12 month regression?

We've always followed possums and were having quite a good time of sleep (1-2 wakes) until 11 months. Suddenly seemingly overnight baby wouldnt settle on his own, is waking 4+ times and standing and jumping in the cot. Im exhausted and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. I feel we need to do something to help him learn to resettle himself but dont want to do any sort of controlled crying. Has anyone been through this and have any tips?

Underlying issues causing sleep issues?

Just wondering if anyone has found underlying issues affecting sleep?

12mo was sleeping pretty well then overnight 4 weeks ago waking every sleep cycle. Moved to 1 nap etc etc. Sits up and eventually stands and jumps in cot very upset. Goes down independently and EXHAUSTED.

Something feels off to me as we havent had a good night since and the change was so sudden and prolonged.

Wake 7:15

If 2 nap day then 15 mins at 10:30

Nap 2 1hr 15 at 2pm

Bed 9:15

In own room, settles independently, does not expect milk (we are mid night weaned, last night was first night he had no milk but its made no difference)

12 month old sleep suddenly awful

My baby was sleeping quite well (1-2 quick wakes) untila a month ago. Overnight, he went to 4+ wakes, but is quickly settled when taken out of the cot and cuddled. He's happy to settle without milk but quite often will wake 5 minutes after being laid down ans the process starts again.

My gut instinct is telling me there is something more going on here. He's been checked for an ear infection (but only visually, no tympanotery), I have changed his schedule to one nap, he goes down very tired and falls asleep himself, seems very exhausted and falls asleep quickly at these wakes.

I have wondered if its low iron, but he is an otherwise energetic child. My gut instinct is telling me there is more going on but struggling to find any other suggestions. Thanks.

12 month sleep struggles

My baby has always been ok with the cot, and up to about a month ago was sleeping ok with only 1 or 2 wakes. We're now up to 3 or 4, despite moving to 1 nap, reducing day sleep etc etc.

He has gone from being able to roll over and go to sleep (granted, we would let him get extremely tired before bed) to needing to fall asleep in arms but waking and standing and crying as soon as we try to put him in the cot. Once hes 95% asleep in arms you can transfer him. He is not fed to sleep.

He will also wake from daytime naps, sit up and look around then stand and start crying/jumping, never lies there babbling like I hear of other babies doing (and he used to on occasion).

Im also aware each and every sleep training/aid resource is going to tell me to leave him to cry. Ive tried 10 minutes with me singing in the room, shush patting and unless he is exhausted enough, he escalates. I wont leave him to cry.

Do I just need to push him to the point of exhaustion every night? Is there something i can do to make him hate being in his cot less? As i said, not that long ago we were getting 7-9 hour stretches, and i dont know what's changed.

Prior to 1 nap transition he was having nearly a 7 hour final wake window and 9-10pm bedtime.

Now on 1 nap he is more like

Wake 7am

Nap 12-1:30

Bed 8:30-9

Im back to work in a month and worried about how I'll cope.

12 month old multiple wakes

Baby just turned 1 year. We've had some good stretches with only 1 wake but are back to 3x a night and im struggling. We've played with nap times and reducing sleep (one day he only had 50 mins of day sleep) but nothing seems to make a difference, so im beginning to wonder if theres something else going on. I will occasionally see him sit up and lie back down, but other wakes he will begin to cry and stand in the cot. He can be comforted quite quickly with a quick cuddle and rock, but I am struggling with the exhaustion.

Wake around 7-730

First nap capped below 20 mins around 10:30

Second nap 12:30-2

Or if he looks like he'll manage, 1 nap around 11:45-1:30pm

Night feeds only post 5am, wakes around midnight and 3am (but no real pattern)

Dad has recently managed to get him to lie in til 8am or later, made no difference to wakes but maybe he does need more sleep?

Either way, I would love to get some longer stretches/less wakes, especially if he doesnt need feeds. I know some wakes are normal, but given he can settle himself at some id love to work out what makes some different.

Random night wakes, 12 months

Baby is nearly 1. He only needs 1 feed at night, usually after 4am. He has slept through a few times. Some nights he wont wake until then, others he will wake multiple times crying and can only be soothed (but very very quickly) with a cuddle and sometimes sip of water. He will almost always wake up between 4am and wake time (7am).

We're trialling 1 nap when it looks like he can make it in the morning wake window, but otherwise capping the morning nap. 24 hr sleep totals 11.5, bedtime is 9pm, no more than 2 hrs day sleep, usually 1.5.

Im struggling with such broken sleep and desperate for a solution which doesn't leave him crying but also doesnt just hope for the best. Thanks!

1 year old bedroom requirements

My baby has only just gone into his own bedroom and its not quite ready for him. What are some must haves in there?

So far he has his cot and chest of drawers, im thinking we need a chair (for me) and bookshelf.

We used to do his whole bedtime routine on our bed, now im getting him changed etc on a sheepskin on the floor, but not sure if theres a better option?

