Unfathomable contradiction: Natalists who suffer themselves

You know, I’ve always found those who either have been or are currently suffering severely and are in strong support of procreation nevertheless, or even want children themselves, to be the strangest people to exist. Especially those who even complain about the injustices of the world constantly and whatnot.

So you want to bring someone else into this world fully aware of not only what the world can be like but also what it really means to suffer like that? Notwithstanding this knowledge, you want to subject someone else to this risk??? Why??

Like natalists who are toxically positive and deluded all the time, at least their natalism is just born from ignorance. But those people? They aren’t ignorant, they just procreate regardless. I think this actually adds to the base immorality.

Hinge? More like UN-hinged! Dogs everywhere…

AHHH I’m going mad!!! I’m scrolling through a halfway decent profile, thinking “oh wow, we have a lot in common, he seems very nice, has matching interests, isn’t too far away”, and what awaits me at the bottom??? A dog. What a fucking surprise 🙄🙄!

Okay, never mind, next profile, oh what do we have here? A DOG!! Brilliant, next one, “oh, thank goodness, finally a profile without a performative dog phot- oh wait what is that? His life goal is to… ‘STROKE EVERY SINGLE DOG ON THE PLANET’!! Ah of bloody course!!! Why don’t you go and date one at this point:)?”

No but seriously, this can’t be healthy. Every. Single. Bloody. Profile!!! I knew the UK is a dog-obsessed country, but fucking hell!!! Get a grip. Rant over 🙄.

Using Hinge as an antinatalist

One guy literally complained about being “a wage slave at [company]” in his bio, but just a few scrolls further: “Want kids”. You can’t make that shit up.

Will this roof support my weight?

For context, I want to clean my window from the outside but can’t possibly reach all the angles from the inside. So I figured I could climb through my window onto the roof and clean it from there.

The roof belongs to the flat below, so it’s not a garage or shed or anything. It appears to be wrapped in some plastic wrap.

I weigh approximately 9 st 11 lb or 62 kg.

AI said I shouldn’t step on it.

Edit: sigh I’m a girl, guys. Not everyone is a man 🙄.

If you want to feel more connected with fellow ANs…

I just wanted to remind you that I host a discord server for UK as well as international antinatalists from all across the globe for not only philosophical discussion but also casual conversation and perhaps even meaningful connections. Ever since its creation it has risen greatly in member numbers without having become excessively big.

I have also strongly revised the rules and the organisation of the server ever since to ensure an even better experience.

We would be so happy to welcome some new members:)! 🤗

You must be 18 to join. If you’re in the UK, France or Brazil, age assurance via ID or age estimation will be required.

‘Duty to rescue’ around the world

Duty to rescue = Statutory obligation for ordinary citizens to render aid to a stranger in an emergency, failure to do so is a criminal offence (except Quebec, where it is a civil offence); No duty to rescue under common law, except if there is a special relationship (e.g. parent/child) or if the emergency had been created by the bystander themself or if the bystander has already commenced rescue measures.

Good Samaritan law = legal protection for those voluntarily rendering aid, such as immunity from civil liability

Edit: China: de jure GS laws in place, de facto no meaningful protections

Survey results: Most ANs suffering-based, lean left and find it important that their partner shares their beliefs

Thank you so much for all those who have already done the survey. Please follow this link to view all results in real-time (view on desktop if it can be helped). Below are some key results we got so far.

Tip for mobile users: In fullscreen mode, double tap the images. This will increase the resolution.

Highlights (sample size n=27)

Key demographics:
- Most respondents were between 18 and 25 (66.7%)
- A slight majority was of male gender (51.9%)
- Most respondents were white (55.6%)
- A relative majority identified as heterosexual (44.4%) but non-heterosexual respondents were in the majority by .1% when accumulated, this equals a sexual marginalisation rate of 44.5% in the sample
- A relative majority was from the United States (29.6%), followed by the United Kingdom (25.9%)

Antinatalism-related:
- Most respondents based their beliefs on suffering or on suffering and consent equally (both 37% each)
- 63.0% said it is ‘extremely important’ that their spouse shares their beliefs. 55.6% said the same about their partner
- An overwhelming majority viewed religion negatively (85.2%)
- 0% harboured positive feelings towards natalists and work
- Most viewed birthdays neutrally (66.7%)
- A slight majority believed antinatalism implies veganism (55.6%)

Depression:
- Most respondents are currently suffering from depression (63.0%), another 25.9% once did

Substance use:
- An absolute majority does neither drink, smoke, nor use other substances

Overall happiness:
Most respondents are either fairly or extremely unhappy in life (55.5%)

These findings are not to be understood or misconstrued as representative of all antinatalists.

How do your AN beliefs influence your everyday life? (Survey)

Hello, fellow ANs, I was thinking that perhaps it would be interesting to learn how everyone here came to antinatalism, what our backgrounds are, and how important our beliefs are in everyday life, and how they influence our views on other issues in life. I created this fully anonymous survey (no sign-in), and I would be very happy if some of you could take part. I would also share the results of the survey here on the sub with you.

No identifying information will be requested, and all questions are voluntary. Please only take part if you're at least 18, as this survey is designed for adults.

If this gets automatically removed, could any of the mods please review the survey and perhaps reinstate the post? That would be super nice, thank you:)

I’ve always been a huge fan of Marina and the Diamonds, but I only now realised how perfectly this song lines up with my antinatalist beliefs. It’s about the inherent violent nature of humans and all the suffering coming with existence. It’s like my personal antinatalist anthem.

It also questions how humans often only do what is built “into their DNA”, just like procreating.
