We left Bangalore at midnight just to make coffee on top of a mountain

This morning, a bunch of Redditors left Bangalore around midnight with one simple plan reach the top of Nijagal Betta before sunrise.

None of us expected the best part of the trek to have nothing to do with the sunrise.

Somewhere on the hill, we stopped and brewed fresh filter coffee. Sitting on ancient fort ruins, passing around hot cups while the wind was blowing… that honestly became everyone’s favourite memory.

Then came Maggi on the hilltop, exploring caves and old fort walls, watching the first light slowly spread across the landscape, and spending hours with people who had been complete strangers just a few hours earlier.

By the time we got back to Bangalore, it didn’t feel like we’d attended a trek. It felt like we’d made a bunch of new friends.

That’s exactly why I started this trekking community. The goal isn’t to tick off famous places it’s to create weekends that people genuinely remember.

A community for people who get excited about discovering forgotten trails, hidden forts, offbeat places, spontaneous road trips, sunrise hikes, and the feeling of not knowing exactly what’s waiting around the next bend.

If you’re someone whose weekends are driven by curiosity rather than comfort, you’d fit right in.

Most treks are closed this weekend. Nijagal Betta isn’t. ⛰️

With permit restrictions affecting several popular treks around Bangalore this weekend, we thought we’d invite fellow Redditors to join us instead.

We’re heading to Nijagal Betta this Sunday for a sunrise trek. If you’ve never been there, it’s one of the most rewarding sunrise hikes near Bangalore, with rocky trails, ancient fort ruins, caves, a Hanuman temple, a Dargah, and panoramic views from the summit.

A quick overview:
📅 Date: Sunday, 5th July
📍 Destination: Nijagal Betta (~60 km from Bangalore)
🥾 Difficulty: Easy (Beginner-friendly)
📏 Distance: ~4 km (round trip)
⏱️ Duration: ~3 hours

Most people who join us come solo, so don’t worry if you’re coming alone. We trek as one group, nobody gets left behind, and the conversations during the drive are usually as memorable as the trek itself.

If your weekend plans got cancelled because of the permit restrictions or you’re simply looking to spend your Sunday outdoors instead of indoors we’d love to have you join us.

DM for Registration & WhatsApp Community links for future hikes

Happy to answer any questions in the comments. Hope to see a few fellow Redditors on Sunday! 😊

17 Redditors. One Sunday. Countless memories. 🏔️

Yesterday, 17 of us met before sunrise, left Bangalore while the city was still asleep, explored an offbeat trail near Krishnagiri, shared breakfast, clicked way too many photos, and spent the day with a bunch of strangers who quickly became friends.

One of my favourite things about these hikes is how easily conversations flow whether it’s during the drive, over breakfast, or while catching our breath on the trail. By the end of the day, everyone is already asking, “Where are we going next?” 😄

Here are a few glimpses from yesterday’s adventure. 📸
Over the past few months, this has grown into an active community of 2,000+ members, with regular weekend hikes around and beyond Bangalore.

I posted a trek invite on Reddit. 33 people actually showed up.

33 Redditors
7 cars
1 crazy Sunday adventure 🏔️

Yesterday, 33 of us met at 3:00 AM, piled into 7 cars, and headed out for a trek.

We watched the sunrise, explored an ancient fort, navigated challenging trails, shared snacks, laughed at random things, helped each other through difficult sections, and came back with new friends and some unforgettable memories.

What amazes me most is how Reddit can bring together people from completely different backgrounds who would probably never have met otherwise.

Many joined solo. Some were attending their first meetup ever. By the end of the day, nobody felt like a stranger.
A huge thank you to everyone who showed up and made it such a memorable experience. ❤️

We’re already planning the next adventure for next Sunday.

If you’ve been lurking on r/BangaloreMeetups thinking, “Maybe I’ll join someday” this is your sign.
Come for the trek.
Stay for the people.

DM me if you’d like to join the community for future treks and meetups.

20 Redditors signed up for a trek. Nobody expected this

Last Sunday, 20 Redditors signed up for what was supposed to be a simple fort trek near the Karnataka Andhra border.

Nobody expected what followed.

The day began with rain. Not the kind that makes you turn back, but the kind that makes the adventure better.

We climbed through misty trails, explored centuries old fort ruins, squeezed through hidden pathways, and spent part of the day figuring out where the actual trail even was. Every time we thought we’d seen the best part of the fort, we discovered another wall, another viewpoint, another forgotten section waiting to be explored.

One moment we were getting drenched in rain. The next, the clouds cleared and the entire landscape opened up around us. Then came the wind at the top, strong enough to make everyone stop and simply take it all in.

Some people joined without knowing anyone. By the end of the day, snacks were being shared, stories were being exchanged, and strangers had become trek buddies.

We came back with muddy shoes, hundreds of photos, and a lot more stories than we expected.

That’s what I love about offbeat adventures. You don’t just reach a destination you experience something you couldn’t have planned.

We’re heading out again this weekend to explore another lesser known trail.

If you’re looking for a different kind of Sunday, drop a comment or DM. 🧡

We hosted an all Guys trek this Sunday. It was absolute madness 😆

15 people
4 cars
1 offbeat hill

What started as a normal Sunday trek quickly turned into rock scrambling, trail hunting, wrong turns, thorn attacks, and a lot more adventure than anyone expected. 😆

Most of the group had never met before, but by the end of the day everyone was sharing snacks, stories, and laughing about our questionable navigation decisions.

This trek was absolutely chaotic in the best way possible.
Sharing some photos from the madness 📸

A random dog joined us, villagers warned us about elephants, and we still kept walking

A few months ago, most of us were complete strangers.