Its quite a small room!

Whats wrong with this schedule? 12 months, desperate for improvement

Baby is almost 12 months. We saw some real improvement down to 1 or 2 wakes with capping 1st nap at 20 mins, and it brought bedtime back from 10pm to more like 9pm, but bedtime has become a battle again, even with a final wake window of 6.5 hours. He will fall asleep very quickly if rocked but will get very upset in the cot where he used to quite happily be put down and roll over to sleep.

I think the answer is to move to 1 nap but he really struggles in the morning by 3 hours and often falls asleep feeding. The 1 nap day on the 19th he did himself but made no difference to nighttime. Today hes only had 1hr 20 naps as he woke early and bedtime was still a battle.

I think some of these multiple wakes are due to teething this week, as his top teeth are coming in, but even on a good night we are getting 2 wakes.

I decided to start slowly night weaning last night by rocking back to sleep (he is bf and does not tolerate shortening the length of feed).

We are still room sharing, white noise.

Im back to work soon and need an improvement!

Eta: 11:22, 1 hr 50 naps, 9hr 30 nights.

Rate my 2 to 1 transition schedule

11 months old, we were finding bedtime getting really late as baby seems to need 6 hours between bed and the final nap and fighting if any longer.

Currently - wake 7:30 am

First nap capped at 20 mins - 10-1020am

Second nap 1pm - 230pm (or whenever he wakes)

Bedtime - 5.5 to 6 hrs later, somewhere between 8:30 and 9:30 ideally

Schedule is fairly flexible, my main effort is capping the first nap, and will move to 15 then 10 minutes over the next couple of weeks.

My only concern is he seems to be reallt struggling to make the first nap, he used to go 3-4hrs but now is getting fussy and passing out after 2.5 - 3 hrs. This feels ok, as it means the second nap is happening at a sensible time, but im wondering how he'll then cope when we drop the morning nap?

Night wakes are still stuck at 2, 1 if we're lucky. Id like to get consistently down to 1 (or ideally none!).

Time to drop to 1 nap?

Almost 11 months old, wakes 6:45, first nap 3.5-4 hours after (usually 30 mins), second nap usually 3 hours after that (for anything from 45 - 90 mins) he seems to really struggle with that window) but bedtime needs to be 5.5-6 hours later or its a complete fight. (So 3.5/3-3.5/6) Bedtime is usually 9:30 but sometimes even later, 1 or 2 wakes. Objectively its not a bad schedule, I am just struggling with the late nights and I know he is often tired, just perhaps not quite tired enough. He doesnt do sleepy cues at all (currently 9:45 and he is the happiest most energetic baby youve ever seen) until he's completely crashed out. Not sleep trained but sleeps independently.

Interested on peoples thoughts!

Right to work pattern after maternity leave

Im returning to work (9-5 office job) after 12 months maternity. Its a new role (in the same wider team) as my previous role was made redundant after I left due to a restructure. I had an informal conversation with the Director on booking nursery days etc and she said as we had no idea what the new setup would look like, to book what worked for me and my partner.

On returning, I am planning to drop 7 hrs from my schedule. Previously I worked 5 days in 4.5, taking a shorter day on a friday. Under the new schedule, I have requested to work 4 days in 3.5, dropping monday and keeping my short day on friday. Ive been told in informal conversations (with manager, not director) that this wont be possible, as of the 4 sub- team members, myself and another returning from mat leave both want friday afternoon off, the manager has Fridays fully off and its not possible to have only 1 person working on friday in case of sickness leave etc. The other mat leave returnee previously worked on Mondays.

I have childcare booked, my partner has arranged with his work accordingly. I have put in an official request, but was wondering where I legally stand with this, given I already had a short day on friday (formally) written into my contract.

Thanks

What should I do? Nearly 10 months.

Where am I going wrong?

Baby is 9.5 months. Bedtime routine is a few minutes of baby einstein aquarium then white noise, but tbh, I dont think he needs the white noise any more. Is not fed to sleep.

We have one pretty good night a week, but are otherwise fairly consistently stuck at 90 min/hourly wakes post 4am then up for the day 7:30ish (its a bit looser at the moment as we're travelling, but in a camper so environment is the same). I understand these are probably habitual wakes, but any attempt to shorten the feeds or to resettle is usually met with a lot of angry crying/thrashing or wakes every 5 mins after, when ive tried to move to a 5/3/3 schedule, and ive chosen to feed rather than battle for an hour.

Dad will help if I can convince him it will work.

Follow baby's sleepy cues, he can usually manage 3.25/3.5/5 but he can be quite a short napper (sure its all connected) so these are less after a short nap.

Total 24 hr average is 11.5 hrsish. Daytime sleep 2hrs or just under.

I dont wish to do CIO but would like to figure out how to reduce these wakes to one a night as he can clearly do it!
