big coasters I rode based on my initial impressions:

  1. Steel Vengeance - got on this one after dark. It was a wild good time
  2. Maverick - comparable to Steel Vengeance in that it goes pretty much nonstop, but I think SV still takes the edge for me
  3. Valravn - good coaster with inversions and like the delayed drop from the initial hill as well
  4. Siren’s Curse - other than the tilt, it doesn’t do anything that wows me. Still a fun ride though
  5. Millennium Force - it’s tall and it’s fast, and a fun ride. However, it’s not significantly different than what I’ve got at Kings Island in Orion and Diamondback
  6. Gatekeeper - similar to MF, this ride reminds me a lot of Banshee at Kings Island, minus the train layout

Honorable mention for Top Thrill 2. Not included above because I see it as more of a thrill ride than a coaster, but it was fun too.

Couldn’t ride Raptor or Magnum XL because they were closed during my visit. Overall, I thought they had great coasters and wish Kings Island would add something like Steel Vengeance or Maverick to their park. And I’m sure my opinions will change as time goes on, this is just how I initially feel after leaving yesterday.

Thoughts on TikTok?

Gen Z is sometimes called the “TikTok generation” by older folks (even though there are arguably the same amount of Millennials on the app). That being said, what are you in this sub’s thoughts? Active user?

Personally, I do not use TikTok. I have downloaded it and tried it for a couple days, I just didn’t like it. I guess I’m more of a long-form content kind of person. Or just like having a specific pick of what I watch (old enough to remember the pre-algorithm days lol)

Only social media I use are Reddit, Instagram, and Facebook (I’m a grandpa, I know). I also have a Twitter/X account but only use it for gaming news and whatnot.

So how many of you guys on here actively use TikTok? Not judging you either way, just curious.

Will you be buying a next-gen console?

Between likely $1,000+ starting price points and now Sony announcing they no longer are releasing their games physically, where do you stand on buying a PS6 or Project Helix?

Personally, I don’t have interest at this point even if I could afford either. And I’m somebody who owns a PS5, Series X, and Switch 2. Looking more and more each day like I will be moving to PC down the road.

[BRO] A Big Red One remaster/remake would be an instant buy for me

Does anybody remember this game? I feel like when it comes to the discussion of CoD campaigns, you hear a lot about BO1+2, the OG Modern Warfare trilogy, etc. I never see anybody talk about this game. Despite its dated graphics I think it holds up as one of the best campaigns of the series. As a kid with a PS2 and no internet connection I replayed the campaign multiple times, and watched all the special features. If it were to get a remaster or remake of any kind I would be first in line to buy it.

Anybody else remember this campaign and think it’s underrated?

After 14 years of playing

Been playing Minecraft since about 2012. Pocket Edition, PC, 360, Switch, and One/Series X. Finally got all achievements in the current version of Minecraft. Some of those achievements are unnecessarily grindy lol

Age for GTA 5 vs GTA 6

With the preorders for GTA 6 coming in two days, how old were y’all when GTA 5 came out vs when 6 will be? For reference, 5 came out September 17th, 2013, while 6 is set to release November 19th of this year. I was just shy of 14 when 5 released, and will be 27 when 6 does.

Also, any of you in this sub gonna be preordering or plan on playing the game?

On this day 14 years ago

June 20th, 2012, I officially bought Minecraft Java Edition and created my account. Crazy to think I’m still playing the game 14 years later.

What about all of you, who’s even earlier than me? And to any of the younger people in here, how old were you when I first bought the game lol

Where’s the cutoff

It’s the question I’ve seen time and time again in this and other subs: “Am I a 2000s kid if I was born in —?” Where do you personally draw the line to where somebody can no longer claim that title and are more 2010s kids? This can apply backwards as well to 90s kids, 80s kids, etc.

PS: please don’t take this too seriously. I think most of us in this group are civilized people, but some people take all of this WAY too seriously and get butthurt by the dumbest things. This is just a fun way to see what everybody thinks.

Life as a younger sibling?

I am the oldest sibling. My other two siblings are ‘05 and ‘08. That being said we have an even split between Early, Core, and Late Gen Z. I experienced the typical Zillennial childhood you hear about on here. My middle sibling had some similarities in his childhood, youngest sibling’s was pretty much entirely different. I was also pretty parentified from an early age, especially with my youngest sibling.

I’m curious to know, any of you Early Gen Z who are younger siblings, what was that like? I’d also be curious to know if your older sibling(s) give you crap for being Gen Z while they’re Millennial, because that seems to be a thing that happens a lot.

Found a picture of my desktop setup circa 2009

Holy 2000s. Found this picture looking at my house listing online from when it was sold in 2009. Turns out, the pictures from the listing are still there. Flooded me back with memories. Any of y’all have a similar setup to this back in the day?

Questions for the fans

How long have you been a fan? Also, most fond NFL-related memories? Mostly curious about those born in or around the late 90s like myself, but anyone can answer.

I’ve been a lifelong Bengals fan. Lived in the greater Cincinnati area most of my life, parents and grandparents always been Bengals fans. I played football in the fall of ‘06 and ‘07, and even on my little trading card from my ‘06 season I listed my favorite player as Chad Johnson. Definitely not a bandwagon fan from the 2021 and ‘22 seasons, most of my time as a fan they have sucked lol

Some of my fondest football-related memories are:
- playing football in ‘06 and ‘07
- visiting Indianapolis in ‘08 and checking out Lucas Oil Stadium. Peyton Manning everything at that time lol
- went to Bengals training camp in ‘09. Got signatures and pictures with several of the players, including Chris Henry (rip).
- not a good experience, but vividly remember watching them blow the 2015 Wild Card game against the Steelers.
- fast forward to adulthood, being at the game when the Bengals beat the Chiefs at home in 2022 was an awesome experience. Too bad they beat us in the AFC championship.

So how about you guys?

Questions for NFL watchers

What’s your favorite team, and how long have you been a fan? Also, most fond NFL-related memories?

I don’t have a specific reason for posting this, just curious about similar-aged people and what teams they like.

For myself, I’ve been a lifelong Bengals fan. Lived in the greater Cincinnati area most of my life, parents and grandparents always been Bengals fans. I played peewee football in the fall of ‘06 and ‘07, and even on my little trading card from my ‘06 season I listed my favorite player as Chad Johnson (Ochocinco). Definitely not bandwagon fan from the Burrow era, most of my time as a fan they have sucked lol

Some of my fondest football-related memories are:
- playing football in ‘06 and ‘07
- visiting Indianapolis in ‘08 and checking out Lucas Oil Stadium. Peyton Manning everything at that time lol
- went to Bengals training camp in ‘09. Got signatures and pictures with several of the players.
