Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my absolute favorite find of the year. I spotted this beautiful mid-century cherub mini lamp at a local thrift store today for only $20 and couldn't leave without it.
Upon inspection, I turned the base over and verified the authentic raised "L&L WMC" factory lettering along with the mold number "8551" sharply stamped into the rim. The raw, unpainted casting on the interior of the base is a heavy, bright silver white-metal/pot metal, while the exterior holds its gorgeous original antiqued bronze patina finish. The base alone weighs in at a hefty 43 ounces!
The real miracle here is the frosted pink hobnail-textured glass shade. There isn’t a single scratch inside or out, and every single strand of the delicate pink and white glass beaded fringe appears to be fully intact and original—no snapped wires or loose ends.
I just finished giving the shade a very careful wipe-down using a highly diluted mixture of warm water and organic plant-based Castile soap, dried it immediately with a clean microfiber cloth, and popped a low-heat LED candelabra bulb inside. The warm, diffused glow coming through the frosted pink glass is simply stunning.
I do think that it might be missing a small piece around the shade and harp attach.

Found a pristine vintage L&L WMC Cherub Lamp with the original pink beaded fringe completely intact for only $20! 😭

I honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price tag. I carefully checked every single strand of the pink and white glass bead fringe and none are broken. Flipped it over and confirmed it’s a genuine mid-century L&L WMC #8551 cast base—heavy as a brick! I just finished cleaning the frosted shade gently with a bit of dilute Castile soap, popped a bulb in, and I am totally obsessed. Easily my favorite score of the year.

Tips on restoring my grandmother’s Heywood-Wakefield Two-Tier End/Side Table and dresser

I inherited these two pieces in ‘08 from my grandmother who bought them when they moved into their first home in OKC back in ‘49 mol. The end table had a water spill on the top which cracked the finish but the wood seems fine. The bottom shelf might have some discoloration from water not sure. But some scratches for sure. Dresser is mostly just dirty I think from years of dusting. I don’t wanna f/(k this up because I intend to keep passing this down the line. It’s high quality and my gawd is it solid! I want to restore it to its original glory. It’s never been retouched so at least I have that going for me.

Baby bluejay is gonna be ok

I had new gutters installed on the front of my house and unknowingly, They cut down a 10 year-old Caroline Jasmine vine inside that vine was a blue Jay nest. I found the baby almost a fledgling a couple of days after the vine was removed and I found an abandoned nest from a red trumpet vine in my backyard. I took that nest put it into a hanging basket that I already had. It fit perfectly in there, and then I hung the basket in around the same height and area where it’s nest had already been and it’s been three days now it looks like the baby‘s gonna be OK I’ve seen both parents come and hang out on the porch where they were before. I’m very excited. I think he’s gonna be OK. I did NOT give the baby anything other than a new nest.

Inherited my grandmother’s lamp and I want to show it off

This lamp belonged to my grandmother from her mother somewhere around the early 1920’s I think. I no longer have the original shade. One of my dogs knocked it off and the shade turned to powder. Not even shards, just powder lol. The ladies also broke off so I had to have it re-welded together. I recently refinished it too. I just love this lamp.

My blooming alter.

I’m just now getting back into everything and this is my first alter. Each piece has a story and is connected to me. It makes me feel peaceful. I am hanging a large wood mirror from late 1880s over it later. Is anything missing? Like I said I’m just now starting over. I refinished the table specifically for this as well.

1976 or 77 Woodward, OK

Me skating at my grandmas house in front of their van and my dad’s van in the street. You remember the kind that had those crazy big pipes that ran down the bottom step rails? I burned my legs on those so often.

Finally found them

It took me a while but I finally found the color and style of Raggedy Ann that I remembered from my youth. My doll was much smaller but when I found one this size and in the “right” color and apron fabric for me I grabbed her. Then just a month later Andy was at another store!

Bunion or something to do with my osteoarthritis?

56 yo female 5’7” and 151. I have been diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my feet as well as everywhere else. I wore a pair of my orthopedic loafers and at the end of the day a large bump had developed on the outside of my pinky tie and just keeps getting a little bigger. Google says bunion. Cant get in to get it fixed for a while. Can i use those bunion pads and a looser pair of orthopedic shoes? No numbness and it hurts. Mother and grandmother have a history of bunions.

Circa 1908, my family moving from KS to OK

My relatives stopping along the road to take a photo postcard. It was fairly common at the time. It reads. We look like we all was drunk, but we was right in the sun. Don’t that dog look like Dan he sure is good, but he won’t be very long as the folks spoil him too much. This is the way we live out west oh you get use to anything and everything. It sure is like living though out here.

Vintage chair restoration

I bought this chair at a thrift shop a few months ago and I’m just now getting around to brighten it up or spruce it up. I found new fabric for it, a red velvet that I’m in love with because this monstrosity needs to go, but I’m curious if anyone has any tips and or advice for this. I’ve noted an obvious crack in the chair back towards the top and obvious signs of where on edges and corners. I have cleaned it with some warm water and Castile soap only and that’s about it. I haven’t touched anything else I wasn’t sure about the finish on this. What I could find on Google said that I should not try to do anything to the finish on this chair, but I’m thinking maybe I need to.

Today is my house buying anniversary- built in 1954

I bought this house 11 yrs ago knowing it had great bones. They had the worst carpet in the house but what my contractor found underneath was gorgeous. More than 10 yrs later and my floors still look perfect. I do have a question though if anyone can help. I’ve got a very worn area on the floor that looks like prints. Can I buff out and use a wipe on poly?

Is this Native American crafted?

I have had this ring forever! It’s very small so I think it must have been given to me when we lived in SunCity, AZ back in 1974. No marks of any kind and it’s non magnetic. I would really love to know more. My mother and bio father had many native friends at that time so I believe it’s possible.

My grandmother as a lifeguard in 1932

My grandmother was a lifeguard in El Reno, OK probably around 1932. As you can tell she was just a little tan. No sunscreen back then.

Discarded by the road

Picked this up on the side of a neighborhood road in Oklahoma City during big trash week. My Google search says it’s probably from 1920-1940 but thought maybe someone here might have a better idea. It appears to be in great shape except for some tears on the underside of the seat cushion which I can repair. I can tell there was a mfg stamp on the underside fabric but it’s very faded and I can’t make it out. It’s solid! Minor wiggle and that wonderful creak you hear with older pieces.
