Help me build a 5 days itinerary for Shanghai

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a 5-day solo trip to Shanghai soon and wanted to see if anyone here has visited recently as a solo traveller.
Since it’s my first time going solo to China, I’d love to get some first-hand advice and recommendations on a few things:

Halal Food & Muslim-Friendly Dining: Any recommended authentic Halal restaurants or street food areas? (I’ve heard about Huxi Mosque area and Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles, but looking for personal favorites or must-try spots).
Must-See Attractions: What would you prioritize for a 5-day itinerary? (The Bund, Yu Garden, Shanghai Tower, French Concession, etc.)

Getting Around (Metro/Trains): How smooth is the metro system for English speakers? Which apps should I set up beforehand for transit and payments?

Shopping: Best areas for shopping, electronics, streetwear, or souvenirs without falling into overpriced tourist traps?

SIM Card & Internet: Did you buy a physical SIM at the airport, use an eSIM (like Airalo/Holafly), or rely on roaming? Which option worked best for accessing everyday apps without hassle?

Any practical tips on solo navigation, apps to download before flying, or general dos and don'ts would be massively appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Visiting Bangladesh in December – Looking to Make Friends & Explore

Hey everyone!
I’m planning to visit Bangladesh this December and thought it would be nice to connect with some people before I arrive.
I’m looking to make a friend (or a few) who’d be interested in hanging out, showing me around, exploring different places, trying amazing local food, visiting historical sites, and just experiencing Bangladesh beyond the usual tourist spots.
I’m open to short-term friendships too—just good company while I’m there. I’m easygoing, respectful, and enjoy meeting new people and learning about different cultures.

A bit about me:
27M
Originally from Bangladesh but have lived abroad for years.
Currently based in the UAE.

I enjoy history, street food, cafés, photography, long drives, and meaningful conversations.
If you think we’d get along or have recommendations on places I shouldn’t miss, feel free to comment or send me a DM.
Looking forward to visiting and experiencing Bangladesh properly this time!

Dear LAK,

It’s my birthday today.

I turned 27, and somehow the number feels heavier than I thought it would.
I saw a photo of you celebrating your sister’s birthday. Hers is on the 23rd, mine is on the 24th. Such a small detail, but tonight it hit harder than it should have.

The truth is, I don’t even know if I miss you, or if I miss the version of myself that existed when I still believed life would turn out differently.

A lot has changed since then.
I’ve lost years to grief, anger, alcohol, loneliness, and regret. Some of it was done to me, a lot of it was done by me. I’ve spent countless nights wondering where the ambitious, confident person I used to be disappeared to.

I wish I could tell you I’ve figured everything out.

I haven’t.

Some days I’m hopeful. Some days I feel like I’m rebuilding. Other days I feel like I’m standing in the ruins of choices I can never take back.

Tonight is one of those nights.

I think what hurts most is not that you’re gone.

It’s knowing that life kept moving.

People celebrated birthdays.
Families gathered.
Friends laughed.
Years passed.

And somehow I stayed in the same place emotionally, replaying old memories like they were happening in real time.

I don’t write this because I expect anything from you.

You don’t owe me a response.
You don’t owe me your presence.
You don’t owe me a place in your life.

I think I just wanted to admit that despite all the time that has passed, a small part of me still remembers.

Not because I can’t move on.

But because some people become landmarks in our lives.

Even when we stop visiting them.

I hope you’re happy.

And I hope one day I stop measuring my life against ghosts