Now we’re voluntarily waking up at unreasonable hours and wandering around random hills together.
Last weekend was one of those days.

The original plan was simple: explore an old hill, check out some ruins, enjoy the views, and head back.

Instead, we somehow ended up doing a full hill circuit of nearly 10 km.We spent hours exploring old fort walls, hidden pathways, watchtowers, ruins, and random structures that looked like they belonged in a different century. We’d spot something far away and immediately decide, “Let’s go see what’s there.”

At one point, villagers warned us that elephants had been spotted in the area that very morning.

Most sensible people would probably reconsider. We discussed it for approximately 30 seconds and continued walking. 😅

Then a random dog appeared.Nobody knew where he came from, but he decided he was part of the group and accompanied us for almost the entire trek.

The funniest part?

We started from one village and somehow finished in a completely different village.By the end of the day everyone was exhausted, covered in dust, and already talking about the next hike.

What started as a way to escape Bangalore for a few hours has become one of the best parts of my weekends.
It’s funny how quickly strangers become friends when you put them on a trail together.

Anyone else here spend their weekends doing slightly questionable adventures with people they met on the internet?

Requesting guidance from the Isha community for my younger brother

I’m posting here with a genuine request for guidance regarding my younger brother (20).

Over the past few years, he slowly developed severe online gambling addiction issues and repeatedly stole money from home. In August 2025, things became much worse he stole gold ornaments, laptops from our house, sold them, and later ran away from home. He was missing for almost 10 months and has only returned home today.

During all this, he had also shown suicidal tendencies earlier, and now after returning he seems addicted to alcohol and smoking as well. Mentally he looks very lost, unstable, emotionally disconnected, and without direction in life.

Our family is emotionally exhausted, but we still want to help him rebuild himself before he destroys his life completely. We are also considering psychiatric help, but since I’m from Mysore and close to Isha activities, I wanted to ask here sincerely.

Can someone from the Isha community guide us regarding whether there is:

-any suitable program for someone in this condition,
-volunteering/work opportunities in the Isha environment,
-residential stays,
-beginner courses,
-or anyone who can personally guide him toward discipline, stability, and inner balance?

I know no spiritual environment can magically change someone overnight, and ultimately he also has to be willing to change himself. But right now we are desperately trying to help him move away from destructive habits and influences.

If anyone has genuine experience or contacts who may help guide us, please let me know. I would truly appreciate it.

Late night drive + sunrise hike + lake dip + Chiblu idlis

Doing a Kunti Betta sunrise hike this Sunday 24th May from Mysore.

The plan is basically:
leave early morning→ climb before sunrise → chill at the top half asleep watching sunrise → jump into the nearby lake after the hike → come back and destroy hot chiblu idlis 😂💛

Most of us are just random people trying to escape the usual weekend routine for a few hours honestly.

Nothing too commercial or serious.
Just good vibes, random conversations and a peaceful sunrise with good people ⛰️

If anyone from Mysore wants to join, let me know.

Bangalore felt lonely at first. So I started inviting strangers for treks.

Around a year back, I used to spend most of my weekends trekking alone around Bangalore.

I wasn’t trying to build a community or start anything big. I just genuinely loved exploring hills, especially the offbeat ones where there are no crowds, no noise and sometimes not even proper trails 😭

A lot of weekends were just me randomly searching for hidden hills, talking to locals, getting lost halfway, finding sunrise spots and coming back home tired but peaceful.

One day I randomly thought:

instead of doing this alone every weekend, why not ask if some strangers from Reddit would like to join too?

That’s literally how all this started.

In the beginning we were just 5–6 people going on bikes to random hills around Bangalore.

Then came the carpool phase where car owners used to disappear the night before treks with legendary excuses 😂

Eventually we shifted to Travellers.

And honestly somewhere along the way this stopped becoming just about trekking.

People who joined alone started becoming friends.

Random strangers started sharing life stories during 3AM Traveler rides.

Awkward introductions slowly turned into inside jokes, mafia games, tea stop conversations and weekend memories.

The craziest part is…

today that one random WhatsApp group somehow crossed 1000 people.

And what I love most is that most of our hikes are still the same raw offbeat trails around Bangalore & beyond.

Many times it’s literally just our group on the entire hill watching the sunrise.

No commercial crowd.

No tourist chaos.

Just mountains, sleepy faces, random conversations and good people 💛

Honestly never expected one random Reddit post and a love for trekking to turn into this.

Bangalore can feel weirdly lonely sometimes, especially when you move here alone.

I think maybe that’s why this community slowly became special for many of us.

Strangers walking into a trek and leaving with memories, friendships and stories was probably never something I planned.

But I’m grateful it happened.

If anyone here loves offbeat hikes, adventure or just wants to meet good people and escape city routine once in a while, you’re always welcome to join us ⛰️💛>!!<

Strangers from Reddit, Ended up becoming a Survival Team in Krishnagiri Forest🏔️

What started with a single post and a few strangers from this subreddit has now grown into a community of thousands exploring together across weekends.

This weekend hike was one of the craziest ones till date.

No trails. No guides. No routes on maps.
Just strangers from this subreddit pushing through thorny shrubs, clearing paths with our own hands, navigating through dense terrain, discovering forgotten ruins, and finding our own route to the peak.

At multiple points, we genuinely didn’t know whether a route even existed ahead of us but somehow everyone kept going.

This wasn’t a normal “weekend trek.” It felt like real exploration, chaos, teamwork, adventure, and memories with complete strangers who slowly became friends midway through the hike.

If you’re someone sitting at home every weekend wanting to explore more, meet new people, and experience adventures beyond cafés and malls DM me to Join us on our next Adventure.
