Does anyone have any experience with HypLern or their interlinear books?
I recently came across HypLern's books, which have one line in one language and then the translation in English as the next line, and so on. This seems very useful to me! However, I saw that one of their Dutch books has an A.I.-generated cover. This leads me to worry that all their books are just written in English and then translated to the other languages.
Does anyone have any experience with HypLern? Or anyone that can direct me to verify their validity or verify their creation processes?
Are there any great fantasy books that are easy to get in the USA, but hard in the EU?
Currently on holiday, but still planning to hit up bookshops. Got limited luggage space though, so figured I’d aim for books I can’t get at home.
Are there any lesbian books that are easy to get in the USA that are hard to get in the EU?
Gf’s on a trip and offered to shop for me. Figured I’d ask her to look for stuff I can’t otherwise get at home. (:
How old are dice outside of the cube-shaped six-sided d6? Where were they used?
The six-sided die (d6) and oddly-shaped stuff like sheep’s knucklebones used for the same purposes as dice have—to my knowledge—been invented and used in basically every civilization.
But where did the d4, d8, d10, d12, d20 and other dice come from? Are these other-sided dice just purely modern, 20th-century inventions? Or do they have a longer history?
System with best dueling mechanics?
I'm looking to play some games with samurai duels, gunslinger duels, jousts, gladiator fights and other duels.
This is for a game group with 3-7 players (3 always show up, 4 that can't always make it, so it fluctuates) so we don't want to spend a very long time on each duel (especially for cases where they all might have duels at the same time or in short succession), but still have the option to give a duel a lot of narrative and emotional weight (like when finally facing the target of your revenge).
Anyone have any recommendations you could explain a bit?
“Gestalt” Aasimar Cleric DnD 2014 build advice?
In a campaign we are doing Gestalt, which is where our characters have two classes at the same time and take the best or strongest features of both whenever there’s anything both classes give—highest Hit Die for example, so a level 5 character still has level 5 hp but the abilities of two classes. If both sides are spellcasters then they still have only the spell slots of one (excepting Warlock).
One side of this I’m going cleric. Undecided which domain. Peace is banned.
I’m looking to build a resilient and powerful character, but I’m not good with synergistic builds myself. Anyone got advice for what domain to combine with which other class and subclass?
Sourcebooks: 2014 PHB, XGE, TCE.
Best physical copies of Manhua sold in the EU?
I’ve read a lot of manga and European bande dessinée and American graphic novels. I’d like to get into reading manhua and I prefer physical copies of books over digital. What are the best places to get them in the EU? And which manhua that have physical copies available would you recommend?
Why don’t RPGs put a character sheet example in the rulebook?
So often I read a new TTRPG book and love it, but then find out that there’s no example of a character sheet anywhere in the book. I find that such an example is one of the best things to help explain what a game is about and keep things together in your head for why any particular rule matters or how it relates to the player experience. Since all my play is offline and away from the internet, this is extra frustrating since I can’t easily show a character sheet to players.
I haven’t been able to find any justification for this practice. Why is this done?
And what RPGs have been put together *with* a character sheet example inside their rulebook?
EDIT: I mean as in an empty character sheet, like what your own would look like before filling it in. Something easy to copy over. Although a filled-in example would be very helpful too.
EDIT 2: RPGs I’ve got that don’t have that include:
- D&D 5e
- all my PbtA games
- all my FitD games
- all my CfB games
- all my Borg games
- Dungeon Crawl Classics
- Worlds Without Number
- Dragonbane
Are there any OSR systems that only use d6s? Especially roll-under systems?
I’m playing in a place where dice other than d6s are prohibitively expensive, so I want to try find more systems that only use d6s. I know plenty of trad games (Free League’s stuff, Shadowrun), narrative games (PbtA stuff, FATE) and one-pagers (Honey Heist, Lasers and Feelings) that use d6s, but I don’t know any OSR games that do.
Is there an RPG which only uses d6s, has degrees of success, and which doesn't require doing addition every roll?
I'm playing with players in a country where dice sets are hard to acquire. d6s are common. We like degrees of success. The majority of the players have dyscalculia, so they have a lot of trouble adding numbers together, but comparing something to a quick metric (like Call of Cthulhu's "roll and compare result to your stat") is easy.
We'd like to find RPGs that would very well suit this group for a short campaign or two.
RPGs where equipping a weapon determines your class and abilities?
I'm looking for RPGs where class and resulting abilities largely are centered around the use of a specific weapon or type of weapon. In Western RPGs, a class usually can use a variety of weapons, but I know that in some MMORPGs and JRPGs and some other types of RPGs, a character equipping a specific type of weapon will get their class and abilities determined by that type of weapon.
What recommendations do you all have for me?
I am a veteran of RPGs across all forms of media, and I have access to a good PC, a PS4, PS3, PS2, Nintendo Switch 1, GameCube and SNES.
I like giving my players direct access to books I use as a GM, but most books have game rules and math in them. I want to hand them books from my shelf that look like books their characters could gain access to, especially in pre-modern settings (historical, fantasy or retro-futuristic sci-fi).
Books of settings, spells, martial arts, monsters, mushrooms, food, cooking, drinks, architecture, culture, nature, etc.
I noticed I had a cold sore 19 days ago. It burst, scabbed over, scabs fell off and it started to heal. It’s been a different colour than the rest of my lips since then and has been this way for about 10 days.
I’ve been trying to figure out if at this point it is safe to kiss someone else again. Some sources say “wait until it is healed, but discoloration may remain after healing”, while other sources say “it is not healed until everything is the same colour”.
