Need-Based Grant Cancelled?

Hi! I was recently admitted and my financial aid letter granted me loans, 2 need-based grants, and federal work study. I declined the loans and accepted everything else. Yesterday I got an email saying to check my offer as it was revised due to “Financial Aid Terms and Conditions.” I looked and my grants were cancelled! I read through the terms and conditions and I didn’t see anything that could explain this change, and I’ve been calling the financial aid office all day but nobody picks up the phone. I also sent an email yesterday that hasn’t been responded to yet. While I wait for a response, does anybody know why this may have happened?

Looking for roommate in the Honors LLC (Tampa)!

Hey everyone! I’m a first-year student who was admitted to USF for Mass Communications: News & Content Creation, and I will live in the Honors LLC @ the Tampa campus this fall. I’m looking for a roommate who is a girl (or gender queer if they allow it, all are welcome here!) and is also opting to live in the LLC.

A little about me: 18 y/o African-American girl & OOS student, but I’m very familiar with the Tampa Bay area as I used to live around here! I tend to keep a neat area & I can bring a mini-fridge! Please reach out if you’re interested (or if you know anybody who is interested)!

How to get better financial aid as an OOS student?

Hey everyone! I’m a recently admitted OOS student and UMD was my top choice. It is an amazing school for me and one of the best in the nation for my major. However, the financial aid I just got is terrifyingly bad. I don’t have a negative SAI, but it’s pretty low and results in a need of about 56000 for a COA of approximately 64000. But the finaid office only offered me federal loans! No work study or grants or anything, both of which I qualified for at every other school I got into.

I do have an affordable backup school ready, but I have committed to Maryland since I found out I got in around April 28 with the deadline being May 1st (submitted a successful admissions appeal after being rejected EA). I really didn’t want to lose my spot even though I didn’t know how they would treat my financial aid. I didn’t expect a full ride or anything, but I at least wanted something that didn’t seem completely dismissive of my financial situation.

I plan to appeal for work study and submit an overall finaid appeal (I have siblings in college that FAFSA didn’t account for), but are there any other ways to make UMD affordable as an out of state student? I don’t want to give up until I’ve exhausted all other options.

Thank you so much in advance!
